It was banned in the UK by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), because car makers are not allowed to use speed to promote their products. Although I love the concept of this ad, it doesn't work for me because both cars do not appear to be travelling especially fast in the first place. Look at how quickly the jetcar slows to a stop after deploying its parachute. At very high speeds the jetcar would take much longer to come to a halt...

I'm pretty sure this was banned because it was misleading. The ad clearly implied that it was faster than a... Rocket on wheels, which it can't be. It doesn't matter if it's common sense or not, it's still the equivilent off a cereal advert promising you eternal life.

Maybe it ran foul of some advertising rules in some states, where they discourage advertising vehicles by their top speed.

I don't think it is a misrepresentation of speed. I didn't see anything to suggest the BMW was doing 500mph. I would say it probably was going around the 150mph mark. great ad though.

The M5 was limited to 155mph, but could do 0-60 quicker than these 2 (4.9 secs). The RS6 was later released with the same top speed but 0-60 in 4.7 secs.
