I was in the grandstand at paddock hill when this happened. he had sustained some damage to his front wing during the race and was still racing when it parted company on the way into the corner, no down force on the front = big understeer= hello tyres. Was a big one. Glad he was ok

Yes his dad was the World Driving Champion Phil Hill. Derek is one of the nicest guys I've ever met, and I wish him the best in life.

I think this Derek Hill guy is related to an F1 champ, couldn't be Graham Hill as he's British, so it's probably '67 champ Phil Hill i think..
