Why isnt there shit on the radio!? Take Daughtry and Justin Bieber off, and put them in there place. Every track off of the Dirty South album would be a #1 on the charts coast to coast
@USAFslacker fuck that, dude. You know what would happen then? Everybody would jump on the bandwagon, just like folks did with Nirvana. Wouldn't be able to tell those who did like them from those who were forced to like them. Glad they're underground, keeps shit real.
@UGAyankee Looks like A minor, C, add d slide C add d shape down a step, with a hammer-on pull off fill with G after the C chord before and after the slide down a step. At 3:00 looks like he plays G, E minor back to A minor. It's hard to sit here and just watch him to get it all though, I'll have to play with it a while.
Buford Pusser was a sheriff in the south who got cut up and then went after the guys who did it with a 2x4. He was known for being a bully and an asshole. The movie Walking Tall is about him.
This one could reference Corinth's Towhead White too, who was one of the heavy, as well as notable players in the Stateline Mob. He was a sworn enemy of Buford Pusser.
I think the Boys from Alabama is most likely about a "mob" group from Franklin and Colbert County, around Littleville, who were closely associated with White.
I figured the band guys grew up hearing "Buford" stories, but also being from the Shoals, often heard the localized, non-fictional accounts of what really went on.
Just got into DBT recently love all their albums especially Gangstability but this is definetly my favorite song on any of their albums! simply powerful
This song rocks!!! All about the State Line Mob and their antics. If they ever made a REAL movie(not Walking Tall) about the era of the mob, they should get Cooley to play Kirksey Nix, who this songs about!!!!
Can't wait to see DBT at the Real Big Deal in Gainesville in Sept!!!!!
I have some acoustic show (I think it is one of Jason's first) where Patterson says that Cooley had one of the State Line Mob as his Sunday school teacher.
Cool. I'd like to see that. There's a band called the State Line Mob on MySpace that kinda hints at knowing some of the members. Being a Southern boy born in the 70's and seeing Burt Reynolds in "White Lightning" and "Gator" at the drive in in Sumter, SC as a kid, that stuff fascinates me
Well, it's audio - so you wouldn't see it so much as hear it. I believe the show is available on the southernshelter website - you'll have to poke around a bit. It's the same show where Jason plays "Superman" - which is a GREAT song if you haven't heard it. Patterson says that thing about Cooley's Sunday school teacher in the intro to the Bufford Pusser song - it makes for a good story, but I take it with a grain of salt; given that Patterson has that Southern storyteller thing down cold.
It is actually probably true. One of the state line mob members taught bible school. He is actually "one of the boys from Alabama" A little research would probably give you the name, but I doubt you will ever hear DBT come out and say the name.

Has anyone ever accurately tabbed this song? I always see capo 3 drop-d but this video shows that's false...

@Swiftycumberdale I thought they tuned down a whole step, so when he is playing Dm it's actually in Cm. Drop the low E to D also...

@heintzleman I didn't know they tuned down, and is it just for this song or always?

The line in this song "they've long been bought and paid for like that fool's from Tenn." is a direct comment about Pusser.

listen to Stateline Mob's McNairy County Line to learn a little more about this subject matter.
Also googling the name Kirksey Nix McCord would help to.
