  • Early formation of Punk/Bad Boy rock

  • Why did I think this version was by Billy Squier? XD

  • This song came on our radio at our school and our teacher started dancing and before i knew it we all were up dancing! we started doing the wave and i did a headstand. it was AWESOME!

  • @887767438754 She must've been a pretty hip teacher to let the students dance in class. What did the principle have to say about it? :)

  • Enjoyed at the skating rinks ...boy that were days! Miss them now. kids would rather shoot up a roller rink or fight!

  • Awesome song! The best version I've ever heard of The Loco-Motion.

  • nice vid. I posted an LP quality of this song with lyrics and video in the video response, enjoy!

  • Fun Fact: GFR is from Flint, Michigan. I'll bet they were proud when these guys rocked the other cities and towns back in the day!!!!

  • If this don't take you back,, you weren't there.

  • did u ever wonder why a band...KISS from New York would write a song called Detroit Rock City?

  • @Syzygy60

  • @24SweetThing By the way, I'm glad you like this song. Our generation was great, wasn't it? People respected each other, kids respected their parents, graduated High School, and cared about people. I'm sorry, but it seems like today's young people don't care anymore. No offense to any of you young people who do. It's just the world has changed over the years, and not for the better :(

GOD BLESS YOU RENEE!!! YOU ARE A WONDERFUL PERSON :)

  • @1962drob What? Your generation was the very beginning of the youth revolt.

  • This is the BEST version of "The Loco-Motion". This is the version I grew up with.

    GRAND FUNK ROCKS!!!!

  • @1962drob I had this on a 45 rpm record as a kid.ROCK ON!!!!!!!

  • @MrMegaFredzeppelin Me too man!!! I played my 45 rpm record till there were scratches. I loved this song then, and I love it even more NOW!!!

    ROCK ON!!!!!!

  • @1962drob Thx for sending this to me my friend. I also was in the generation that grew up with this killer song. And of course their from the great state of Michigan, my home. Ya gotta say one thing abt Michigan, theres alot of awesome musicians that were born and bred here. Must be all the water! LOL

  • @24SweetThing I remember the Summer of '74. I was 12 years old, and I always played this song loud when it came on the radio, and of course, later bought the single. Back then, I thought Grand Funk Railroad did the original lol. I do know they did the best version!!!

That Summer, Nixon "Resigned", Gerald Ford took over as President, and The Brady Bunch was cancelled :(

    LONG LIVE THE 70'S!!!!!

  • @1962drob And the 80s of course. LOL

  • @24SweetThing Oh, of course!!! The 80s had some real cool Rock and of course, Heavy Metal!! And even the 90's had some good music. There are SOME good music today, but not a lot.

  • why are good songs so short?

  • My favorite version of this song :D

  • СУПЕРррррр)))

  • hot sheet fam cant deny good music im 22 and recgonize true classic when i hear it big ups to the funk

  • ジャニーズがソフトバンクのcmに出てた時の曲だよね?

  • I live in a very small town, and I remember in first grade at our Winter concert our teachers taught all the kids grades k-2 how to do the locomotion and they played this version of the song in the background. It was awesome :)

  • Todd Rundgren walks in while the band is foolin' around with it...and he says "You know what? You guys should record that...it'll be a hit!" And the rest, as they say, is history...

  • @tew8197

    Todd structured it for them.

  • @death2pc Yea he did.I always wanted to know what he (TR) did to make the guitar solo sound like it does.

  • @cast390

Rundgren had well by that time been employing synthesizer, incorporating same in various instrument and sound - voice track. This guitar work, in no small part reflected that.

On a side note, one of Rundgren's most exceptional works was A Cappella where every single sound was 100% voice - nothing other than voice, no instruments whatsoever - and keyed via synthesizer to take on instrument character.

The guy's so off the charts, beyond Richter Scale. And still not in the R&R HO"F".

  • This song takes me back to a more innocent time when people could go to a school dance with their dates, and meet up with their friends! It's a great song, with a killer guitar solo as well! BobbyK

  • I swear that lead sounds like he just threw the guitar down a flight of stairs!! And that's a good thing!!

  • It sounds wonderful to hear that guitar solo with all the distortion! K-EARTH 101.1 never allows it, and so I switch off when it plays the edited version.

  • I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG:)

  • What happened to auto-tuning? wait ohh shit this is real music?

  • that lead is smokin!

  • what happened to bands like this... real music?

    peace :)

  • Still love it !!!

  • this version kicks ass.

  • I like this version the best

  • Jesus, what an ill advised guitar solo!

  • The IT Crowd got this song stuck in my head

  • thumbs up if you heard some kind a wonderful on san andreas so now your listenin to all of there songs and lovin every one of them

  • Man I'm friggen 13yrs old and i love this song it so good

  • @TheGuitarfreak597 Gah, who cares how old you are?

  • best version ever!!!

  • @greciasoleble

Agreed. This version of Locomotion was the first one I heard. Later on I heard the Little Eva version and then Kylie Minogue's version. They pale in comparison. GFR's version just sounds soooo huge. This is one of the rare cases where the cover blows the original away.

  • @jukingeo cover versions? Atomic Kitten anyone? They did this one too...

  • @xlted1 Yes, this is a cover. Little Eva did the original. However, I grew up with GFR's version. Never heard of Atomic Kitten...so no I have not heard that one.

  • @jukingeo well basically type in atomic kitten loco-motion, and there you go.

  • hellyea!!

  • found this and so happy to hear it after so many years, still sounding like the ball breaking version I remember :-D

  • For more information on Grand Funk Railroad, consult your local library!

  • time to get the roller skates out

  • THE best version of the song ever :) Love Grand Funk and love this song!

  • this is a really funny version of this song :D:D

  • Lol...I remember dancing to his with my friend and her uncle! It was so much fun...I miss them old days

  • Bring back some groovy memories!!

  • why does this remind me of "every breath you take" by the police?

  • @ChuckNorris945 because Chuck Norris said so. :D

  • @ERoseyxP92 lol

  • @ChuckNorris945 It shouldn't remind you of 'every breath you take' lol..

  • Go Away Little Girl reached #1 by Steve Lawrence & Donny Osmond

  • @blitzshriek999 -Here's another fact about the Locomotion-"The Loco-Motion" was also the second song to reach #1 by two different musical acts. The earlier song to do this was "Go Away Little Girl," also written by Goffin and King. It is one of only nine songs to achieve this feat.-Yes that is all true about Carole Kings baby sitter-Eva Boyd(Little Eva)

  • rock and roll at its finest

  • This song made me feel chills when I listened to it back in the 70's....and it still does!

  • I remember hearing this as a kid on the orig vinyl...me and my buddy used to dig this song....What a time it was...big fuckin cars....wild drinking nightclubs....and our fathers were both in the nightclub business...what a way to grow up. too much fun.

  • i'm totally making this my ringtone

  • How can I forget this song! LOVE IT. Reminds me of Summer 2010 with my dad. They should play these kinds of songs at school dances not this rap/techno crap!

  • There is like three different versions of this song from three different decades that I know of...

  • @ASHtheMUSICALgirl13 all three versions were #1 on Billboard. No song has ever done that before or since.

  • I CAN DO THE LOCOMOTION LOL

  • Now there's 11 people who can't do the locomotion. Oh dear. The numbers are increasing. Somebody quick! Make a youtube video that shows these 11 people how to do the locomotion. I gotta say the guy who sings this song is hot!

  • meh, Little Eva all the way.

  • @NickyLess It took you 30 years to figure that out?

  • @doughesson 1) I'm only 24 so it's physically impossible for it to have taken me 30 years to work that out. 2) I only heard this about 3 weeks ago. My boyfriend showed it to me. So again, it's physically impossible for me to have taken 30 years to work it out.

  • @NickyLess And I'm supposed to have known that how?

  • @doughesson Don't make assumptions then.

  • @doughesson Don't assume things then. You're the one who mentioned 30 years, not me.

  • Great Song!!!!!!

  • This was the shit in 74'

  • @bama3417 Still is the shit in 2011

  • Doing the loco-motion is as easy as going through the chow line and filling up your plate. It doesn't take a genius.

  • The 1974 Remake by Grand Funk Railroad Rocks!!!!

  • no...10 people...is the person who cut you off today, the person that spat in your pizza from pizza hut, and the person who found your 64GB ipad you forgot on that bench at the airport, and didn't attempt to return it to you, yeah. anyways great song! been looking for this version for many moons!

  • I thought this was Billy Squier when I first heard this LOL

  • Ten members of Al-Queda dislike this---it must be great then!

  • @BeLogicalWillU

The enemy of my enemy is my friend!!!

    N O T!

    reclaim your brain...

  • @BeLogicalWillU Fuck those dotheads .

Maybe a carpet bombing would bring them around .

  • 10 people must think the locomotion causes blindness and hairy palms.

  • were they grand funk, with an album called railroad, or were they grand funk railroad?

  • @impellernut Grand Funk Railroad. Take it from a a man who was a high schooler when this came out

  • @RAYNEALAVERY High school + 1970s + Great Music = Epic Win.

  • @Minotauros and they say that there wasn't any good music came out of the seventies. BULL SH*T

  • @impellernut They began as Grand Funk Railroad but then dropped the Railroad around 1972. Don't know if it was coincidence but as Grand Funk Railroad they had more success with their albums and as Grand Funk, from 1973-1975, they were better known for their hit singles.

  • Back in the 70's we could not go to a skating rink and not hear this.

  • @bama3417 in 2011 There are still some rinks that play it often!!! LOL

  • Rundgren!

  • I can do it anytime, anywhere! This version is pretty funky!

  • Thomas the Tank Engine memories resurface when I listen to this song.

  • Lol 10 People just don't like good music.

  • Damn. It's the only GFR song for Rock Band without pro guitar and bass parts?!

  • @friedblowney it was leaked on the site a few days ago with some other songs. Suffice to say, we now know a few weeks of dlc ahead of us.

  • (_|\_) (_/|_) shake it baby thumbs up if ya can do the Loco Motion on Rock band

  • @Kineticartist I do it on the drums! Expert bro! And I shake my head around while playing it

  • 648 PEOPLE NOT ONLY CAN DO THE LOCOMOTION BUT ROCK AT IT!!!!!!!!!!

  • ohhh this song

  • This NEVER fails to remind me of Friday nights at the roller rinks. One of the best dance songs....and best covers .....ever!

  • This is due for the music game Rock Band 3 :D it got leaked a few hours ago!

  • @themono not exactly leaked. More like announced on the official RB forum page. But still, sweet news!

  • @themono Is it a shock? Nothing hard anymore. Alternative, metal and hard rock dont have a place anymore it seems.

  • @YiuTeub uh, because YOU say so?

  • I normally love the original and hate remakes, but this is vastly superior to both Little Eva's original and Kylie Minogue.

  • CRAZY how an obvious studio jam session from when people really MADE tunes blows away today's music, isn't it?

  • Thanks for posting. I was a freshman in high school when this came out. Memories. :)

  • Long live the Funk!

  • 9 people took the highway instead

  • FYI today, March 10, is the 37th anniversary of this song.

  • @juanmosey this song is almost 50 years man

  • @xXxstunner Very true but GFR made it a #1 song for them in 1974.

  • @juanmosey This is the only song in the world that has been in the top 5 of America 3 times each one in a diferent decade, Little Eva in the 60's #1, Grand Funk Railroad in the 70's #1 and Kylie Minogue in the 80's #3. This song is Great !!!!

  • prom nite 1974

  • I was just watching GhostRider (Nicholas Cage) to this song. It was funnier than I thought. XD

  • I Remember this song playing on the radio, but the original is way better!!

  • @6dark6wings6 A girl by herself just singing it is WAY better ? You must be from Canada.

  • This is well beyond being a guilty pleasure... this is a guilty SACRAMENT.

    Shine on, boogie children. :)

    <3

  • The best roller skating song ever....

  • Interesting to compare the live version to this Rundgren produced version. There's NO guitar in the song until the solo. It was SO radio friendly for the time. It was a huge hit on AM radio. I can hear why. Clapping, vocals, bass keyboard and some drums. Tribal.

  • is this song original by them?

  • @MegaSilverBlood

Written by Carole King, it was first a hit for Little Eva, Carole kings Babysitter. It went to number 1 in 1962. It was also a hit for Kylie Minogue. Grand Funks version was produced by Todd Rundgren

  • @dgunboats now i know, thanks.

  • @dgunboats I dont know if thats a typo u wrote-I mean, I believe u and everything, thats just some crazy shit.....Carole King's babysitter? Interesting...well, she WAS one talented songwriter after all, just never knew that

  • No other decade has produced as much good rock music as the 70's! This was PERFECT at the time of it's release! A lot of these comments must be by kids that weren't even living in the '70's! The '70's was also a mind set and this group read that very when releasing this song! It satisfied parents who were coming down hard on rock music yet it was still rock enough for most teenagers! We wore out two 45's at the Roller Rink where I helped with music selections!

  • @nikicfields

I was there, in the '70s. You are absolutely right. Now where did I put those Earth Shoes...

  • @Deathsiren you just got owned

  • オリジナルより好き

  • The locomotio!!!!!! woooooow

  • In comparison to early Grand Funk, this is shit

  • no other version has the beat this does..listen to it on 45 records....you won't be disappointed!

  • GRAND FUNK RAILROAD---"THE LOCO MOTION"

  • oh yeah totally

  • I remember when this came out and all the hard core GFR fans freakin' out saying the bans had gone soft. Never did understand that cause the guys ROCKED this song!!

  • @fairfax1960 That's because you're a poser.

  • @Deathsiren -Uhhh?? How the hell did you come up with that observation from my comment (or do you not know the meaning of the word poser?)

  • So sad, Using for Softbank's promotion in Japan

  • SMAPの曲だと勘違いさせるCMが流れていますよね (^^;;

    グランド・ファンク・レイルロード万歳!
