  • Not to beat a dead horse, but there's a student-made video for Wilco's "Hell is Chrome" that shows a less-literal, more creative way that these kids could have used to approach this video. Great song, though.

  • I love this song and I love this video.

  • I've uploaded a "videoless" album version of this song... youtubedotcom watch v qUh6ykthAzM

  • god awful

  • And it's filmed in Boston. WTF? If you are be this damn literal buy a couple tickets to Seattle.

  • Poor song.

  • It's the best New Balance commercial I've ever seen.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I hope you failed the course with this godawful piece of work,

way to ruin a great song

  • Well congratulations. You just completely ruined a great song. Awful.

  • Agreed with binarysolo2....this video is so horrible it totally ruins the song

  • sorry guys, this is pretty lame, but um who am i to judge.....well i guess i have eyes so i am a pretty good judge, that was rude, keep on keeping on.

  • Literal music videos are stupid.

  • Literal music videos are stupid.

  • this is worse than the Arkansas video, his songs are great, videos suck

  • blahahaahaha

  • this video is crap.

  • i love the song, this video is retarded

  • that girl is wearing terrible sunglasses

  • @neeelis yes, they are pretty embarrassing.

  • Does anyone notice that it was done for a non-linear film editing course?

    Non-Linear.

    Non.

    Linear.

  • @magoichi1415 -- Non-linear just means that the editing is done digitally and not necessarily frame by frame in order on a tape like used to be done in video production.

  • the lyrics it truly does’nt get any better

  • Music videos should be abstract, and not literal interpretations of the art that is the music. This literal interpretation of the song is very lacking of any creativity and does not showcase your film skills at all. Fail.

  • The song is amazing, but ya the video is not the best. No reason to rip it apart...the song makes up for it though. :)

  • the video is definitely too literal but cmon they were just trying to make something but they didn't do that well, theres no need to get so harsh with these comments ppl should stop completely demolishing them with these comments but all in all the song is amazing but the video could use a lot of work

  • Comment removed

  • This video is kids learning to be creative with technology, people. Cut them a break.

  • I was wondering why this masterpiece has so few hits, but after viewing this train wreck, I know why. If it was I was told up front this was a high school production my expectations might have matched the simplistic interpretation.

  • beautiful music

  • Im so sorry people from my school put this music video out... they butchered a great song

  • this video is pretty cheese ball... live and learn

  • LMAO @ 0:58....this is genius comedy.

  • I don't think Jurado would approve...

  • Amazing song. Horrible video. Just...horrible. It begs the question...why?

  • the video is terrible, but goddamn you all seem to be acting like you are too good and pretentious for a video to go along with a song. It doesn't take away from the song, if you hate the video so much don't watch it and just listen to the song. The dude did it because he wanted to, it sucks I agree but there is no reason to give him shit about it.

  • i agree. . way too literal!

  • this music video seems out of place and out of time. just poor.

  • The video is just screaming creativity.

    Not.

    Wonderful song, though.

  • Hell is watching this music video!!!!

  • this video is rubbish but the the song is sooo good

i am gonna try to master this on guitar and harmonica

  • prefer Cocorosie!

  • copy pasting cocorosie for thumbs down from you people...

    VIVA LA REVOLUCION

  • I remember discovering this guy on napster several years ago. This guy is extremely talented.

  • Such an amazing song that I think clearly went right over the head of Louis De Caprio and Max Touhey. That being said, it's just a class project. Still, considering how much I love the song, the video is just painful to watch.

  • @paternzen Yeah. It's one of those videos that ruins the majesticness of a song. This is a song that is too pure for video to go along with it.

  • wow this is horrible

  • This is a great song, by one of the greatest folk singer/songwriters out there today. For those of you who complain about the video, what do you expect? It is a literal song, what sort of video would you expect? Other than to actually dramatize the lonely mother and the child's kidnapping. It's about the music. everybody knows that "video killed the radio star."

  • nice video, i've listened to this song on repeat for years and i lived in Fenway with that view. I hope you got a good grade. Damn, people who post comments are rough. Be calm, fuckers.

  • ugh ya ruined the song!

  • Ya, dont over-think it jerks

  • overall, this is a pretty good video. I really enjoyed it.

  • I'm sure you guys flunk that summer course, and if you didn't, God help us, for the story tellers and film makers of our generation will suck so much ass...

  • awh I really liked this!

    well done!

  • listen to the song, music was not made for people to worry about how good or bad the "video" is. And i actually like the vid.

  • Why so negative? I loved it. Nothing wrong with literal interpretation not everything has to be concealed under layings of "meaning". Sometimes what is, just is. Thank you. Beautiful song, great video.

  • Dawn Hills that is a very intelligent perspective. Simplicity is often missed in

our complex way of thinking, as you mentioned

Simplicity is pure and that is a great way to see things.

  • The best words that I've ever read from the Youtube comment! Great!

  • This song breaks my heart, but this terrilbe video almost ruins it. I'm sorry but this should have never been made. Seriously unbearable.

  • If I wasn't so in love with this song, I'd hold my tongue. But I must say that this video is really really painful. It feels terribly contrived. To the students that worked on this project -- keep up the hard work but please don't sodomize such soulful music! For everyone who'd like to keep listening to this song on YouTube, I just bought the song and uploaded it w/ a simple album cover.

  • uhhhh, why so literal? i mean this just ruins any sort of image or imagination that may play off of the words of this great song... seriously, why did you bother? this is boring.

  • i agree, way too literal...

  • so corny

  • ...comon now, this video is lame . it takes all the cliches and sits in them. almost ruins the song.

  • so beautiful :~~

  • Good work. To reinforce what others have said about interpretation, my favorite part was at the end with the meeting of the shoes and flip-flops.

This is, not coincidentally, the only time you put the literal message of the lyrics aside and conveyed your own interpretation. The song doesn't have a happy ending, but your video does! So clearly if you can take artistic license there, you could also apply it elsewhere. Keep up the good work.

  • I must disagree to a point. It is an unhappy song, the girl missing her mother for so long and starting an uncertain journey to find her again, But, when you refer to the last clip, the "meeting of the shoes and flipflops," it looks to me that as he was finishing the writing of the song, she had returned to him.

  • huh. the above comments were my thoughts exactly. i like this video though-- a nice piece for a beautiful song.

but the shots of the fountain, for e.g., or the girl saying the lines word for word, etc-- too literal. rather than reproducing the song, interpret it.

    still... nice work.

  • not bad guys, one suggestion is to not be so literal in your representations of the lyrics, get creative with the visual elements, bring the viewer pictures they feel bring the something more than what the song already does. Just trying to help a lil for the future, but really its a very good effort, get even better towards the end!

  • nice sunglasses, nice video...good job!

  • This is pretty decent considering you guys are still in high school. Did you guys write the song as well.

    Very good effort.

  • @whizkid36 it's a Damien Jurado song... he's amazing

  • Where were the horses and parades in passing?? Hehe
