It's crazy how over here in Lake Jackson, Texas, the newly built highways are always getting lots of oak trees planted right next to them. If you know anything about oak trees they grow really big and have enormous roots that ripple underneath house floors... So why would the government plant so many of those dangerous trees next to newly built highways? I personally think of it as way for the government to waste taxpayers money when the trees grow big enough to destroy the highway.

@bluedr34m In Houston, near Herman Park and the Medical Center, live oaks were planted around some of the main roads and I have always been grateful for all that shade. It looks to me that the live oaks have not destroyed the roads, but I do see your point. Texas is windy and a Texas highway needs a good wind block too.

@CelticSouthland The problem is that they planted so many right next each other (only maybe three feet away) on the incline side of highways. Oaks are such a big type of tree and with many of them next together, they can crack the concrete with their huge roots causing the highways to be reconstructed all the time.
