You could upgrade the CPU but not the GPU. By the sound of your post I doubt you'll be able to even replace the CPU.

lol I got this notebook in around 2007 for 600$ us (it lacked a remote but had a dedicated 8400m gs). It worked fine for gaming on the go. Just a mouth ago i upgraded the cpu to a 2.4ghz dual core, the gpu to a 9600m gt(OC) and doubled the ram. In total it cost around 300$ for the upgrade and not it performs like a mid-rang/higher end gaming notebook.

i used my acer for 3 years everythings fine even i 24 hours on it since use it very hard on my project. but only 1 of my speaker spoil cause i hit it on the door when in rush. but the sound still ok with only 1 left speaker hehe. i think it depends ur luck . i think acer just same with the other laptop, cause it lcd still in samsung part and the hardisk some in toshiba and some in samsung.. soo.. wats the different? only design and company name i guess.

only up to 3hrs battery life? is that what you call portable? Now imagine after a year, the battery life will be i guess less than 1hr. Personally im not fulled by all the glamour, i mostly look at the battery life first then speed and others. It's a portable device so it has to have good battery life; min 6hrs.

The battery has only 3 hrs life, because is a 6 cell battery, my acer aspire gemstone has a 12 cell battery, and I can work for 7-8 hours surfing the web without plug-in the AC cord. And yes, it is portable!!
