@CONTRAHABS Halak and Elliott seem to really be meshing well together. The Blues organization (under new coaching) hasn't really claimed either as our official starter. They're both playing extremely well and sharing about equal play time right now. Both of them are playing incredibly well right now.

i'm from St. Louis, and if Halak had better D in front then i think he would have a good year, and we would of went a lot farther then where we got. so i think next year he should be a lot better since he knows what he has to do, and he's more comfortable in net.
@italstallion06 Blues fan here. We brought up Lars Eller from the minors for like 4 games and he scored 3 goals and then we sent him back to the minors. Not sure why we didn't give him more of a chance cause he was looking awesome. I hope hes doing good for you there in Montreal.

Its when u get to the playoffs when stuff starts to hit the fan & goalies are really put under the magnifier. Look at Luango Terrific goalie but come playoffs his game goes WAY off & looks terrible. Halak nearly takes Montreal to the finals & they trade him. That makes a lot of sense. If they think Carey Price will take them that far they are dreaming. Glad i'm not a Habs fan cause i'd be pretty pissed about trading Halak & putting all your hopes on Carey Price.

Coming from a Blues fan, I would have rather seen Price wear the note. Habs fans tend to forget that Price is an EXTREMELY talented goalie. He and Halak are 1 and 2 on my list of favorite goalies to watch. Habs fans will no doubt be impressed with Lars Eller too.

Halak is THE reason we got as far into the playoffs as we did. 2 years ago Price chocked. Last year he chocked. This year we finally get a goalie who has the right stuff and we trade him.

They signed up Plekanec for 5 Millions/year for 6 years (30 M). I say fuk Plekanec and sign up Halak. Try to send away Price with the K's brothers. That's what i would of done. I agree with you anyway... as long as i am goind for the rebuilding idea.. i would still invest on my goalie first.

@antshabs88 Halak did not only have a great year with us, but he brought his team far in Olympics. Also, he brought a sucky team far in the Stanley Cup series. We really sucked, he just saved us. I agree that price has more potential in theory, but while he proved he was weak between his ears, Halak proved us the exact opposite. In my humble opinion, both are and will be great goalies. Price wont survive Montreal, and will get traded in a near future (1-2 yrs), then he will get great.
I know us blues fans have been saying this for a loping time now, but I think we are really going to develop into a great team now that our youngsters have a few seasons under their belts . And not to mention we now have a world class goalie. Thank you Montreal, Lars eller won't let u down!!

@ggqbc The Capitals wouldn't have gone after him. Ovechkin is in his prime now, and they want a veteran goalie like Tim Thomas, or Vesa Toskala- someone with more of a track record than Halak.
This deal was purely about the money. Halak will probably sign a 4 year 20 million dollar deal, while Price will cost about half that. They need the cap space to resign Plekanec, or to bring in a bigger centerman to replace him.

Damn...people hating in here. Yeah, Halak carried the Habs and was a big part of the team but not the whole team. The offense was outstanding and if you DO look at the shots by the opponents, a lot were easy to see and from far away. Philly's an aggressive team that creates traffic and plays rough, and all of a sudden Halak wasn't as amazing. Still a fantastic goalie, but he didn't single-handedly carry them, they rely on each other.
I think Andy Strickland said it best: In acquiring a long term goalie, we gave up some great scoring potential. Lars Eller will not disappoint, neither will Schultz.
If any of u were REAL habs fans, u would at least give the team a chance. Ok maybe not the best move (feels like the Roy trade) but damn it, he's not the ONLY reason the habs got where they did last year. U remember Cammalleri, Plekanec, Gionta, Subban, Gill? Hello! Coming from a Blues fan, I would have rather seen Price wear the note. Habs fans tend to forget that Price is an EXTREMELY talented goalie. He and Halak are 1 and 2 on my list of favorite goalies to watch. Habs fans will no doubt be impressed with Lars Eller too.

His bad moves were giving thomas a 4 year extension at his age, & the Versteeg trade. Can't win every trade, but he's a solid GM.

Gauthier is Gainey's Padawan... and both are idiots. I don't have enough fingers on my hands to count the mistakes i seen for last 5 years. Since Roy left the team in '95, we had goalie issues. Finally we find a skilled goalie that can play under pressure, wich is needed to play in Montreal, and he send him away. Just so he could save money... wich he used to sign up Plekanec, who did nothing so great for last 5 years. So not a series player anyway. I will buy the Labatt when i am thirsty,fuk CH

@antshabs88 '86 and '93.. Montreal won the game with an average team and an excellent goalie (Roy). If you want to put your money somewhere, it's on the Golaie. They signed up Plekanec for 5 Millions/year for 6 years (30 M). I say fuk Plekanec and sign up Halak. Try to send away Price with the K's brothers. That's what i would of done. I agree with you anyway... as long as i am goind for the rebuilding idea.. i would still invest on my goalie first.

@antshabs88 Halak did not only have a great year with us, but he brought his team far in Olympics. Also, he brought a sucky team far in the Stanley Cup series. We really sucked, he just saved us. I agree that price has more potential in theory, but while he proved he was weak between his ears, Halak proved us the exact opposite. In my humble opinion, both are and will be great goalies. Price wont survive Montreal, and will get traded in a near future (1-2 yrs), then he will get great.

@ggqbc The Capitals wouldn't have gone after him. Ovechkin is in his prime now, and they want a veteran goalie like Tim Thomas, or Vesa Toskala- someone with more of a track record than Halak.
This deal was purely about the money. Halak will probably sign a 4 year 20 million dollar deal, while Price will cost about half that. They need the cap space to resign Plekanec, or to bring in a bigger centerman to replace him.

Damn...people hating in here. Yeah, Halak carried the Habs and was a big part of the team but not the whole team. The offense was outstanding and if you DO look at the shots by the opponents, a lot were easy to see and from far away. Philly's an aggressive team that creates traffic and plays rough, and all of a sudden Halak wasn't as amazing. Still a fantastic goalie, but he didn't single-handedly carry them, they rely on each other.
