Just started my tank a few months ago. Loving it however just a little obsessed with it.. :) I have mine on a counter in the kitchen but like the look of yours on a stand. The black has an updated look...most look so 80's. Im considering moving mine but a little nervous about it. :) Thanks for sharing...
could you possibly show a video of your refugium with algae, a how to etc.. I have the 14 and really am trying to do it the easy way without purchasing and drilling holes into a smaller tank... Nice setup
I hate when people tell you to test your water by throwing fish in there and seeing if they die. I think its inappropriate. Test your water daily for ammonia, nitrates and nitrites. The numbers will tell you when your tank has cycled.
Very good looking BioCube. I searched your video because I am inheriting a BioCube with a reef setup very similar to yours! Hopefully mine turns out as nice as yours!
is that the coralife, metalhalide ? if it is you need to get a piece of glass to fit inside the housing because the uv "protection" it comes with is horrible, you will burn and bleach corals left and right.
@ werunDP : You are a moron. That is not a Blue Tang. It is a Yellow Tailed Damsel and the tank was started with all live and pre cultured rock and sand equaling minimal cycle. Thanks for the input though.
Cool videos I made the jump today and picked up a bc hqi. I'm totaly new to reef keeping. Been doing freshwater for 20 years but got tired of it. Any updates on your system? I'll post some videos of mine when I get it up and running.
I was told and have always followed what my lfs told me about live rock. They said for a live rock based filtration unit the more the better. I was planning on 35 pounds in the 29 gallon bio cube and 15 in my sump. That is too much?? If so let me know asap. I just got my new tank acouple days ago and right now i'm building my sump for the tank. As of cycling the tank... My other reef tanks were already cycled before I got them so i'm new to cycling.
@Mapexdrumskyle The usual amount of live rock you should have is 1lb of live rock per gallon. So I'd say thats too much. Go to Reef Central.com, I'm absolutely positive they will answer all your questions! :D
I just got the same biocube you got and I was wondering if i could put my live sand and live rock in before it cycles. Right now the tank is empty and i am about to fill it with salt water. just wondering what you thought.. I dont wanna loose 50 pounds of live rock..
@Mapexdrumskyle : Dude you need to do a little research. Number 1 50lbs of live rock is to much for this size of tank. Number 2 when you "cycle" a tank you are not actually cycling the tank it self. You are cycling the rocks and sand and what ever else means of filtration you have. Number 3 if you already have the live rock and it has been out of saltwater for more than a few hours you are already losing the bacteria inside of it that makes it "live" and that is used for filtration.
@jhall651 50lbs is a perfect amount for a 29g.. you have no clue what your talking about.. 1.5-2lbs per gallon is right for a nice full reef tank. The guy in the video has 30lbs of live rock in his 29g and it looks skimpy.
Also when he says "cycle" i think he is referring to getting the parameters right. The wrong salinity or PH and you very likely could kill all the beneficial bacteria in your live rock.
Also, your use of quotation marks is curious at best..
Hey, I first want to say that your tank is beautiful and that Iv watched all your videos. I have a question that relates to a previous one. Did you say that your Biocube HQI did come with blue night time LEDs ? I am curious because you said that you had blue nocturnal LEDs. I just got a biocube HQI and disappointed that it dint have blue night time LEDs like the older models. Am I missing something or was it something you added on.
@ gt2k4srt4 : Little more that 2 months old dude. Try 7. That's not true any how. I have added and removed rocks left and right. Once your tank has been cycled you can add completely dead rock free of die off or pre-cultured live rock properly transferred and you will gave absolutely no parameter fluctuation. Thanks for that late and ill informed comment.
I like how you positioned the rock. Great job. My question is... if you take the glass off the top does it keep the water cooler? Old trick we used on older tanks. Seems to be the biggest complaint with this tank. Wonder if you tried it.
@suzlwilliams : I actually have removed the glass top. Although, it was not removed for cooling but to provide greater fresh air contact with the water surface in order to help raise Ph. Check out some of my other videos on this tank and I believe I cover this. Thanks for the comment.
@28gallonbowfront: You need to also be watching ammonia and nitrates. As per almost every hobbist you should wait until your tank is completely cycled before you add any live stock. The time it takes to fully cycle your tank will vary depending on lots of factors. I used real live sand and precultured live fiji rock so I only had a very small cycle and my tank was fully cycled after about 3 weeks. If you do want to add fish I would recommend no more than 2 inexpensive starter fish and see ho
@jhall651 i added a clownfish and a midas blenny and a couple of hermit crabs and they all seem to be doing great they have been in there for a couple of hours.
@jhall651 Ok I know this is a couple months old. But, the live rock will help the tank cycle. There is no need to add it afterwards. By doing so, you will cause the tank to cycle again.
i just bought a 28 gallon bowfront reef tank and i bough premixed saltwater, 30 pounds of live sand and 35 pounds of live rock. ive had it in there for a week and i checked the ph and it is at 8.2 and the nitrite is at 0 the salinity is at 1.023. should i start adding fish or wait?
Very Nice Tank! I have the original biocube 29 and i am looking to buy the HQI. You will be able to keep beautiful corals with that light if you decide to. Keep posting :)
Awesome start i just got this same tank yesterday it was pretty expensive but i have been told it is well worth it! I will subscibe to videos update me on everything i am thinking of starting mine in a few weeks or so....so tell me every detail of how yours is going thanks!!!
Its a good start. I have two older Biocubes and trust me for what you paid for this system, it is well worth the money and the HQI and overall design are alot better. So take care of it, keep posting updates and yea feel free to send me questions if you have any i would be glad to help.
