Because a rook is mainly armor bufferd so it can have as much ECM in the mids as possible. They probably had the drake and raven plate fitted aswell to work allong with the guardian.

@Drealmers try the trial ;) it's worth it. Sadly don't expect to have a lot of fun at first, because the learning curve is deadly. This is NOT world of warcraft, seriously.

Find yourself a coporation (guild) that helps noobs... look on popular game forums you enjoy, you certainly will find something !

The game is epic, it's beyond anything any game did before. It comes with a price though : it's VERY complex.

@startide You can expect a lot of fun, tbh, as long as you do NOT try to get into the biggest possible ship asap, but stay in a frig/destroyer, find yourself a corp or at least a bunch of guys to do something with. Learning this game alone is killer. It is doable, but immensely boring, as the tutorials take about an hour to explain what an experienced player can teach you in 3 minutes. On top of that, flying with a group of people is a load of fun, even if you are the underdog of the group

The rook will be armour tanked, not shield tanked. Shield tanking it would use up all those precious mid slots :D

I haven't seen any of the other fights from the tournament but it looks like they were relying on the jamming to win.

They were very heavy EW. Essentially the idea of the team was to use the frigates to damp any enemy ECM and the Rook to permajam anybody else. This was before the ECM nerf, I believe.

BoB is dead. Goonswarm destroyed Bob like a few months ago, and took the corp name for their alts.

The new Bob is KenZoku, but is now in a failure cascade. You'll probably have better luck with a different corp.

Drakes are very good passive tanks, if it comes down to like 2 ships vs the drake the drake can usually win, and they can also fit gang-link modules so it was probably there as a gang-booster

Ah, the alliance tournaments are by far the best fights in EVE. It's good to work on an alliance, set up the infrastructure and crank out capitals, but when your team is limited like this the strategy is sooo much deeper.

That, and the 2-cruiser tournaments.  I forget who runs those, but they're also amazing

You're a fool if you think that. Any capital ship is worthless without a supporting fleet. Take the 9th Fleet Dreadnought that Order of the Silent Shadow SLAUGHTERED. Their support fleet sucked, they lost their dread. Same goes anyplace else. Without the resources to support the capital, it's like the Monty Python episode where they're hunting mosquitoes. They can't hit a damn thing and just look like fools.

Btw: Bob's tactic here was retarded. Armor tanking caldari ships? WTF... Replace that Guardian with a Basilisk, fit proper gank mods in the low slots and lose the Maulus's in favour of more gank. They clearly got overpowered here, by 10 x approx 350dps if not more. How to handle that? By ganking a lot yourself too. Bob wasn't here (Raven + Drake != gankorama).
