The Marine Corps shortest enlistment is a 4 year active or reserve followed by either active reserves or active (if you went reserves first). I got a 5 by 3 year contract because of the length of my follow on schools. Army is probably the same way for its follow on schools

After this you go to MCT which in my opinion was 10x worse than boot camp physically and mentally especially when you go during the rainy season. Also I've heard the army gets "Stress Cards"? The only thing this has in common with my boot camp is the scenery.
This is not a disgrace to the beloved Marine Corps. Though this isn't even a taste of what one has to endure in basic. This allows the public to see what one goes through day in and day out, hour after hour. This is not meant to be a disgrace, and it isn't. This is building respect for all service men and women across the country. If one can watch this and not include the members of the military in their prayers as young men and women go overseas, then soulless they are.

@FLATFEET3 Yes you should practice a lot. Everyone is treated just as bad. They have underwear and you request to use the head. Depending where you live you won't see many females, and you won't be around them anyways. Doesn't really matter how strong you are. It's how mentally strong you are. 10% physical, 90% mental. It's hard and everyone fells the pain, the difference with the Marines is you have to have to mental ability to push yourself beyond anything you've ever done.
@FLATFEET3 the activities arn't "very" hard. It's just that they never stop. I leave to that place in the video Aug 22 2011. I've had some time with the DI's and they're very hardcore. There's also time you spend in class learning about the Corps and various other things. That's one of the the great things about the Corps, every single Marine has been through that hell. When a group of people go through hell together, it makes a common bond and friendship even with those you've never met.

@sdopfel In Army JROTC the punishment for dropping your rifle is half and hour of rifle push-ups. (Rifle push-ups are where you have your rifle laid across your hands and as you go down you have to kiss your rifle.)
I'm pretty sure the USMC would just stab them in the kidney followed by a three week lashing using using the the rifle sling. At least that's how I imagine it. :P

This is not a disgrace to the beloved Marine Corps. Though this isn't even a taste of what one has to endure in basic. This allows the public to see what one goes through day in and day out, hour after hour. This is not meant to be a disgrace, and it isn't. This is building respect for all service men and women across the country. If one can watch this and not include the members of the military in their prayers as young men and women go overseas, then soulless they are.

The Marines should have never allowed this to happen!!! Those teachers and camera crew have no right to see or even get a mild experience of what my brothers and I went through. The only ones who have the right to see what it takes to become a Marine are the men and women that make that commitment! I am thoroughly disgusted with the direction the Marine Corps is heading in. Starting to turn into the disgusting army.

@randyusmc im in the air force and while my training is a cake walk compared to the hell you went through i totally agree with you. Having a camera crew going through basic is stupid it takes away from the experience from all those who have yet to go through. so many people ned to just go through empty minded and just be ready to get yelled at alot and be physically and mentally fit. if they cant graduate basic with just that alone then they dont belong in the beloved Corps

I respect the Marine Corps, highly. But wtf, what about the Army? Like we don't go through the same tough shit. The difference in the Army is there's more than 2 places for BCT. And most videos on here of the pussy BCT's for the Army. Like Ft. Jackson or Leanordwood. Try going to Ft. Benning, home of the Infantry.

@FLATFEET3 Yes you should practice a lot. Everyone is treated just as bad. They have underwear and you request to use the head. Depending where you live you won't see many females, and you won't be around them anyways. Doesn't really matter how strong you are. It's how mentally strong you are. 10% physical, 90% mental. It's hard and everyone fells the pain, the difference with the Marines is you have to have to mental ability to push yourself beyond anything you've ever done.

@FLATFEET3 the activities arn't "very" hard. It's just that they never stop. I leave to that place in the video Aug 22 2011. I've had some time with the DI's and they're very hardcore. There's also time you spend in class learning about the Corps and various other things. That's one of the the great things about the Corps, every single Marine has been through that hell. When a group of people go through hell together, it makes a common bond and friendship even with those you've never met.

@sdopfel In Army JROTC the punishment for dropping your rifle is half and hour of rifle push-ups. (Rifle push-ups are where you have your rifle laid across your hands and as you go down you have to kiss your rifle.)
I'm pretty sure the USMC would just stab them in the kidney followed by a three week lashing using using the the rifle sling. At least that's how I imagine it. :P
