  • Love the music playing just as Sandy's solo ends.

  • 3:54 hand goes in mouth

  • HIIIIIIISSSSSSSS

  • Only the Henson factory can make a snake look cute!

  • Ever seen the Jungle Book or Robin Hood by Disney? Kaa and Sir Hiss showed feelings most definitely.

  • ernies mouth can fit his whole hand!

  • Yes, I saw Ernie putting his whole hand in his mouth at 3:54. I wonder why he was so scared of Sandy The Snake at this spot because in the beginning of the skit he said "Oh, there's my friend Sandy The Snake." If Sandy was a friend of his, I'm not sure why he was so scared at the end. I'm sure if Ernie and Sandy were developing friendship with each other, Ernie should've known what kind of snake Sandy is.

  • I,m surprised Ernie mentioned "gnash your teeth" when he has no teeth as well. In real life snakes do have teeth but they still can,t gnash them.

  • LOL i can totally see the Nicky (from Avenue Q) in Ernie. The nasal voice, the unintentionally insensitive words XD

  • Wow, Ernie's an insensitive asshole :D

  • Wow...that was stupid. Ernie knew, and then didn't know he was talking to a snake?

  • No...he didn't know he was talking to a RATTLEsnake!

  • Yes that's true that Ernie didn't know Sandy was a rattlesnake but, I wonder why he was so scared at the end because in the beginning of the skit, Ernie said, "Oh, there's my friend Sandy The Snake." If Sandy was a friend of his, I wonder why he would be afraid. Also, I'm sure Sandy wasn't going to bite him. Sandy was probably just showing Ernie what he does when he gets angry, and when Sandy said "I guess I showed him", he must've meant, "Ernie must've understood how I was feeling."

  • Is it just me or does the snake sorta sound like Dudley Moore?

  • It,s just you.

  • It may not seem 2 be educational to adults since we r so used 2 this, but actually in my class on how 2 teach preschoolers, one of the things is teaching them how to recognize expression. and i guess it teaches us not 2 play w/ rattle snakes either.

  • Ernie did say "Sandy" in this clip, but "Sammy" is actually a different snake altogether. For starters, Sammy is green, not yellow.

  • He definitely said Sandy. Maybe they later changed its name, or perhaps Ernie messed up, but it's DEFINITELY Sandy! This was such a cute show. :)

  • Now I haven't the slightest idea why I used to like this skit as a kid.

  • is it just more or would it have been better at the end of this skit if the snake would have done a laugh like ernie lol

  • I don,t think Jerry Nelson would do as good as Jim Henson.

  • I guess this teaches us that animals have differnt ways to show feelings then people do.

  • I always liked this bit too...better than Sammy!!

I liked that they included Ernie and taught emotions with a funny twist at the end, great stuff.

  • What a bad snake he does.

  • wow jerry nelson performs two different sammy the snake characters on sesame street it appears, this one, and the one that has a sister name sue, who looks and sounds like the letter S!

  • His name is Sandy here. Lisen carefully to what Ernie says to him.

  • I think that it's actually Sammy.

  • Nope it,s Sandy. I cracked up the volume on my computer as loud as I could and I still hear Ernie call him Sandy. If you don,t think I am telling the truth crack up the volume on your computer and keep your ears open wide.

  • Oh sorry, I believe you though : )

  • That,s okay. I even started doubting it myself. But I turned up the volume and yes the name is Sandy alright.

  • Comment removed

  • I wish they had used that rattlesnake Sandy more. What a cool puppet, and Jerry Nelson's performance is perfect.

  • Yeah. Jerry Nelson's good at voicing snakes!

  • Aw! Sammy is cute! I love his voice. I like the way Ernie's song changes everytime he sings it to another emotion.

  • Does Stone Cold Steve Austin know he left a buddy of his behind on Sesame Street to torment Ernie?

  • I wonder if Jake Roberts' pals Damien and Lucifer hang out there, also.

  • Don't know about that, but I'm sure his cobra, the one that took that chunk out of Macho Man Randy Savage's arm, is related to the snake in this clip.

  • Cobras don,t have rattles.

  • Don't you mean (the late) Steve IRWIN?

  • Nope, I meant Stone Cold Steve AUSTIN, who was nicknamed "The Texas Rattlesnake", among other things.

  • Well wasn't a weird thing to assume. I mean Irwin was the one with the 'most venomoos snoiks in da woold.' which where gorgeous.

  • When I was little, I liked this skit very much. It was a lot of fun doing what Ernie did. I also liked Sammy, too. At first, I thought he was a harmless garden snake, but then at the end, I ran away screaming just like Ernie to find out that Sammy was a venomous rattlesnake!

  • Harmless snakes don,t have fangs.

  • That's true that Sandy was a venomous snake but, I'm sure he probably wouldn't of hurt Ernie. Sandy was just frustrated that he didn't have all the body parts that Ernie had, and he couldn't show his feelings like Ernie did. Sandy was just showing Ernie how snakes show feelings, and he was just happy at the end because he showed his feelings perfectly and clearly. Probably, if Sandy was going to hurt Ernie, he probably would've hurt him as soon as Ernie walked up to him.
