  • oh, the good ol' days of irish dance when the girls looked like themselves and the dresses weighed 30 pounds

this is how i was introduced to irish dance, when it was more graceful and the dresses looked like, well that and then i started dance lessons 8 years later and its changed so much

  • it may be that i started dancing just about 2 years ago, but i really prefer the fast steps and huge jumps to the more slow graceful dancing of yesterday

  • OMG! Irish dance was so different back then :) There were no fancy dresses or sparkles or false tan or wigs ! x I would have hated to dance back then x I much prefer it now with shorter dresses and diamontes :D Also the steps are so simple ! Its like primary now ! x Woah :) Still they're good dancers x x x

  • The girl at 0:29 is my favorite steps :D

  • the girl at 0:22 steps are beautiful. i wish my steps were like that. i hate how these days its all hard and fast when it was so beautiful back then

  • i just think it looked ace back then :)

  • Wow Aoife is amazing!

Her dance looks more advancied than the others, and I think she deservied to win!

So all you irishdancing haters, why do watch it if you hate it thats what I don't understand!

    Congratulations Aoife!

  • Aoife's power is just phenomenal. It's no wonder she won so much.

  • I wasn't even born then ... wow :D

  • Who are the accordionist/pianist?

  • This is great! I just started dancing as an adult, but this would have been my age group the year it was taped. It's really interesting to see how different things are now and what it would have been like if I danced growing up.

  • I like todays dress' much much more, we have come so far

  • these r really talented people for their age

  • haha! at :21 you can see the next competitor practicing behind the stage :)

  • the last girl was outof time that whole section of her dance

  • these girls need to smile!!!

  • they are all brilliant dancers

  • Aoife Curley missed her click and she still won????? Nowadays that would have lost her a good few marks...

  • Who knows, maybe she did lose points for the click but made up for it by getting more points for something else?

  • Definitely. But you can see that her steps are more intricate than the other girl's steps, and she does her's well. That probably made up for that one click.

  • I suppose, but I preferred the girl at 0:22, and the very last girl to dance. Thats not to say that Aoife is a stunning dancer, too.

  • Im sure she still lost the few points for missing the click, but im sure she was many points ahead from the second place winner that those few points didnt bring her overall mark down. she did not have a perfect score.

  • i think the reason y she still one is because they dont look for clicks at that age. i think ur right about being marked of but not in this age group

  • @Bookwormclodee And dancers of today fly around the stage with their arms out like airplane wings, and dip, duck and strain with every jump. I'd choose carriage over footwork everyday, that is what makes Irish dancing different.

  • @zspinks78 Completely agree!!! I can't stand it when people have bad posture, I think it ruins the dance.

  • @zspinks78 in an comhdhail you still fly around the stage because steps from comisiun and comhdhail are practitcally the same, but you would lose a heck of amount of marks for carriage in an comhdhail ! :D

  • No, I don't think so... but i think, all of this are hornpipe's.

Which of this girs won that? Is it the girl on 0:30 ??

  • do they all have to do the same set?!?

  • Wow the styles have changed......good job to all of the girls!

  • this seems like so long ago!! i remember dancing on that stage wen i was only their age :) xxx

  • Those dresses are beautiful! But they look like they weigh about a million and a half pounds :(

  • They were really heavy! Made from thick velevt and heavily embroided. But i still really them.

  • lol I know :) I tried one on around 4 years ago that had a fraction of the embroidery and it was still really hard to dance in.

  • I loved the girl at 0:22

  • wow! the dresses! and no spray tans! all of these little girls are so good!

  • wow havent the times changed

  • go Aofie!

  • they r like amazing my friend is going to worlds this year in ireland

  • worlds 09 is in philadelphia pa

  • maybe you mean the All Irelands ..

she could be going to both though

  • ye the worlds are in philadelphia!

  • I like number 33

  • i loved number 22!

  • number 55 is brillant!

  • thats so true fiesgirl comp. in the northwest is stiff

  • I can't belieeeeve some people have the nerve to criticise these girls, there's a reason they got to worlds!!

  • They were good dancers at the time this was made, but now Irish dance has evolved a lot and, though they were amazing at the time, they may not be up to the standard now

  • Looking at these girls their steps do seem basic to what is done now BUT, looking at dancers today, ALOT i see lose the basic by trying to hard with the new steps. The amount of girls i see 'dipping' when they jump, and arms flying out behind them like aeorplanes. The girls in this video, were doing Open material as it was then, but i think they beat girls nowdays hands down with the basics.

  • what year was this? anyone know??

  • i think it was 1993 or 1994

  • it was 1994

  • how good are they :O been dancing longer than they had been alive then and they would beat me without tryin lol

  • i no!! im 13 and im only in prizewinner. i feel so jealous

  • is it alright to be jealous of a bunch of 9-11 year olds?? I'm fifteen, they are amazing!

  • i am jelous. i'm open (preliminary champ to you americans) and intermediate (prizewinner) and no where near champ.

  • hehe I'm in Novice/ Prizewinner :)

  • great job #22 and i do irish dancin too but im not as good as #22 im only in prizewinner =l bt great job!!

  • i think the first dancer shouldve won, she had her feet turned out most of the time and was up on her toes. Most of these dancers are flat footed while they dance and it doesnt look so great, it looks sloppy.

  • whats that music in the background at the end when aoife is on the podium with the trophy? ive heard it before in feet of flames 'celtic fire' and i really like it but i want to know what its called and if theres a cd with it on. thanks!

  • absolutly fantastic ! well done i do irish dancing lol .. i not quite as good as you tho lol !!

  • aoife is number 22, i think.how the hell is she so good? practice, probs but still... wow!

  • is she still dancing (nowadays i mean) ? she must be around 24 years old..

  • Aoife danced her last worlds in 2003 which she won U-21 and retired after that. She won the worlds 6 times in 93, 94, 95,97,02 and 03

  • She's amazing.

Did she stop dancing completely, or did she get her TCRG, or join a show... or ?

  • how are we supposed to know the 25th world irish dance championship was taken in the ninties?

  • The first girl who's dancing has some pretty good rhythm...but then again they all do.

  • is that seriously what qualifies for world's now a days? wow different

  • this was in 1994

  • sry my bad. but it still looks really metocher-well not even

  • This time I've got to disagree with you. While we can sit here and point out things they needed to improve, they're still all brilliant dancers and these videos are very inspiring to me.

  • sure but have u seen recent world champions. fine there all right but seriously, weve added on to that stuff. and excuse me for being a critic- but thats just the way i am.

  • Hey- I understand your point, and I respect it, too. And yes, I have seen recent world champions. I wasn't trying to start an argument, I was merely disagreeing with you. ;) That's allowed.

  • thanx 4 understanding. and super sry if i sounded really horrible. i waas in a bitchy mood that day.

  • wait. nevermind my last comment.

    xD

    I understand what your saying.

Imagine if Prelims and Open dancers NOWADAYS went and competed against them.

    xD

  • Really?

  • No... that was in the ninetees I believe. Read the freaking title.

    25th World Championships.

    xD

  • irish dance has changed alot over the years

  • The second girlon her hop 2 3's. her leg needs to be strater

  • well, # 22 won!

  • oh the gir that is number 22 is at 00:28

  • i think the girl number 22 is good!

  • The girl at 00:37 is pretty good

  • what year was this?

  • Beautifully done!

  • This is my set! haha go blackthorn stick!

  • great dancing and video.

dancing at the worlds is a lot harder today :( lol xxx

  • Wow! aoife curleys rythm is amazing and everybody else is fantastic too! :)

    excellent video xx

  • Aoife Curley is in Olive Hurley's videos. Is Olive Hurley's maiden name Burns??

  • no its not. they are two completely different people

  • The judge at 1.00 is Anthony Costello. He used to be one of my dancing teachers!

  • haha i thought so! he is coming to my school in august to do a workshop and bring new steps. im so excited he seems like a great teacher.
