  • Memories....

  • 14 people are gay

  • December 30 tomorrow. HAPPY 64TH BIRTHDAY JEFF LYNNE TOMORROW!!!!! Enjoy your B/Day!!!!!

  • whenever I hear this Im straight back in 1983, better times

  • @Zephyesa

This song is actually from 1986.

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X I beg to differ, but Im pretty sure I head this first in 1983 on the radio

  • This is my favourite song of all time :)

  • magic best song they do

  • BUENISIMA , FELICIDADS AMIS.. DIOS LS BNDIGA ACOMPAÑADO DE UN MIL BNDICIONS.....

  • 13 persons aren't serious.

  • give me one reason how somebody could not like this wonderful piece of art?

  • Wonderful track

  • This song was slightly ahead of it's time. I always thought "So Serious" was a predecessor to the sound Jeff Lynne would find success with in late 80s with the Traveling Wilburys & their members' solo albums.

  • SWEET MELODY!! Definitely my favorite song off this album (Balance of Power).

  • Thumbs up if you watced this video like 20 times in a row.

  • Здорово^^

  • Why so serious?

  • Who's playing bass in this video?

  • @johnny10301968 Louis Clark,I believe...He is featured on the Inside sleeve of the original Lp.

  • So the big fiddles were seen, but not heard. By this time, there were only three remaining members of ELO. I can't say I care much for their 80s sound, but this was OK.

  • @way2muchsense I disagree , I think they did some fantastic stuff in the 80s . Love this song and Calling America, Secret messages... great stuff

  • ELO is one of lifelong music favorites of mine.Amazing quality and totally unique sound. That was a time when music was a music.

  • According to Bev Bevan, the band did their part of the video in Scotland. The other scenes were all done in the U.S. and in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area. The opening scene was done at a RR crossing on Old Griffin Road, just south of FTL International Airport. The swimming scene was done in Ft. Laud. at the Swimming Hall of Fame and the man and ghost woman scene was done on Miami"s Metro Rail.

  • @SVB2002 - right u r! I recognized the Tropical Acres restaurant...

  • SOUNDS LIKE JEFF LYNNE WAS TRYING TO DO A CARS STYLE SONG !! LOL

  • @ELOSHAZZY actually yeah you're right, it kinda does sound a bit like Ocasek might have been at the helm. Although it might just be the chord progression. This is the cliche'd "four chord song" otherwise known as the "sensitive female chord progression". That is, I - V - vii - IV. It's been done over and over. However, I LOVE this song. It actually has a bit of a Euro feel to it, it is not a very "American" or "British" sounding song. Although, you can still tell it's Jeff Lynne by drums/guitar.

  • ELO... Excellence Lives On!!!

  • Oh awesome...Sir Lou is playing cello!

  • @michaelmyatesaolcom fuck off back to children's videos with this bullshit

  • That's quite the cliff hanger. dose she get hit by the train?

  • @reconcapability It looks like she did but then she drives off at the end. So who knows what's going on.

  • i want to eat these drums nom nom nom

  • nagyon szeretem ezt az elo számot!!!

  • At some point you have to say that it's deliberate? Proper respect to Jeff & Company way past due, what a shame huh!?

  • @jeffcocks40 not a bad song. but you're right . all good things come to an end.

  • <3 ELO.. grew up listening to these guys.. such an underrated band :[

  • its sounds like the travelling wilburys

  • This is one of my favorite ELO songs. But this is one of the strangest music videos I have ever seen.

  • 11 People take it so serious.

  • Fantastic song. Never fails to get my mood up. Thanks.

  • Elo is great! I love the scream of 2:45... hahaha hilarious

  • who's the hitler youth at 1:30? :))

  • Gotta love that ELO!!!

  • good song.

  • I GOT TO HAVE MORE COW BELL!

  • Always hoped for a true ELO reunion, not the ELO II crap. Not going to happen now. RIP Kelly Groucut.

  • I remember dancing to this with my little sister when I was 5.

Now I'm 15 and I still do xD

  • To be clear, I'm not balming Jeff Lynne on anything - he's a pure musical genius the level really few of his contemporaries reach.

    bio

  • It was quite a shock to hear the way Jeff was talking about the last albums of the original ELO (if you missed it - he said the ELO was his project and he was responsible for everything and he got enough of it, but he had a contract that bound him for three more albums, "so I did it. ) For heaven's sake, we're talking about Secret Messages, Time and Balance of power!

Such a disappointment to learn they were not those full-hearted projects you always thought to be, huh?

  • @bioLarzen

Ya still can't argue the fact that even when forced, their accomplishments were second to none! You could prolly give Jeff Lynne a shovel, a garbage can and a ball of cotton and he would be able to compose a musical masterpiece out of it!

  • @technocrash09 Couldn't agree more. That's exactly why it was so shocking: those 3 albums did not sound the least like anything "soulless" as Jeff called them. For me, Secret Messages is the #1 ELO-album of all times, followed by Time and Discovery.

Seems like Jeff Lynne simply couldn't make a mistake - probably even if he actually wished to :)

ELO is one of those things that make me regret time is passing by... :) Wish they would have remained young(er) and together...

    bio

    bio

  • @bioLarzen I guess his point was probably something like "...well, people may still enjoy my music but I, myself, do not hear my own soul here." due to the circumstances. The thing I think strikes me most about him (Gilmour of Floyd the same) is his humbleness. Both of these artists have earned the right to be as arrogant as they could wish to be, yet remain classy and down-to-earth. They seem to respect their fan base more than alot of their fans do them in return.

  • @technocrash09 Well, I guess they are so big that they can afford the luxury of being humble - this won't make them any less brilliant...

    bio

  • @bioLarzen I agree.....absolutely! I am glad I grew up in the 60's all the way to today. I know I lived in the musical history ers that my great grand kids will study in college. Hell, my grand-daughter is doing a book report on John Lennon right now for 7th grade!!

  • @bioLarzen Even if they weren't he made them work till the very end. And says a lot for him then a band ready to roll over and die.

  • @bioLarzen It's never as black and white as the retelling. Besides, the thing about art is not where it comes from, but what you take from it.

  • every time the gun scares the crap out of me if i'm not paying attention

  • I remember in 1986 getting a stereo that had a cd player with it (yes, that was once a big thing) and this was the first cd I put in! Damn, E.L.O sure knew how to write music and perform! Jeff Lynne is a GENIUS! E.L.O HALL OF FAME NOW!!!

  • @obamaequalsoneterm

Dude! I was listening to ELO and the like when 8TRACK was a big thing! #LMAO

  • 1:23 THE BLUE MAN GROUP swim team!

  • Ys, that's George, But is that Bev Beven on drums?

  • @mrzeegrr That is NOT George Harrison, people!

  • Is that George Harrison on the Keyboard? Really looks like him. I know that have worked together on George's solo albums and in the Travelling Willbury's .

  • @BOOGE64 #LOL---------Not hardly

  • @BOOGE64 Richard Tandy is on keyboards.

  • @BOOGE64

Besides, even if it WAS george Harrison, which it is not, he wouldn't be playing keyboads anyways. He would be on a guitar somewhere.

  • PUT ELO IN THE ROCK HALL OF FAME!

  • @johnhamilton08 Amen brother! Those aging, bitter, baby booming hippies would never do that, makes too much sense!? RUSH should be in their as well? Screw the R&RHOF, the REAL fans know who the best of the best is and ELO is definitely one of them!

  • @johnhamilton08 Amen brother, RUSH should be there as well!? Screw those aging, bitter, baby booming hippies! The real fans know who the best of the best are and ELO is definitely one of them!

  • @obamaequalsoneterm I am dumbfounded that they just keep forgetting them.

  • I just adore this !

  • Just get the hell out of the car bitch!

  • 0:39.... what happened??? Jeff Lynne shooing a fly?

  • Perfekt!! :o)

  • More Cow bell!

  • IMO, any song with Jeff Lynne in it is awesome.

  • As the late and great Heath Ledger put it so eloquently in the Dark Knight, "Why So Serious?"

Well ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls......HERE YOU HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!

  • Lastima que ya no se haga musica como esta

  • This is such a good song, how have I never heard it before?!

  • ELO FOREVER:.MUSIC...FEELINGS...GREATEST MOMENTS ...BEING ALIVE...

  • Comment removed

  • @MrPetergreen00 its i tried to find the key but it dont fit . you nob

  • ELO the best band in the world nothing else to say.

  • @crisp2882

Absolutly, talking in terms of english song music.

  • Probably the best song on Balance of Power. Calling America was ok, but seemed too mechanical. The video footage without the band was shot down here in So. Fla. That train crossing is across the street from one of my favorite bars---Dockers, just south of FTL intl. airport. The swimming was done at the Hall of Fame pool on Ft, Laud. beach, and the other part with the girl and guy was filmed on the Metro Mover in Miami.

  • Woah, who are the strangers on cello and bass?

I love this song, but the video makes absolutely no sense (oh duh, it was the 80s. Videos NEVER made sense).

  • I think one of them is Louis Clark, who used to arrange the strings. The other one I'm not sure of his name, but I think he played guitar on stage with ELO during their '86 gigs

  • why did everything turn to shit after "time"? did kelly grocutt make that much difference? I really don't rate his singing.

  • ELO's music is like a cold breeze that blows by the back of ones neck unexpectedly making the hair stand up.

Authentic, iconic, phenomenal, timeless, genius, and leaves an indelible impression!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ermayo93

    well said

  • The song sounds a lot like "electric dreams", is that not from the same era as this

    song?

  • @boinkboink1968 actually, Jeff Lynne did a few songs for the soundtrack of electric dreams, though as you probably know, not the main theme. But both artists have similar music at this time, that being the reason why both were chosen to contribute to the soundtrack..

  • I was 10 the first time I saw ELO on television. What I could tell at the time was the sound. It was all their own. Thanks to Jeff Lynne and ELO for lots of good times

  • Absolute genius as usual coming from the brilliant musical mind of Jeff Lynne....

  • @ermayo93 u have gorgeous vocabulary

  • @LeoVinceR1

    Thank you! :)

  • this song totally played a huge part in my life during a difficult time

  • My gosh, I so love ELO. I wish to god I grew up with them. Late bloomer. =) To be more precise, I cringe to say it, but Xanadu was my first encounter with one of the greatest artiest of the 70's & 80's.

Hey, at least I rediscovered them now. Truly amazing musicians.

  • me too! they are amazing

  • WHY SO SERIOUS?!

  • i <3 Jeff Lynne!!! : )

  • good arrangements, this is one of my favorite band

    Attila

  • great, great, great

  • It,s not GREAT song,but very good!

Люблю эту группу и то время.Спаибо Линну! В 1982 "TIME" был у всех,у кого был магнитофон.

  • 02:47...all that huff over nothing!!!!! LOL

  • awesome is all i can say.elo british rock and roll gods.

  • I love this song... I think it's just the feeling and/or because it is an original ELO album with original members. Never stop rockin' the light of the orchestra!

  • Very great song! Thanks a lot for sharing it!

  • Great beat, great vocals, great tune! Had my head bobbing endlessly.

  • It sounds like a definite precursor to the Traveling Wilbury's

  • Balance of Power is the Blueprint for Cloud Nine, Full Moon Fever, Wilburys and the new tracks for the Beatles Anthology

  • This is bland twee and over processed in comparison to their, far better, earlier work up to 1977.

  • dont be a snob! great song is a great song, even if it isnt in your favourite style

  • @MikePaulShoemaker - snobbery has bugger all to do with it. I stand by the remarks I made earlier. It's an opinion, a very considered one too. You think it's a great song. Fine. I don't. Not even remotely close to great. Style has very little to do with it. You want a truely great ELO song - `Wild West Hero'.

  • I agree 100000% with you. Wild West Hero is a masterpiece. This song... I like, I think it's nice. Not much more than that. Long live Electric Light Orchestra's 73-77 period. TRULY INCREDIBLE. In every way, it's amazing music.

  • "Balance of Power" was the blueprint for "Cloud Nine" and "Full Moon Fever" Classic rock that was modernized for the 80's.

  • Jeff needs to come out of hiding and right Adam Lambert a song...

  • Very great hit! Jeff Lyne is truly a god!

  • im hella high

  • this is good music, not that crap on the top 20.

can i ask one question? what happened to good music and people having fun playing it?

  • money and fame

  • Phenomenal songwriter!

  • Man put this song on on a bad day, sure solves it.

  • i know. is it to serious?

  • Anyone know of a biography of Jeff Lynne/and/or ELO?

  • bev bevan writ a book in 1980,the electric light orchestra story, published by mushroom publishing,it's a great book, but very hard to find now, hope this is some use to you, keep listening to the music.

  • Thanks! Wow, I'm shocked there have been no more books on not only the group but on Jeff Lynne himself, such an influential musician and producer! You bet I"ll continue listening! Thanks again!

  • Great song, begining of the end for them. Balance Of Power is a very bittersweet album

  • ELO forewer! One of my favorite.

    Hello from Russia

  • This is a wonderful song

  • ОБАЛДЕННО!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Не то слово!

  • great song, i think this was thier best album

  • agreed

  • Elo Elo zioom ^^

  • This band is just AMAZING.

  • Anyone know who the bassist is? That's not Kelly is it?

  • Martin Smith is the bassist. Kelly and Jeff had already had their falling out by this time. I don't think Smith actually played the bass on the recordings, but does appear in this video and was the touring bassist on the few shows they did play.

  • great song...never go wrong with elo

  • Just wish Jeff would team up with my other fav band of the time Y&T awho are still touring to rave reviews and gett down to some heavy rock again

  • Everything sucks at this days, specialy music, I miss the 70's music

  • You realize that this is an 80s song, right? Also, "I miss 70s music" makes no sense. You can listen to it all now.

  • My dad teached me to listen to this when i was a little girl :):) Love theeem :D <3<3

  • ELO is one of the most UNDERrated groups ever. I even liked the 'last' album BALANCE OF POWER (Jeff Lynne's last):

It had "Calling America", this song, "Getting to the Point" . ELO and Lynne = GENIUS!!

  • Jeff Lynn did an album as ELO in 2001, named Zoom. However, ELO was ex-Beatles this time, rather than his old band.

  • @yaywhewclips242 agreed

  • @yaywhewclips242 zoom was elo's last album

  • @yaywhewclips242 - Did you not hear ZOOM, which is almost entirely Jeff Lynne...totally different from the ELO II 'fiasco'.

  • @yaywhewclips242 I just heard Calling America for the first time last week. You're right ... they are one of the most underrated groups ever. Their music is absolutely gorgeous and uplifting ... I could listen to them all day.

  • @yaywhewclips242 I agree. That is when I was in college. Yikes.

  • @yaywhewclips242 Rolling Stone magazine perpetrated so much lasting damage on the reputation of REALLY GOOD bands (like ELO, Queen and many others) with their BULLSHIT album reviews in the late '70s and '80s. Rolling Stone is now an irrelevant joke while all these talented bands have had the last laugh. I think ELO is due for a rediscovery.

  • @yaywhewclips242 check out Zoom :)

  • If being a nerd means got good taste for good music, I´m more nerd than Robert Carradine and Anthony Edwards are!!!!(people who got my age and see "Revenge of the Nerds" movie knows what I mean)

  • dont worry ur not a nerd! lol i love elo! i have almost every song by them and all of the videos i can find!

  • I'm probably a big nerd for hitting the refresh button so I can keep replaying this song, but it's a good little tune.

  • I've had a really shitty week and ELOs music just makes me feel so much better

  • Very Travelling Wilburys in style

  • Your comment tells about your knowledge of nothing

  • If you like Italo disco music, you should check out Cloetta Paris' cover of this song. Cheers!

  • It is true that ELO was not successful in the UK. There are other groups who've left the UK to become popular elsewhere: Platinum Blonde and Gowan both left the UK to make it in Canada.

  • elo were one of the biggest sellers in the uk from 76 till 83, and still big, their singles and albums sold millions

  • I agree with RadaMcLaren32C. No E.L.O. no Depeche Mode, etc. As for the rest Jeff Lynne himself said all they wanted to do was make good music--and that's what they did.

    Thanks for posting, HellRhythm.

    R.I.P. Kelly Groucutt.

  • They started the age of 80s Music 3 years before anyone else even thought about it!

  • Awesome !!!

  • and how i cant love ELO?

  • One of their best songs.

  • best songs of the 80's.
