Oh fuck you... Just go look at the orchestral version, as written by Ravel. Leave your phofia to classical music to one side, and go listen to truly meaningful music.
There are many wonders hidden under the "taboo" of classical music.
Truly a remarkable song. Ferry Corsten has made this into a Masterpiece! I Haven't heard this since 2008, but even in 2011, its still one-hell of a track! :D Love it
@technofurry4ever i agree 100 percent....i have it recorded on DVR...i heard it one day on Sirius.........great track.........ive looked everywhere and cant find a place to buy this track
If you listen to the original version over this images it fits much more beautifully than this remix, which i think it's not even close to what the orchestral version can make you feel
i see what you mean but Trance records have an image in our minds as to what they would be like via video, and whilst this does not fit at first, you soon start to associate the melodies with sad occasions, once viewed a few times. However,i would not have this played at my funeral !
I totally love trance versions of classical pieces. It just adds rythm and maybe a bit more power to a beautiful melody. Not all remixes are great (not all melodies lend themself for this either) but if it's done well, It can give beautiful result
The film is good, but i really hate when people remake a beautiful classical piece to something like this...If it had been the original pavane pour une infante defunte, i would defenitely give you 5 stars!
Surry but i have 2 disagree... This trance version from Ferry is maybe even better than the original. Ferry made the remix with respect unlike many other artists who do remixes. Ferry always does.
Folks, this discussion is moot. The guy uses the melody twice to decorate some humpin' pumpin' stuff - so what? If I was all ripped out on a dance floor and heard that melody I'd be excited that I could name the tune for a change. This will never rob the original piano or orchestral adaptations of their beauty or depth so please chill out.
the original 'mix' is actually a classical piece of music and the story it's supposed to tell is about a dead princess, that's why the video is what it is
Uhh, Ravel was conducting orchestras by the age of 25 and already a million miles ahead of any trance music of today. Ferry's rmx is great as far as TRANCE goes. BUT the remix is less than a tiny speck of dust compared to the ORIGINAL piece or Ravel's equally amazing ORCHESTRAL adaptation.
Maybe you are blind to what I wrote and what I was responding to. Someone equated Ferry's remix with the original piece by Ravel. Tell me, does a DJ making a trance track (remix in this case) require the same level of talent and skill as a person who writes and conducts their own (6 minute) orchestral piece for a full orchestra? Tell me, will your top trance classic still be played 100 years from now?
a classical composer and modern DJ are two separate talents altogether.
If william orbit or ferry had been around in the days of Ravel, then who is to say they couldn't have composed and conducted an orchestra as good as Ravel?
You will never be able to prove who is better as they come from different centuries! jerk!
uh, the person said if Ravel were alive today. Not the other way around. If they are two separate talents then why were they compared in first place and why are you comparing them now? What requires more talent, pressing play on a cdj and cueing up this remix, or playing "Pavane" on the piano or conducting a an orchestra? You resorted to name calling, b/c you know I am right. I rest my case. haha!
they are two different talents from different centuries,so whats the point of saying one is better than the other?i think they are equals and could well do each others profession with ease.
You can keep calling me names if that builds up your fragile self-esteem but it doesn't help your case. People resort to namecalling when they don't have anything else to say. What does your namecalling really accomplish, and what does that say about you? Again, do you think your top trance classic will be remixed 100 years from now? If you feel that conducting and writing symphonies equates to trance remixes, ok. I certainly disagree. End of discussion. haha!
believe: Your discussion is well thought out, and makes perfect sense. Ravel was from a another world, and even though this version is a good thing, it's just a shadow of the original.
pruefziffer you're right!sometimes i think this style of trance music, together with ambient, is the continuation and the modernization of classical music!
Basically this has nothing to do w/ Ravel, he just used the tune like twice. Otherwise it's just monotonously repeated chords and beat - mediocre stuff. The original has both harmonic and rhythmic variety - those are all lost here.
the version made by william orbit without this beat is better, its more spiritual and reflective. This is nothing more than a creamfields nightclub anthem
ferry's remix of adagio got so much more attention but this is far superior in every way imo...just a damn shame they shortened it so much for the video either way this is freakin awesome
I'm quite thrilled to hear this. And I have since June 2000, when I brought the CD single. And it's nice to hear a less known Ravel track for once, as I've heard Balero one too many times.
However, you gotta think in a different way, in many cultures (in south america, I may be wrong) , death is not MOURNED it is CELEBRATED. May be bcoz they believe that death is kinda liberation of something.
Again: I am not a religious guy or preacher or wtf whatever. I am just interpreting based on knowledge acquired by reading and watching documentaries.
I'd actually like to find sheet music of this song. Not this Trance remix, but the original. It's inspired me to write something like it. However I can't seem to do so.
Ferry did a nice job remixing this. He didn´t destroy the original. Both are great.

it supposed to be some happy occasion, like birth or something like that. not funeral and crying.

If Maurice Ravel was alive today he certainly would make Trance music :D
Cause Trance is this !!! Emotion !!!
It´s Impossible not to like a masterpiece like this.
I hope modern trance producers learn from the past and that we are not in a lowdness war but in an emotional one!
Trance is more than music it´s life itself!

Who cares where Ravel was conducting at 25.we have moved on from Classical music days,it's called musical evolution.
You are obviously blind to the talent of modern day DJ's they are all self taught musicians,a the computer is their instrument.

I see so now from these comments you can tell what's someone's personality is like can you? You should be on TV then as a magician/mind reader.
Answer me this is ..if being a DJ is so easy then how come everyone who tries to become one doesn't make it ?
You have no argument at all as you cannot say who is better ,ever due to these guys not being alive at the same time as another.
I would say that from those who read your crap most think you are a complete tosser and a nerd.
