This song came on our radio at our school and our teacher started dancing and before i knew it we all were up dancing! we started doing the wave and i did a headstand. it was AWESOME!
No, I was talking baout this version, I didn't mean I was sure they had written it, just the version, I didn't know grand-Funk sounded like this. I've heard this tune many times, I actually thought it was a beach boys tunes to be honest.
@24SweetThing By the way, I'm glad you like this song. Our generation was great, wasn't it? People respected each other, kids respected their parents, graduated High School, and cared about people. I'm sorry, but it seems like today's young people don't care anymore. No offense to any of you young people who do. It's just the world has changed over the years, and not for the better :(
GOD BLESS YOU RENEE!!! YOU ARE A WONDERFUL PERSON :)
@1962drob Thx for sending this to me my friend. I also was in the generation that grew up with this killer song. And of course their from the great state of Michigan, my home. Ya gotta say one thing abt Michigan, theres alot of awesome musicians that were born and bred here. Must be all the water! LOL
@24SweetThing I remember the Summer of '74. I was 12 years old, and I always played this song loud when it came on the radio, and of course, later bought the single. Back then, I thought Grand Funk Railroad did the original lol. I do know they did the best version!!!
That Summer, Nixon "Resigned", Gerald Ford took over as President, and The Brady Bunch was cancelled :(
@24SweetThing Oh, of course!!! The 80s had some real cool Rock and of course, Heavy Metal!! And even the 90's had some good music. There are SOME good music today, but not a lot.
I live in a very small town, and I remember in first grade at our Winter concert our teachers taught all the kids grades k-2 how to do the locomotion and they played this version of the song in the background. It was awesome :)
Todd Rundgren walks in while the band is foolin' around with it...and he says "You know what? You guys should record that...it'll be a hit!" And the rest, as they say, is history...
Rundgren had well by that time been employing synthesizer, incorporating same in various instrument and sound - voice track. This guitar work, in no small part reflected that.
On a side note, one of Rundgren's most exceptional works was A Cappella where every single sound was 100% voice - nothing other than voice, no instruments whatsoever - and keyed via synthesizer to take on instrument character.
The guy's so off the charts, beyond Richter Scale. And still not in the R&R HO"F".
This song takes me back to a more innocent time when people could go to a school dance with their dates, and meet up with their friends! It's a great song, with a killer guitar solo as well! BobbyK
It sounds wonderful to hear that guitar solo with all the distortion! K-EARTH 101.1 never allows it, and so I switch off when it plays the edited version.
Agreed. This version of Locomotion was the first one I heard. Later on I heard the Little Eva version and then Kylie Minogue's version. They pale in comparison. GFR's version just sounds soooo huge. This is one of the rare cases where the cover blows the original away.
@xlted1 Yes, this is a cover. Little Eva did the original. However, I grew up with GFR's version. Never heard of Atomic Kitten...so no I have not heard that one.
@blitzshriek999 -Here's another fact about the Locomotion-"The Loco-Motion" was also the second song to reach #1 by two different musical acts. The earlier song to do this was "Go Away Little Girl," also written by Goffin and King. It is one of only nine songs to achieve this feat.-Yes that is all true about Carole Kings baby sitter-Eva Boyd(Little Eva)
I remember hearing this as a kid on the orig vinyl...me and my buddy used to dig this song....What a time it was...big fuckin cars....wild drinking nightclubs....and our fathers were both in the nightclub business...what a way to grow up. too much fun.

no...10 people...is the person who cut you off today, the person that spat in your pizza from pizza hut, and the person who found your 64GB ipad you forgot on that bench at the airport, and didn't attempt to return it to you, yeah. anyways great song! been looking for this version for many moons!
@impellernut They began as Grand Funk Railroad but then dropped the Railroad around 1972. Don't know if it was coincidence but as Grand Funk Railroad they had more success with their albums and as Grand Funk, from 1973-1975, they were better known for their hit singles.
@juanmosey This is the only song in the world that has been in the top 5 of America 3 times each one in a diferent decade, Little Eva in the 60's #1, Grand Funk Railroad in the 70's #1 and Kylie Minogue in the 80's #3. This song is Great !!!!

The '70's was also a mind set and this group read that very when releasing this song! It satisfied parents who were coming down hard on rock music yet it was still rock enough for most teenagers! We wore out two 45's at the Roller Rink where I helped with music selections!
