@maxi1crawf lt is indeed a quickstep. A civilised dance from a civilised era where you had to learn to dance properly and where men and women actually held each other. Nowadays no one meets that criteria anymore...So sad.
@crankbv1 Well I am glad to tell you that I am taking dancing lessons (Ballroom) and one of them is indeed the Quickstep, there is no messing about and we do hold each other (do it right or don't bother is my attitude) we will never be Fred and Ginger but it's worth trying ;-)
This is a lovely version of the track, it captures the essence of the 1930's so perfectly, even better, dare I say than Fred and Ginger's film version. British 30's music has such a unique essence of the decade!
Same over here. For exceptional recordings this may be perfect, but for average copies those are very high prices, definitely a lot higher than in the US it seems.
Wonderful Harry Roy - this was the era I was born into but it was only postwar that I could visit the Mayfair - alas no Harry Roy - but as a young man Arrow shirts and collars were de rigeur!
Great piano solo, and I love it when there are contramelodies going on together...superb. I also love the 1-2 beep beeps of the horns..very canny!! Just an overall fantastic arrangement...thanks so very much for sharing!!
Ah, I remember that night at the Continental (from some time before I was born!) So elegant, like the music itself. But who's that man with the oddly shaped nose?
The pic of Harry Roy has me convinced that he is Joel Gray's father. Great rendition.

Yes, I thought he looked like Joel Grey as well. Maybe that's who Joel copied for his role in Cabaret.

That's not a very fortunate situation is it; but I guess and hope it will eventually reach a new balance.

A fantastic price for copies in mint condition like this!

Amazingly richly textured orchestral arrangement. It seems the Ljubljana copy was in excellent shape, it sounds like new!

I'm enjoying the elegant version of this tune and the illustrations exuding aristocratic luxury. A glass of Taittinger champagne would be nice now.

What a great arrangement. It may be my favorite version.
