@SuicidalXboxers Yup, it was the second time I ever handled him. I didn't know how to pick him up correctly at the time either, So I was a little nervous doing it one handed while holding a camera.
@SuicidalXboxers Don't worry, I'm not scared at all. This video is almost 4 years old, and since then I've owned many different scorpions. Right now I have an Asian forest scorpion which are the largest living scorpions in the world. I know how to properly handle them and they rarely ever attempt to sting me unless they are pissed off. It's not that hard to avoid getting stung either. I can tell they try stinging when there is a drop of venom hanging off their telson.
@alexmortillaro oh fair doo's haha ive had mine for a while now and she has settled down alot just wondering how often does your eat because i put food in but she never realy eats it :/
@SuicidalXboxers My Asian forest scorpion doesn't eat very much. He's not as active either during these colder months of the year. I'd say he maybe eats two large crickets a month even though I have one in his set up all the time.
@alexmortillaro hmmm okay thanks i guess mine might be the same then cos she eats bout one or two a month so that might be why anyway thanks for your help
@alexmortillaro yeh you right, all these care sheets say different things and they be fucking with me lol, i do need a heat pad tho ima go get one but yeh man i appreciate it dude foreal
@alexmortillaro and another thing, the only thing i dont like about mealworms is if he dont eat em right away like hes doin, the mealworm starts to burrow and shit so then im thinken that he wont be able to find it, cuz i damn sure aint bouta sit there for hours diggen the worm up for him u know? idk man this my first scorpion and i need help lol i done got attatched to sammy the scorpion lol
I can't tell you about what to do with meal worms. personally, I would never have them in my house. I've only feed my scorpions crickets and sometimes spiders I find in the house. remember that some scorpions can go almost a year without food! you really don't need to be so concerned about feeding them all the time. a cricket a day is more than enough regardless of what care sheets claim. this is one of the reasons I've decided to keep them as pets, they are so easy to care for.
@alexmortillaro then i would cut if off at night, but now im just cutten it on for a couple hours here then a couple hours there then off at night, hes healthy and chills in my hand and everything but its really frustrating to not be able to watch him kill lol thats like the best part
@alexmortillaro id say hes bout 2 and a half inches long, ive watched eat a pin head cricket thats wat i started him out on, now im tryna give him meal worms to switch it up a bit, im currently using a heat lamp its the ones that dont emit light just heat, i know the pads are better but i dont reallly know how i should go about giving him eat with the heat lamp for now, should i keep it off at night and just turn it on for a few hours during the day? at first i kept it on all day
You don't need to keep the lamp on all day. as long is it is at least room temperature, you should be fine around 70-72 degrees. they are most active when there is very little light anyways. You have to be patient for now. when he grows older they will gain more confidence and eat during the day more often if they are hungry enough.
@alexmortillaro hell yeh, im still haven trouble with mine tho hes a baby, ive only seen him eat once, ive got everything perfect for him he runs around i pick him up but hes a pussy man, ill put a mealworm or cricket in front of him and he runs away like a bitch lol i thought they would atleast be territorial
Well, if he's still a baby, you can probably wait to feed him for a while. he's probably running away because he likely can't defend himself just yet and his exo skeleton is still pretty soft and underdeveloped. give it time. I'd suggest getting small pin head crickets too. how long is his body including his tail?
Yeah, they are pretty similar in shape and appearance. Emperors are a little larger and mostly gloss black. My giant Asian forest scorpion looks closer to what my emperor use to look like except it's not in the pandinus family (Heterometrus spinifer) they are larger and their claws have a smoother texture.
I always wondered how the scorpion doesn't just fuck his shit up, with anyone really who owns exotic things like that. I mean.. does it just not sense you as a threat or something? Or does it just not care?
@alexmortillaro I see.. That's pretty neat. Thanks for the response! I had no idea that scorpions [and even spiders] related to things like that. I always figured they did their own thing and everyone else can just fuck off. lol.
Do you have a pet supplies plus anywhere around you? that's where I bought both of my scorpions. if not, grab a phone book and make some calls to see if anyone carries them around you.
I would imagine the same place you bought your emperors. they can also be bought online, but shipping won't be cheap. you could probably get away with housing them in the same cage as long as they are around the same size.
@AyuHamasakiFan1 In general, scorpions are not deadly to humans. Anyone who does die from one is a person who would die from bee stings, wasps, and so on. I have a bark scorpion which is said to be deadly, but it's not. It is the most venomous in America, but it's not deadly like some sources make it out to be. I have actually handled him, but I don't handle him too much, I don't want to stress him out.
@AyuHamasakiFan1 The Red Claw scorpion is almost identical to the Emperor scorpion. The only difference is the colour. You can tell how toxic a scorpion is by the size of its claws (or pinchers for some). Smaller the claws, more potent the venom is. Larger the claw, weaker the venom is. Both Emperor and Red Claw scorpions prefer to use their massive claws for protection. BUT, be warned that the Red Claw scorpion uses its stinger more often than the Emperor.
what do you mean better? they are different scorpions, I can't really tell you what one is better. For a beginner I would recommend an emperor as their venom is less toxic to most people and they aren't as aggressive.
that's exactly it, the pet scorpions are not intimidated as much by the person who feeds it and takes care of it. in the wild, it's constantly trying to defend itself from danger. If I never handled any of my pets, they would be biting and or stinging me all the time.
@twiztidtyler707 this is more of a docile species the ones you find in the desert they usually more aggressive and venomous. these among with emperors and some other species are less aggressive and less likely to sting =D
Pretty cool scorp. Love how you just fearlessly pick it up. I might try that with an emperor, but I have read from all sources (many sources) that red-claw are more aggressive. Did you come up with this method by yourself, or did you read over it? How long have you had that pitcular red claw?
@tinygangster66 lol i tried breeding a red claw and an emperor but it failed. it just ended up my female red claw killing my male emperor which was like an inch bigger than the red claw.
@alexmortillaro the sites i been to sell for 12 dollars but the shipping is like 20 dollars wow is it possible to breed the red emperor scorpion with the regular emperor scorpion?
i want to create a large agressive scorpion because normal emperors are not very aggressive and red emperors arent as big
@tinygangster66 the red claw scorpion is also known as the Tanzanian red claw scorpion, they aren't emperor scorpions , but they are in the pandinus family of scorpions. I'm not sure if you can breed them both together, but you might have better luck breeding two aggressive Asian forest scorpions.
how many years do I need to wait till I get stung? it's been over 3 now, and since I know what I'm doing, I've yet to get stung by any of my scorpions. but please if you have an obvious method that is better, shine in. I'm sure you are very well experienced with scorpions.
@alexmortillaro Where did you get that kind of scorpion from?? I have an Emperor Scorpion hes bad ass.. But I really like the color of yours lol I want that 1
@103423lee My scorp has stung me (through an uncharacteristic moment of carelessness by myself) and I still like him just the same. People and their pettiness piss me off to no end.
I have a question, maybe its a stupid one but I just need to know. Why do you have a scorpion? They are not the usual pets people take. I got 2 dogs myself and i get lots of love and joy from them, but I suppose you dont get that from a scorpion. So whats the reason why people take scorpions or snakes or any animal like that?
I guess it's the same reason other people want crocodiles as pets. they may not show love or joy to the human, but the human gets to experience something that others won't or are to scared of. other people may do it for the risk, they may get stung or bitten from an animal, so it gets the adrenaline pumping I guess. I don't think we keep them because they wait for us to get home from work everyday. we keep them because they are something different and unusual to keep as a pet.
@alexmortillaro ok nice, thank you for your answer. Another question I have is, I saw this vid of this guy having an Androctonus australis, but that is one of the most dangerous scorpions in the world. How do you pick this kind of scorpion up to clean his place and stuff? You have to wear gloves, I guess? Or you just let him in his place forever till he dies? And whats the average age of a scorpion? Sorry for all the questions but I think they are incredible but dont know much about them.
the way I pick them up is by grabbing the telson or the stinger bulb portion of the tail. I'd grab them by the tail because if they want they'll sting your palm or worse, your wrist by scooping them up. picking up a fat tail scorpion would work the same way as picking up an emperor scorpion or even a deathstalker scorpion. the difference is one might kill you and the other may not. scorpions life expectancies are all scattered so I don't know. the scorpions I have live for about 3-4 years.
@proshot18 I ve been taught that scorpions are dangerous, if they sting you with the stinger you can die, thats why I asked all the questions. Im kinda afraid of them, but its probably the same as people who are afraid of dogs.
@kaikaz I am a snake owner, the best answer I can come up with is kind of simple, it's that whatever odd animal we may be into simply fascinates us. I myself am not really into tarantulas or scorpions, but I understand how they can be fascinated by them the same way I am by snakes. I recommend reading Snake by Chris Mattison. It's a cheap interesting book (with pictures!) and I think it would give you a good idea of why someone may find something interesting when some find it weird or scary.
@c0dy1287 Ok thanks for your opinion. I can understand when someone takes a snake. You can touch some of them, like those big yellow snakes (dont know the name, sorry). You can put them in your neck and show them to people. Not every snake is dangerous, dont know that about scorpions. The scorpion in this vid is gorgous, the red shine on this scorpion is awesome but I would stay far away from every scorpion even tho I know if someone said it couldnt harm me. I wouldnt have that with snakes.
I'm not sure, I think it could have been the lighting. when these scorpions are in natural sunlight, the hue is slightly different then artificial lighting. in actuality, these scorpions aren't really red, they just have a faint red hue.
do you live in southern Australia? there's dessert scorpions very similar to the red claw scorpions in Australia. I'm sure there is at least one pet store that carries scorpions in your area anyways. I live in new york where lizards, tarantulas, scorpions, snakes etc. don't exist.
I wouldn't see any problem in mixing those scorpions, as they are in the same family. always keep the same sized scorpions together. if one scorpion is much larger then the other scorpion, chances are it will eat or kill the smaller scorpion. although, I've seen people keep desert hairy scorpions, flat rock scorpions, and emperor scorpions together. some may or may not be compatible with the other scorpion, so it goes without saying.
poison and venom aren't the same things. a scorpions venom can completely shut down the nervous system and slow down someones heart enough to kill them, if they were allergic to one. they have what is called neurotoxins. I can't explain all of it just in here. think of this scorpion in the video as a bee, it's sting is slightly more painful, but will deliver the same results. the pandinus family of scorpions aren't very dangerous. try checking out the deathstalker scorpion.....
don't be confused with poisonous and venomous. no scorpion is poisonous, however they all carry venom. however, if you meant to say venomous then you would be correct.
i love these things, but idk which one to get the RED or the BLUE scorpion, and is there really a difrence? would they both look different under the blacklight?
this video is really old and I wasn't picking him up correctly. I learned to pick them up by there tail, it's easier and safer, chances of getting stung are slim.
@alexmortillaro funny thing is I always used to pick mine up by the end of the tail but now he's wise to it and reaches up to pinch my fingers every time, so the only way I can pick him up now is by doing it the way you do in the vid - he doesn't seem to have a problem with that. lol
I have one look at my video's i have an asian forest scorpion i dont handle it because its super aggresive but he walkes around when i turn his light out but i recomend buying one they are my favorite animals along with snakes they are so easy to keep just whatever you do dont stick a heat mat in the tank and keep the humidity up dont let it get too dry if you have any more questions then just ask

It's a sad day when any scorpion dies, they're such an amazing creature.. you have my sympathy.. I just got my male an aggressive little beastess of a scorpion (mine are P.Imperator btw) and I think she might have broken part of his stinger, or he accidently broke it himself, no worries though he just cannot pierce skin or insects with his stinger until his next molt, which I hope will be soon and I hope it will actualy heal up.
scorpions have toxins in the bulb of there tail. when they strike the victim there venom ( toxins ) restrict the victim by slowing it's nervous system down and there respiratory system. many people die each year do to the fact that they can not handle or withstand certain scorpions venom like the ( deathstalkers ) venom. people often stop breathing and can react pretty badly especially those who are allergic to bee stings. the scorpion in this video, does possess venom but it is pretty harmless
the emperor scorpion isn't that harmful unless you were allergic to them. it works the same way bee stings do almost. the deadliest known scorpion is call the deathstalker. it works simply by, the smaller the scorpion, the more dangerous it is. the larger the scorpion the more it will rely on it's claws rather it's stinger.
@alexmortillaro Yeah, I'm not allergic to bee stings.I had a beautiful black emperor and i had for about 3 weeks then it died i don't know why i gave it food and water.and make the cage humid.
I'm not allergic to bee stings ether. as far as the death of your scorpion, they can die due to stress of relocation. sometimes they just won't eat and starve them selves or for what other reason it might be.
@alexmortillaro oh ok :D btw he looks really cool =] one time around 2 years ago i was at someone me dad knew and she had really big spiders and scorpions scary :D
@alexmortillaro yeah, that is true, i have two pet tarantulas and when i first got hold of them i almost peed my pants! now they are my best friends! :)
these scorpions are the deadliest scorpions in the world!....NOT there sting is only comparable to a bee sting there is nothing really to worry about.
the (pandinus) family of scorpions has a very mild level of toxins. They do inflict painful stings yet will most likely NOT kill a human. It works like this, the larger the scorpion, the more the scorpion relies on it's claws for there defense . Smaller scorpions tend to be more threatening to humans and have smaller claws, leaving there stinger as a last resort for defense. The death stalker scorpion, has the most dangerous nerotoxins of that of any scorpion, its size is very small.
mate u were shakin loads when u picked it up :P dw i was as well ;P

tinygangster66 1 year ago
@tinygangster66
I think you replied to the wrong person :P I'm not the one with the scorpion.
Pestinha92 1 year ago
I bought mine at pet supplies plus. you can purchase them online though, but shipping won't be cheap.
alexmortillaro 1 year ago
@alexmortillaro the sites i been to sell for 12 dollars but the shipping is like 20 dollars wow is it possible to breed the red emperor scorpion with the regular emperor scorpion?
i want to create a large agressive scorpion because normal emperors are not very aggressive and red emperors arent as big
tinygangster66 1 year ago
@tinygangster66 the red claw scorpion is also known as the Tanzanian red claw scorpion, they aren't emperor scorpions , but they are in the pandinus family of scorpions. I'm not sure if you can breed them both together, but you might have better luck breeding two aggressive Asian forest scorpions.

dude u should like sue em or curse em out they probably treated it with bad care after u bought him

what the hell is wrong with u wait till it stings u. yea u aint gonna like him when he stings u.
103423lee 1 year ago
how many years do I need to wait till I get stung? it's been over 3 now, and since I know what I'm doing, I've yet to get stung by any of my scorpions. but please if you have an obvious method that is better, shine in. I'm sure you are very well experienced with scorpions.

@alexmortillaro Where did you get that kind of scorpion from?? I have an Emperor Scorpion hes bad ass.. But I really like the color of yours lol I want that 1
Duvall027PS3 4 months ago
@103423lee
Not too intelligent, I assume? Scorpions will only sting if they are enraged or irritated.
HeihachiFan212 1 year ago
@103423lee My scorp has stung me (through an uncharacteristic moment of carelessness by myself) and I still like him just the same. People and their pettiness piss me off to no end.

I have a question, maybe its a stupid one but I just need to know. Why do you have a scorpion? They are not the usual pets people take. I got 2 dogs myself and i get lots of love and joy from them, but I suppose you dont get that from a scorpion. So whats the reason why people take scorpions or snakes or any animal like that?
kaikaz 1 year ago
I guess it's the same reason other people want crocodiles as pets. they may not show love or joy to the human, but the human gets to experience something that others won't or are to scared of. other people may do it for the risk, they may get stung or bitten from an animal, so it gets the adrenaline pumping I guess. I don't think we keep them because they wait for us to get home from work everyday. we keep them because they are something different and unusual to keep as a pet.
alexmortillaro 1 year ago 18
@alexmortillaro ok nice, thank you for your answer. Another question I have is, I saw this vid of this guy having an Androctonus australis, but that is one of the most dangerous scorpions in the world. How do you pick this kind of scorpion up to clean his place and stuff? You have to wear gloves, I guess? Or you just let him in his place forever till he dies? And whats the average age of a scorpion? Sorry for all the questions but I think they are incredible but dont know much about them.
kaikaz 1 year ago
the way I pick them up is by grabbing the telson or the stinger bulb portion of the tail. I'd grab them by the tail because if they want they'll sting your palm or worse, your wrist by scooping them up. picking up a fat tail scorpion would work the same way as picking up an emperor scorpion or even a deathstalker scorpion. the difference is one might kill you and the other may not. scorpions life expectancies are all scattered so I don't know. the scorpions I have live for about 3-4 years.
alexmortillaro 1 year ago
@kaikaz that scorpion is fairly harmless if you notice its pincers are much bigger than its stinger so it wont do much damage it will just pinch you.
proshot18 1 year ago
@proshot18 I ve been taught that scorpions are dangerous, if they sting you with the stinger you can die, thats why I asked all the questions. Im kinda afraid of them, but its probably the same as people who are afraid of dogs.
kaikaz 1 year ago
@kaikaz I am a snake owner, the best answer I can come up with is kind of simple, it's that whatever odd animal we may be into simply fascinates us. I myself am not really into tarantulas or scorpions, but I understand how they can be fascinated by them the same way I am by snakes. I recommend reading Snake by Chris Mattison. It's a cheap interesting book (with pictures!) and I think it would give you a good idea of why someone may find something interesting when some find it weird or scary.
c0dy1287 1 year ago
@c0dy1287 Ok thanks for your opinion. I can understand when someone takes a snake. You can touch some of them, like those big yellow snakes (dont know the name, sorry). You can put them in your neck and show them to people. Not every snake is dangerous, dont know that about scorpions. The scorpion in this vid is gorgous, the red shine on this scorpion is awesome but I would stay far away from every scorpion even tho I know if someone said it couldnt harm me. I wouldnt have that with snakes.
kaikaz 1 year ago
I'm not sure, I think it could have been the lighting. when these scorpions are in natural sunlight, the hue is slightly different then artificial lighting. in actuality, these scorpions aren't really red, they just have a faint red hue.

is it possible to get one from australia ? if not is there a website to ship a young one to australia ?
awhatzable 1 year ago
do you live in southern Australia? there's dessert scorpions very similar to the red claw scorpions in Australia. I'm sure there is at least one pet store that carries scorpions in your area anyways. I live in new york where lizards, tarantulas, scorpions, snakes etc. don't exist.

do all pandinus get along? will the red claw get along with the african emperor?
cracker6 1 year ago
I wouldn't see any problem in mixing those scorpions, as they are in the same family. always keep the same sized scorpions together. if one scorpion is much larger then the other scorpion, chances are it will eat or kill the smaller scorpion. although, I've seen people keep desert hairy scorpions, flat rock scorpions, and emperor scorpions together. some may or may not be compatible with the other scorpion, so it goes without saying.
alexmortillaro 1 year ago
@cracker6 never mix animal species, especially scorpions. theres no point in putting them together anyway just get 2 different cages.
oreowithmilk1 1 year ago
whats the differende? what would happen if you got stung?
Iamstreet95oh 1 year ago
poison and venom aren't the same things. a scorpions venom can completely shut down the nervous system and slow down someones heart enough to kill them, if they were allergic to one. they have what is called neurotoxins. I can't explain all of it just in here. think of this scorpion in the video as a bee, it's sting is slightly more painful, but will deliver the same results. the pandinus family of scorpions aren't very dangerous. try checking out the deathstalker scorpion.....
alexmortillaro 1 year ago
Is this bad boy poisonnous?
Iamstreet95oh 1 year ago
don't be confused with poisonous and venomous. no scorpion is poisonous, however they all carry venom. however, if you meant to say venomous then you would be correct.
alexmortillaro 1 year ago
i love these things, but idk which one to get the RED or the BLUE scorpion, and is there really a difrence? would they both look different under the blacklight?

red claws look the same under ultraviolet light, it wouldn't matter.

i think i have no balls for taking it on my hand xD
maurorock445 1 year ago
this video is really old and I wasn't picking him up correctly. I learned to pick them up by there tail, it's easier and safer, chances of getting stung are slim.
alexmortillaro 1 year ago
@alexmortillaro funny thing is I always used to pick mine up by the end of the tail but now he's wise to it and reaches up to pinch my fingers every time, so the only way I can pick him up now is by doing it the way you do in the vid - he doesn't seem to have a problem with that. lol

just not as aggressive as other scorpions.

It's a sad day when any scorpion dies, they're such an amazing creature.. you have my sympathy.. I just got my male an aggressive little beastess of a scorpion (mine are P.Imperator btw) and I think she might have broken part of his stinger, or he accidently broke it himself, no worries though he just cannot pierce skin or insects with his stinger until his next molt, which I hope will be soon and I hope it will actualy heal up.

scorpions have toxins in the bulb of there tail. when they strike the victim there venom ( toxins ) restrict the victim by slowing it's nervous system down and there respiratory system. many people die each year do to the fact that they can not handle or withstand certain scorpions venom like the ( deathstalkers ) venom. people often stop breathing and can react pretty badly especially those who are allergic to bee stings. the scorpion in this video, does possess venom but it is pretty harmless
alexmortillaro 1 year ago
@alexmortillaro So what are the deadliest scorpions i know the emperor scorpion isn't deadly right?
Swrtzjstn12 1 year ago
the emperor scorpion isn't that harmful unless you were allergic to them. it works the same way bee stings do almost. the deadliest known scorpion is call the deathstalker. it works simply by, the smaller the scorpion, the more dangerous it is. the larger the scorpion the more it will rely on it's claws rather it's stinger.
alexmortillaro 1 year ago
@alexmortillaro Yeah, I'm not allergic to bee stings.I had a beautiful black emperor and i had for about 3 weeks then it died i don't know why i gave it food and water.and make the cage humid.
Swrtzjstn12 1 year ago
I'm not allergic to bee stings ether. as far as the death of your scorpion, they can die due to stress of relocation. sometimes they just won't eat and starve them selves or for what other reason it might be.

MECHc3ify 2 years ago
these scorpions are the deadliest scorpions in the world!....NOT there sting is only comparable to a bee sting there is nothing really to worry about.
alexmortillaro 2 years ago
then how are they the deadliest inform me im stupid lol
MECHc3ify 2 years ago
the (pandinus) family of scorpions has a very mild level of toxins. The death stalker scorpion, has the most dangerous nerotoxins of that of any scorpion, its size is very small.
alexmortillaro 2 years ago
I have a bigger version of this breed of scorpion! It's 10 times larger and lives underwater!
