While I think there are certainly better, more complex books to read out there the Harry Potter books all have this unique unexplainable quality to them which makes them ultra-digestible and addictive.

The series contains lovable, hatable and relatable characters that keep you caring about them for the whole seven books.

It's a series that's so easy to become invested in if you give it a chance.

i believe it is the very simplicity of the books that make them so accessable.

i have read the books to my son, he's dyslexic, later he read them himself and listened to cd's but i am happy to say at 19 he is long over it.

@yeeyoh I found Dracula to be severely boring especially in the beginning. Literature doesn't always ripen with age. Nathaniel Hawthorne? Just because Harry Potter is relatively new doesn't mean it isn't just as good or better than many books considered classics...

Yeah I suppose the way it is written through letters, journal, diary entries etc it is quite complicated, I could see why you might not like that. Once again I've never read teh Harry Potter books, so I can't comment on them, I've seen nothing so far that would make me the least bit interested in them. I, too, was skeptical at first about Harry but soon discovered that the series is more about than wizards, dragons, and potions: it's an incredibly deep story about life, choices, loss, friendship and countless other meaningful topics. Believe me, Harry Potter is a wonderful piece of literature that you will not regret reading by any stretch of the imagination.
