  • The cake was a lie! :)

  • @revenger1221 Cake jokes in 2011, jeez, get with the times, man.

  • @revenger1221 Yeh, the cake to an arrow to the knee...

  • lets face it, if joco ever has a perfect show. we can be pretty sure he lip synced it.

  • @rabidbunnies2 Then he has recently started lip syncing. :( Because all of his shows are perfect now.

  • @AlienTecA51 not really, just his old stuff. i saw him screw up Want You Gone like, 3 times

  • good thing im not a zero :P .-.

  • Depressingly accurate. :<

  • "Follow my heart, follow- oh shit" hahaha

  • Whn I first clicked on this, I thought it was a video about Mario.

  • I love the fact that the more he screws up the more the audience loves him. Its great!

  • The first verse sounds exactly like my senior prom experience. Dang it, JoCo!

  • @TheFuzzyBlanket Whimsical immaturity of gamers? Most people who call themselves "gamers" today only know Halo, Counter-Strike and Call of Duty. Those people are immature, but definitely not whimsical.

  • @MegaAstroFan18 I think he means true gamers who play a wide variety of games both video and board.

Playing just shooters doesn't make you a gamer it just makes you someone who likes to play soldier/space marine/generic good guy.

  • @KoreanMeatball Totally! I'm sick of all the FPS's now days. I'm not saying there bad, I'm just saying that too much of a good thing can make you real sick, real fast if you have too much of it. In this case it's all the FPS's.

  • @crosswire40 They've pretty much saturated the market with them. How can we have innovative games if they keep making the same ones over and over?

  • @KoreanMeatball I know, right?

  • @KoreanMeatball Why would they make a new kind of game?

These ones are selling well enough. Making a new kind of game would be a huge risk.

Is it so hard to realize that nobody really makes games for your enjoyment, but instead for money? Especially with all the piracy and such, it's not really worth it to take risks.

And it isn't like it's a new thing, game companies always rape every idea they get.

Of course, I wish that someone would take that risk.

  • No ferrets, no fun...

  • Adorable performance of a really good song. xD

  • friggin story of my life

  • best song ever

  • I wish i could have seen have seen this in person :/

  • Anyone notice it was filmed in 2009 but posted IN 2006...

  • @Daltron94 no, it was filmed in 2006

  • Ratings for this video (666 total). It should say "congratulations, you are the 666th visitor. You satanic bastard "

  • Can definitely relate to this song.

  • "Follow---NO! shit." xD

  • I'm gunna be performing this for my class sometime this semester. No one besides a select group of my friends know about Jonathan Coulton, so I hope I can get some converts. I love him, met him, and he is an AWESOME guy. JoCo is simply the best and my favourite musical performer ever. And I've seen and met BON JOVI.

  • this is the story of my life....

  • Seeing him on the 17th WOOT!

  • Im so happy i got to see him in seattle last summer, he screwed up in the middle of RE: Your Brains and everyone just shouted and he grinned and just kept playin

  • what the hell? why is there even a dislike button on here :/ this song rules

  • I love how he fucks up, swears, and then just rolls with it.

  • Jonathan should be a famous singer like that fucking devil worshiper Lady GaGa.

  • @thebigkevin Hes famous to geeks lol

  • @336forlife -_- i mean like on MTV and shit

  • @thebigkevin na that would reck the whole thing he has going its much better if he just keeps entertaining nerds

  • @thebigkevin JC's too good to be popular. If you can listen to popular music (other than Lady Gaga) without wanting to blow your brains out, than that means there's a rip in the space time continuum, and everything in all discovered and undiscovered dimensions will be sucked into a giant black hole bigger than your mother's vagina. So I'm kinda glad he's not that popular.

  • @Babkockdood what do you mean other thatn lady gaga like she's any different from today's popular music

  • @19CODYAS91 She is. At least I think so :P

  • @Babkockdood

so you're that shallow that you'd stop listening to a good artist JUST because they got popular?

see, my philosophy is that I listen to music I like.

but you know, i might be crazy.

  • @Extraabsorbant I wouldn't stop listening to something I like just because it's popular. I'm just generalizing that 90% of popular music is trash. And good music, like Jonathan Coulton, usually isn't that popular.

  • @thebigkevin - Devil Worshipers everywhere take offense to this statement, please don't lump her in with us. Geez.

  • Even when he screws up, he makes it funny and flows it into the song. He is a master of music. LONG LIVE COULTON!

  • If I had to choose one word to define him...

    Legend.

  • What i love about JC is he sounds exactly the same live as he does on his songs most singer sound shit live This guy diserves to go Far

  • I love how jonathan coultons vid are so good no trolls fuck with them

  • @flashywhistle Trolls - 0

    JoCo - 1

  • I like this dude hes a great artist. Influencing me. I almost want to start up my own carrier because of him...

  • this guy is amazing

  • 3:14 seconds! The ultimate nerd song.

  • @ERSorensen Wow. I would've never noticed that. That's freaking awesome!

  • This may be the only song he plays where he plays a G chord without using his thumb.

  • @DashCat9

    You are waaay too observant.

  • @ligerhunter5223 Maybe, but considering that I use these videos to help learn how to play Jonathan Coulton songs? That's probably something I'd notice. :)

  • I found him from WoW music videos and found his name in SpiffWorlds videos and loved the song now i know every song J Co has ever wrote

and to quote this song "Follow my hea- oh shit! Follow my" :D

  • lol, I loved when he messed up and was like "Oh shit"

  • hey, is up to us to make him famous so show his songs to your friends, relative and other people :)

    he deserves it.

  • 9 people missed the like button

  • love the part when he said oh shit Awesome

  • Awesome

  • JoCo is great because he captures a demographic that no one else comes close to. His songs are so great because they capture the socially awkwardness, intelligence and yes sometimes whimsical immaturity that makes up a lot of gamers today, JoCo is great because as I think as kidulthood28 was trying to say he saves geeks like me from going crazy if we have to listen to Lady GaGa one more time

  • @TheFuzzyBlanket I have to agree :D

  • @TheFuzzyBlanket you summed it up perfectly.

  • @TheFuzzyBlanket joco found a way to package and distribute the things all of us were already thinking and feeling. before i ever knew who he was, before i ever heard them; these songs were already the soundtrack of my life.

  • @TheFuzzyBlanket who forces u to listen to lady gaga?

  • @TheFuzzyBlanket look up tom lether it may not be the same but anything is better then lady gaga

  • @TheFuzzyBlanket *cies* somebody gets it! im so...soo...happy!

  • @TheFuzzyBlanket Exactly! I think I love you, good sir ;D

  • Why Just Why is this guy not as famouse as somone like lady gaga theres guys like this with actual talent but nooo we have to listen to lady gaga's peice of shit music Thumbs up if you think this guy should be FAMOUSE

  • @kidulthood28 wait wait wait did you just call Lady GaGa's "songs" actual SONGS??????? It's not a song it's a Mastershit

  • Jonathan Coulton is proof that creativity is not dead an America.

  • @almussalix in*

  • I love how the lighting makes it look like he has a santa beard.

  • I love his "Oh Shit" moments. On the Best Concert Ever DVD, he bungled one of the lyrics in Creepy Doll and kept going. There was one time, though, that he just started over.

Doesn't matter, I still love his work!

  • this song is like a parallel to my entire life

  • agreed

  • OMG, he can fuck up, and still play it off cool, man, i love this guy!

  • Its awesome how honest his music is, not to mention he isnt an artist thats sold out by lipsynching or going to crappy high up music producers and getting his voice mutilated by computerisation. Big thumbs up JoCo

  • Jonathan Coulton is one of the best Music Artist i've listening to.

  • Coulton's music really reminds me of They Might Be Giants. They've both got great catchy pop wonders. They're such fun to listen to.

  • @Fateruler it really does seem like it's related it to him. but doesn't he have a kid?

  • @saxhero26 Yeah he has a kid on Twitter he talks about her

  • honestly, this song is written very well, but it's his most depressing song... and it sounds like the song that has to do with him the most, which is kinda sad

hopefully some fame will change that :)

  • I own a bracelet that I wear everyday that says "What would JC do?"

    I'm an atheist. ;)

  • Nice XD and me too btw

  • JoCo, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. SO MUCH.

  • Love this song, would love to see Jonathan Coulton live :D

  • I'd go gay for him.

  • Indeed.

  • @EdgarRuskov i'de go gay for that guitar lo :D

  • dude, me too

  • @EdgarRuskov I would also go gay for him do not fear my friend.

  • @EdgarRuskov Agreed

  • @EdgarRuskov What sane guy wouldnt?

  • @EdgarRuskov we all would and i love that america has finally gotten to the point that homosexuality is more of a complement than an insult

  • @EdgarRuskov

    Who wouldnt?

  • @EdgarRuskov Second dat

  • @EdgarRuskov even lesbian would go for him :P

  • "Follow my heart, follo-OH SHIT"

  • Anyone know what effects he's pushing out of that guitar? If that's what it naturally sounds like, that's one of the best sounding instruments I've heard in a LONG time.

  • my thoughts exactly dude...Martin's usually aren't known for their electronics either...

If I can get a sound like this...i'll get that exact guitar...

  • @Fallrider

there are probably no effects, he uses Martin & Co. guitars, which ARE the best sounding instruments that you'll ever hear lol

  • It sounds to me like there's some chorus in there. Which is weird because in other live videos and on his DVD he seems to have a pretty dry signal.

  • Lol, there are quite a few brands that are better than Martin, but they are great guitars.

If there isn't chorus here i'd be surprised...

  • @dsghoul

I find Taylor guitars to be the best acoustic guitars. Though Martin's are a very easy second.

  • I agree with you on the guitars. There are other brands, but my heart will always lie with a Martin D-28.

  • This or "Your my moon" is my favorite songs of his.

  • great song dude u deserve like 40mil views.. great *crys*

  • Go JoCo, Go!

  • This is probably my favorite song of his.

  • I love how comfortable he is on stage and in front of people.

    :D

  • Thanks Gle3nn- just keep them coming. I love how you are getting Jonathan out to the wider world. I will probably never see him live (other hemisphere and all) but you bring him to us. Cheers mate.

  • lol @ stuff ups

  • only discovered this guy about a week ago, and he is bar far m favorate...... EVERYTHING!

  • same thing with me

  • Sounding amazing live!

  • Right close to the end, JoCo forgot the lyrics. Even if he made an error, the song is, and will always be, great.

  • "Sieg Heil, did you say that?"

  • The tiny mistake made it even more better. Is it wrong for a straight guy to fall completely in love with JoCo?

Its great to see that he enjoys being up on stage to. :)

  • Just because 250,000 people do it worldwide, -doesn't mean it's right -it means you're never alone -it should be tried at least once in your life

  • i am in love with him to and i am straight

  • 1:56 NO SHIT hehe great song!

  • what a legend tbh :)

  • gr8 song

  • It's guy like JoCo that make me pick up my acousitc guitar over my electric :)

  • that mistake was awsome!!! "oh shit" and he kept play smoothly. it was great

  • I've viewed this video so many times!! I know all the word to it lol

  • this song was really cool! i found it after listenin to code monkey which rocked!! NIce man

  • i really love the way your so called error converges with the song :D

it makes another nice thing in the song which i like in general : )

please try to repeat this error again becuase i really love the way it.... you get my idea...

  • Big Bad World One and I Crush Everything are my new favourite songs!

  • wow, this guy is scary good. wow. i regret that it took so long for me to find him.

    wow.

  • @XxWibsy24xX Same, this guys is freaking amazing!

  • @killakev504 This guy is freaking amazing* Typos ftw, lol.

  • nice new lyrics

  • *What if the best I can do is not enough, would it be better not to know?.*

My goodness, what a cruelly accurate thing, isn't it something we don't dare think about ourselves?. how can he say things like that out loud, for a living?. Would think the crowd should hate him for it, but humans are funny little twisted monkies, eh?.

    Such a good artist.

  • Hm. I swear I've heard part of this song somewhere before... like an ad or a TV show or something. Anyone know where this has been used commercially?

  • It can't be.

  • If he was credited for the song, then yes, it can be used in anything.

  • sounds fimiliar to me too.

  • hes the only guy that could mess up a song and all we do is laugh cause no matter what its still golden

  • haha yeah i know. every time i listen to this i just laugh to myself.. if i were on stage and did that.. jeers would ensue.

  • This is one of my favorites, its kind of sad, but it makes me feel somewhat good at the same time, weird, probably because we all know the stuff that this song is about.

  • i get what your saying, not many people can do what he does with music

  • hes awesome i love this song

  • hes amazing live

  • I love song, its srsly like my fave one :P

    Follow mah heart!-Doh shit!!

    XD

    ROCK ON JOCO

  • follow my heart follow my he-OH SHIT!! staying inside stayin in bed...

xD i laughed so hard right there lol

  • Ijust love how he does so funny songs with such deep meaning...

It's great.... This is one of my favorites

  • And I love his little mistakes in his performance. He keeps composure and still plays. He's great at how he catches them as well.

  • Yeah, a first class entertainer ;D

  • Wow,this is an amazing song. And he has got an amazing voice. Bravo Jonathan Coulton!

  • I love the fact people are still going on about a comment by an idiot calling this emo... Made 6 pages ago.

Just enjoy an awesome song and an awesome artist!!!

  • Anyway, I'm buying the 50 dollar thing-a-week collectors edition. I never pay for music because those bastards dont deserve it, but JoCo is Indi so I think he needs it.

  • Huh? I merely mentioned the fact that they have huge contracts and make millions of dollars, and in an interview with him he mentioned he only makes "slightly" more than what he did writing software. They already have millions of dollars, I wont give them any more.... I also got the 50 dollar thing-a-week collection, its awsome, I think I prefer most of the songs live though.

  • I agree with you. I don't respect other bands as much usually. But there are some good bands out there that are true. I think they're too artificial. They pretty up there songs too much. When I listen to Jon's they sound exactly like they do in live and for that I love him :D

  • i understand. any artist that says: if you stole it just pay for a message if can. is going to get the respect of every limewire addict, spammer, and hacker that has ever listened to him

  • Follow my heart, follow my--Oh shit!

  • Well yea Taco, I know that. I merely thought my definition was funnier. This is YouTube, we need no depth. I know the origin, its just the modern usage refers to what I stated before. We dont really refer to old meanings of words, we always imply modern. Like the word gay means happy, but modern usage is homosexual.

  • actually Finis, emo refers to an underground hardcore movement that occurred in the 80's. Its been twisted to describe a very different genre today.

  • This song sounds kind of John Mayer-y... without the ignorant political commentary and self-congratulating lyrics.

  • JoCo is not emo. Sometimes he plays with no emotion (for humor) but that doesn't make him emo.

  • WTF? Emo doesn't mean sad. It's short for EMOTIONAL! Jesus, why the fuck is everyone so fucking stereotypical about emo's?! Anyone who thinks it means sad, depressed, e.t.c. is a fucking moron. Emo. EMOtional. READ THE WORDS, PEOPLE!

  • Actually, emo stands for emotive, a genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5ths of the face at an angle. Jonathan Coulton has none of these.

  • HEH!

  • No, you're wrong. Emotional is emotional, emo evolved into something different. FinisEnInfinito has it right.

  • do u have a recorded version not a live version

  • If you go to his site, he was nice enough to leave all the thing a weeks up, where you can download them.

  • wats da websight?

  • One of my favorites of JoCo's. <3

  • fucking a Jonathan Coulton is badass. i hope he's still good once he goes mainstream.
