It's a READING device. With primary purpose of READING not watching beautiful graphics or video. If you see it under direct sunlight you'll understand why some people are sure eink screen is better than LCD for the purpose. Actually there are still some people in this world which are reading books and don't want to be distracted when doing so with the multitude of other applications on the device they use. They just want to READ in the best possible way.
I don't know why I didn't notice this before. The refresh on the animation seems fairly quick however the screen refresh is as sluggish as the Kindle. How?
The main value of e-link is that it dose not emit light, which means that you can read it long before your eyes feel tired. This is a great news for people who need to sit in front of computer for a long time. I hope we can have it in a larger size and use it as a monitor in a short time.
Haha! Love to see all of the morons here thinking this is some e-book reader going to market.
Hey, morons, this is just a prototype showing off the display. The company that makes this display is the same company that makes the displays for the Kindle and Sony readers.
I just dislike the way the pages switch, that flickering even annoys me when I see it on video, how would it be on a big device in front of my nose?
I prefer reading my epub ebooks on a dell axim 51v, gives me about 8 hours reading time and takes about an hour to recharge, the small display isn't a problem, as epub solves that.
@flarbton this comment makes absolutely no sense... the point is that their screen background looks whiter than previous models... you cannot compare to non-E-Ink displays.. because non-E-ink displays are inferior for reading books (novels)... who cares what the specs are on another display if it is has a backlight and the text is not as sharp. E-Ink displays don't tire your eyes like an LCD would... in fact they are better than regular books because you can adjust font size.
If this is the new generation of Kindle and Nook eInk, color me unimpressed. If they don't pull out Color eInk this year, then the war would be already lost in 2011 and nobody would care about those devices. Without eReaders, eInk is pretty much doomed to be niche technology as of itself.
@apoapostolov Color is on its way, Sri didn't have any samples with him, just a photo on his phone, which the PR was supposed to send me but didn't. It won't be full color by the way, but it will be color.
@apoapostolov what are you joking, since when do people who want to read books looking for color, it would definitely be a bonus, I've read hundreds and hundred of books and articles on my ebook reader, plus i can check my email for free

does it work in the dark?
TheCivilEngineer22 1 year ago
@TheCivilEngineer22 Yes, you just need a light source to see it as it's not back lit like an LCD screen is. :-)

Behind the rest of the market much? That thing looks like a piece of shit compared to the Kindle or iPad...
sBissell123 1 year ago
not very impressed. I've owned and read from a kindle 1, kindle DX, nook, and ipad.
to be honest i think the whole e-ink superiority to lcd thing is waaaay overblown.
i read from my ipad for hours and hours at a time and i don't have any problems with it.
when e-ink gets color then i will be impressed!
