  • i feel so sorry for that girl shes protected that egg for weeks and that man comes along and brakes it whyd the hell what reason did he have to have to do that

  • If this IS about the Author's falling out with Christianity, perhaps he meant to show her the thruth, even if it meant shattering her hope... I don't know, but I'm still crying.

None of it makes sense to my mind, but my soul/emotions seem to have understood it. It tends to be the other way around with thev sort of art I watch (Sci Fi stuff, for example, which is more "thought-ish" by nature... the SciFi and mindfuck genres tend to coincide, but this is an exception... :()

  • The man's character is so ambiguous... They gave him such a nice guy voice... He seemed to care for the little girl... but he still breaks the egg...

Then again, he said this "You'll never know what's inside if you don't open it" thing... maybe he somehow did it for what he thought was her good... The mystery is part of it's charm and meaning, but it's still a bit depressing that we will never know...

  • At the end of the clip I was like on the edge of my seat like "NO!! WTF ARE YOU DOING!? STOP!! YO, STOP!!!".

  • VERY IMPORTANT, I am currently collecting emails and messages to send to Criterion in an effort to get a release of this film. Everyone, please contact me as soon as possible to support this wonderous film. SIncerly, Angel's Egg Coalition.

  • I'm honestly getting sleepy from the slow pace, so it's hard to pay attention to the philosophical aspects of the movie. -.-

  • Holy crap that lil girl is going to be sooooo pissed when she wakes up.

  • 5:34 - 7:50 somebody left the webcam on!!

  • @jedancovek wat do u mean?

  • fossil of an angel... you won't see that in a museum!

  • is it weird that I want an egg mcmuffin right now?

  • 6:27 Im pretty patient, but that really tested me

  • He only became drawn to the egg because she cared for it. If she didn't he probably would have lost interest.

  • My interpretation is this a pergatory. These "living" characters probably forgot what they were in living lives. Though, possibly the man was assigned by God to protect the girl without the man knowing.

The shadow fish possibly represent real life fish in the living world, with the men in armor hunting showing life outside.

Even the re-telling of Noah's Ark seems to show this man as a character of the cloth, helping the fact that the director is a Christian himself.

  • @minespatch

The director as christian? Highly doubt-ful. There's plenty of anime with christian references (crosses, etc) but that does not make the producers christians themselves.

  • @KrispyApplez He has stated that he was Christian, though I also heard he later turned away from Christianity, maybe even some time before the making of this movie. And the movie has a lot more Christian references than some crosses :).

  • you guys might not agree with me but, at first i thought the girl is keeping an egg of a monster. And the guy wanted to destroy it so that the monster wouldn't exist. So as the girl (cause he didn't save her when the girl is drowning.) Is like that girl will cause the egg to hatch a monster that will bring chaos to the world. I thought the guy was somekind a hero i think... That was just my weird thinking after watching this movie. But can anyone explain to me how this story about?

  • @SofiaMoonChild You are watching too much shounen anime :D

  • @RichiBitch

i guess so... that is why i don't understand watching this movie. can anyone explain the plot of this movie?

  • @SofiaMoonChild

I thought the same thing, the whole story of the horizon turned black and the dreaming bird made me think he was sent to find the new egg, to prevent destruction from happening again and destroying the egg to kill hte monster inside it....he seemed to be afraid of what was inside the egg

the men chasing shadows was weird though?! i so don't want to understand that!

  • Don't forget that dude have some Christ's features like cross like thing and maybe wounds in both hands and he destroys that egg(maybe symbolic affection to the shadowy earthy desires).

  • But you can also view it as the opposite. How existence can not go on, how god is a breaker, etc. I tend to go a little more in depth, but anyone can view this in their own type of way.

  • @charmed6057

Sure, this movie can be interpereted in many different ways

That the one reason from many ,why I liked it.

I'm not good with interpretations anyway.

  • I like where this is going

  • THAT BASTARD! >8(

  • Time doesn't exist.. Clock exists..

  • any one else watching 4:01 - 4:12 over and over again? It's amazing! When he re adjusts his fingers and the way the girl's hand reacts to being pulled away and how the fabric moves. It's just... wow.

  • the man askes the girl if she's hearing something and makes a response to all her comments, logical explanations..

he's trying to show her that there's nothing in the egg, no angels, no god, nothing in the egg, but she still has hope, she's waiting the being in the egg to come out so she can show it her world.

  • Angel's Egg is sort of an Existentialist Manifesto. The bird represents God. By revealing that the giant bird has been dead this entire time, it's saying that God's dead, or to go even further that God never excited in the first place. Not wanting to believe that God is dead, the little girl cherishes the egg, waiting around hoping for it to hatch, waiting for God to show her a sign and show her that life isn't so meaningless.

  • @Testament5 great comment..I agree.

  • oh wow the bones of angel

  • what are the true origins of mankind?

  • maybe the bird and the tree mean the evolution (theory)

since the church didn't really liked it in the beginning of time. Becoz we were created by God.

But what for good could be a day could be thousands of years for us

  • he took her virginity!

jk i'm not sure. just an idea.

  • 1:31 thats looks just like noahs ark =p

  • i understand it alll bein todo with christianity and all that seein teh big bird kinda brings lal that together it clicks like, but it aint half confusing

  • albino beautiful girl`s fantasy .

    so sweet.

  • this things messing with my head..

  • UNDERSTATEMENT, FRIEND.

  • aww <3

  • That's so awful and depressing, and what makes it more heartwrenching is that she asked him to promise not to hurt her egg in the last segment (part 7)

  • "Promise not to hurt my egg?" And he's thinking, "As soon as she puts that thing down, omlette. I haven't eaten once this whole movie."

  • LOL! XD

  • @KinyoobiYoru I know your comment was a year old, but I got to say that comment made me laugh so hard.

  • @GoC

to be fair, though i find it totally pervy too! he seems to be regreting what he is doing, at 4:34 he seems to have a caring look when he unwraps her hand from her shirt

and, when they show her stone statue holding the egg, he looks at it in a sad way, that's what i see

though i think the whole crushing of the egg symbolism is a little violent, whew

  • I bet the skeleton thing is supposed to be Lucifer! You know, the angel who was cast out of heaven, and I'll bet the egg was like his spawn or something.

  • if thats lucifer then after watching this movie i might want to end up like judus

  • lol he wanted an omelette so bad! lol

  • WHHAAAATTT?!

  • 3:05 It seems like the subtitles didn't catch that? Or is she whispering something..

  • It was the part where she said "Where it's warm"

  • Hey....what the... your right!!!!!

  • is that bird supposed to be the anti christ?

  • wats in de egg?

  • la de da this is a wicked film... you have more veiws on the later parts than the ones earlier lk more on part 8 then 6 :P

    xxxxx

  • He is kind of cute! So is the little girl!

  • NOOOOOOO!! oh, thanks again.:) *ahem* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

  • i think all thease slow shots represent that time never passes.there is no past present or future.even though we know that there was a past from all the ruins. But now everything is stuck in a time that repeats forever.

  • Did you watch "waking life"? you just wrote down the plot for that movie. With angel's egg it seems to me that is so well done that allows you te get lots of different and interesting conclusions/ideas about it, absolutely inspiring.

  • i havent seen waking life .but when it comes to camera angles ,music ect i am highly analytical. When you do art forms like this ,everything is done for a reason its not just thrown in for the sake of it like hollywood films.Anime like this is almost poetic so evrything you are looking at means somthing and you cant watch it with a vacant head. Its not the sort of thing i can chill out watching because i watched it at night and ended up sitting up half the night thinking about it! was blown away

  • Thanks for posting it! Angel's Egg is mesmerizing... And the messages that I get from it are so powerful... Truly a masterpiece. Now if only Icould buy it from amazon...

  • ^^ gracias gracias gracias

    thanks thanks thanks ^^

  • Thanks for the upload! such a great movie

  • Wah! Why did you cut it off there?!

  • lol, i know!!

  • Its almost over...

  • @marinersfanfromny where were you able to find this? Can you tell me?
