Actually, they're quite similar now that I think about it. Both wanted a continental war, both are evil and crazy. Both have/recognize the power you can attain from dragons.
Uhm, Ashnard actually succeeds in Enslaving a Black Dragon. Nergal might have succeeded in doing that, but Nergal needed what, like 800 years of arcane magical arts? Ashnard just needed to be a crazy berserk warmongering awesome dude, but I do get what you're saying, and I do love fighting Nergal as well.
That isn't true. If you play FE6, the "Manakete" or dragon people or whatever that you face are easy as heck. Roy 2 shots them. Then there's the Idoun, as a final boss, with 80 HP, who can also be 2 shotted by Roy. In PoR, dragons give most of your strongest units trouble, even Ike(who is much stronger than Roy). In FE7, the final boss is an extraordanarily strong Dragon, because it was enhanced with Nergal's dying magic but even then, its difficulty is about the same as Ashnard's.
Nergal's magic was on it before it was hit with anything, and it lived through the ice because of it. Also the magic stayed on it, or didn't you noticed the enhanced stats that it possessed? Notably the +20 to Def and Res. The manakete in FE6 have lower HP on average than a dragon from Tellius on average, and lower just about everything else too.
Ok, I'll give you that, but even then, the dragons in Elibe need a rock to have any sort of power whatsoever. Then the power seems to vary depending on your rock. Dragons in Tellius transform almost at will, and with 1 pack of Olivi Grass can stay transformed indefinitely.
@SirVyre - yeah if you didn't notice, the dragons in tellius tend to go about 20 lvls higher than in elibe or magvel.... realistically a level 20 manakete is pretty much un-damageable without special damage....
@Celestialuminescence If you're gonna use FE10 dragons then surely you noticed that they attack from 2 squares away. They also get special skills at level 30, Ire, which is a critical hit that activates the % of times = to the skill of the user. A level 40 tellius dragon can kill just about anything.
@omega197 Ashnard attacks from 1-2 range and actually moves in Hard mode, and none of your units can hurt him except for Ike or the Laguz general that you can call in. He also regenerates 10% of his HP every turn. With 60atk he can two shot any unit, same as the dragon. If it weren't for the battle skills that you can equip on Ike then I'd rate him as being much more difficult than that dragon, but with skills you can kill him in one attack if you're lucky, so I rate him as being even.
at least the new final boss must use an ambush strategy (whanever the ally/lord reach the boss's territory, 8-10 enemies from the back and the boss move back. That way, the boss will be harder. like Fe10's final boss)
When Ike said: "Retreat!" I thought: "What do you think I'm doing?! I'm waiting for Tibarn!" I actually didn't need Tibarn. Ike finished him off with Aether...
lol have you even played it, if you have you would have known that you get resolve the chapter where you have to fight the black knght so you only get to use the combo after that chapter and theres only 2
how do skills kill the game? say your using Mia and your low on hp and a halberdier with low health is attacking you,if vantage activates you wont have to worry, and that is exactly why there are skills beacause your always outnumbered and the help you win
I really don't see why you are complaining? In Fire Emblem, everything is a strategic factor. Skills are just another factor. Some of your enemies have them as well, mostly bosses. This presses you to think harder, adding more stratgey to a strategy game. So, if you don't like thinking, I suggest you play something simple...like Gears of War or something. But don't whine about skills, especially Resolve+Wrath.
P.S: Have you PLAYED that game on difficult. You need Resolve+Wrath.

Not entirely. He didn't want to wipe out all beorc or laguz. He could care less, he just wanted power and to rise to the top. He wanted to rule Tellius with an iron fist, the 'Dark God' at his side. He doesn't care spit for the dragons other than for their power as feral ones.
He is insane, I'll give you that much, but he doesn't want to kill ALL humans, just weak ones. He's a classic villain, with a sadistic twist. Thats why he's the best FE final boss since Zephiel. BTW, they actually look pretty similar too
I got lucky tough. Hes left side henchmen (i came from the right side) attacked Ike and Ike then used aether and healed himself to max hp. Then it was my turn and to my suprise Ike used aether on Ashnard (he had about 20 hp left) and down he goes :)

oh fuck...this guy was insanely hard...i mean i'm like "Yes i kill him." then he used the Fire Emblem and i'm like "Cheater!!!" um it took me 10 tries but i beat him by simply using that item that heals me maximum...
that is so annoying becouse i wanted to play this game out on hard mode but i didnt train ike (you cant get Tibarn, Naesala, Giffca )so i can start a whole new save

Path of Radiance was such a great game; though graphics were terrible, it had a stunningly complex storyline and depth in characters and plot.
This, Radiant Dawn, Sealed Sword, and Rekka no Ken. My ultimate favorites.

This is a bit old, but Elibe dragons are much more powerful than Telius ones, so it's kinda a moot point.

The difference between your examples and mine is that Roy has a super effective sword against the manaketes and Idoun, while Ike doesn't.

Forgot to mention, but the dragon in FE7 got hammered by Ninian's ice magic, so that should have canceled Nergal's magic.

Myrrh from Fire emblem: Sacred Stones also recieved stat boosts when using a Dragonstone. Flametongue provides those boosts.

I don't like the newer Fire emblems games (That's why I only played through PoR four times and thorugh RD only 2 times)
But beserk Ashnard definatly was one of the harder bosses in Fe series.
