  • Dude yo rock man thanks a lot for these awsome tutorials!

  • clown fish

  • nemo was a clown fish they made a whole joke about in the film

  • ClownFish

  • @LukaDawnhacker Probably because people are confused as to what the program is used for or compatible with, like me. The only languages I know of are objective-c, HTML 5, and css3. I'de rather just know what this program is used for so I don't waist my time learning it.

  • @LeafDot1 is HTML5 a programming language?

  • Actually you are breaking everything down pretty darn well. Your vid tutorials work much better for me than alot of stuff Ive found on print so far.

  • clowmfish xDDDDDD

  • before i spend anymore time learning this shit, is it useful for anything? please answer

  • Should get in to using shoes for some gui ruby programming. Or if you have somthing better then shoes.

  • TNB: I'm going to break this peice by peice.

Me: You can break this up even more? (Whoa!)

  • @thenewboston Nemo is a clown fish! :D

  • @marijanseki He have.

  • Bucky, could you please integrate a session on how to access a MySQL Database by using Ruby?

I watched you MySQL Tutorials and would really like to know how to combine it with a programming language like Ruby.

  • @PaT07M use Rails framework for easy mysql integration

  • Hey, just want to say that you have some real good tutorials, I like the way you teach. I can follow. Don't change the way you teach. Nemo is a Clown fish by the way.

  • low level language?

  • @0pt1muzPr1m3 lol no, that's assembly language, its 10 times harder than this

  • Nemo was a clownfish

  • @tmantonym it's a scripting language, used to handle events and such (such as in a game)

  • hey mr bucky can u add those tutorials to ur site, i kinda like it and i think its really usefull for a begginers like me.

  • Why learn ruby? As opposed to other languages. What is it used for?

  • @tmantonym google ruby on rails

  • @tmantonym scripting in Sketchup, Scripting in 3ds max, Google uses it quite a bit as well in some of their services..

  • @tmantonym Learning to program is always good, but I don't think that ruby is the best choise.

I would pick one of these: C#, C++, Java, PHP

  • @tmantonym Ruby sucks, and by itself no one uses it and its not worth learning at all. However, there is a web application framework for ruby called Ruby on Rails (RoR) which makes ruby extremely powerful and useful. On top of this, RoR programmers are EXTREMELY in demand and are pretty much the highest paid programmers ever.

  • @Cliu363 same with COBOL programmers.

  • @tmantonym It's all about preference and ease of use really.

  • @tmantonym Twitter!

  • @tmantonym thats what im trying to find out!

  • @tmantonym For Ruby On Rails which I think its the next target to Bucky .. Google " Ruby On Rails " and See whats all about ..

BTW : Its used by Twitter and Amazon ;)

  • @tmantonym Its one of the easier programming languages to use, and you can move on to ruby on rails later on.

  • @tmantonym Why the hell are questions like "What is ruby good for?" in the top comments of every of bucks ruby videos? This question is as unnecessary as "What is objective-c good for?" or "What is javascript good for?". You can do pretty much anything with ruby. A programming language is just a tool. How you use it and what you build with it is up to you.

  • @LukaDawnhacker You seem to be unaware, but there are pros and cons of every programming language. I program in java for making games quickly for web deployment and C++ to make little applications that I want to make a little more professional. I was simply asking for the pros and cons of ruby, nothing to get bent out of shape over. Though, I do forgive you for your lack of knowledge on the subject.

  • @tmantonym You forgive me for your lack of knowledge on the subject? Oh how nice of you. Thinking that java is only good for web development and games and c++ for "professional" applications shows that you are the one lacking the knowledge.

  • *for my lack of knowledge

  • @tmantonym Ruby is a language that is commonly used with servers to process and return webpages with help of a framework called Ruby on Rails. I'm sure it has other great uses, but 99% of people will use it for just that purpose.

It's more or less the same as any other server-side language, like PHP or Python. I think this quote sums it up quite nicely:

"I’d say something Ruby currently has that PHP does not is hype, vibrancy and sex appeal." - Ryan Allen

  • @PotadoTomado that's truer than true

  • @tmantonym mostly people use it for rpg maker xp, or rpg maker vx, there big jrpg making prgrams that can use ruby to make them be so much more customizable

  • @tmantonym Well as opposed to Java or C++ speed and dynamic typing. Not execution speed but the speed of the programmer(You) to get the job done quicker. As compared to Python well that's just personal choice they are effectively the same target audience written in different style.

  • @tmantonym

I only know python, and it sucks, and thenewboston has the best tutorials for programming in the world

  • OH CMON WHICH PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE YOU DON'T KNOW?

  • Im in the nerdy part of youtube again

  • @CloudDecim Learn Ruby. Make Program. Have Fun. Whilst you do what?

  • @killiansheehan have fun :D

  • write a 3d game engine with this language i bet you can't :P

  • @jock0man you don't say...

  • @jock0man So? Programming is alot more than making a 3D game. Im sure you could write some useful tools using ruby that could assist in creating a 3D game.

  • @jock0man Yes you can :P

  • Percula clownfish

  • Nemo was a orange and white clownfish:)

  • Nemo was clownfish.

  • Isn't Ruby a terrible programming language?

  • @TheExplodingPumpkin No. It's good.

  • @TheExplodingPumpkin who the hell told you it was "terrible programming language"?

  • @TheExplodingPumpkin I guess you aren't familiar with programming. Ruby has many nice features that make programming easier and more intuitive.

  • @LukaDawnhacker wow :] pls tell me more

  • clown fish ? goooogle

  • third

  • Nemo was a clown fish

  • First =P
