It was harder than imagined but what an great experience we were able to be part of. It came together better than I could of ever imagined.....Great to share with my kids. Thanks BA

  • @lakepowellrox Wow that woulda have been amazing experience for you

  • Aerolíneas Argentinas! (:

  • GOOD LUCK IN 2012 MY DEAR BRITISH AIRWAYS.....

  • 28 people must fly with Easyjet or Ryanair.

  • carmen?

  • the best commercial on earth ever did....

  • i got goosebump watching the old BA commercial. Its spectacular and amazing. I remember watching it(in HK) in Chinese and it still sticks into my head after 20 plus years. The past good time 80s had gone. 80s and 90s is the best time i reckon of everything. Now i havent come across such commerical like this. Even the cigarette commerical i remember i watched esp Malborough with cowboy on the horse that particular ad. Still inside my head.

  • British Airways is not only the world's favourite Airline, but also the worlds richest airline. Long live BA.

  • is that Tom Conti's voice

  • @firsthuma Yes

  • anyone know the name of the background music?

  • @jennybil It's called 'The Flower Duet' from the opera 'Lakme'

  • Thanks whomever posted this it took me back ring childhood when we only had 1 national tv station :-)

  • Yeah I remembered this commercial when I was around 4 or 5, the thing I remembered most was the music, it very calming

  • This was a great commercial, I remember it from when I was younger. Never flew the airline but would like to. I'm sure they have a good flight!

  • BRITISH AIRWAYS...GO BACK TO THE TOP IN 2012...U DESERVE IT...I LOVE U....AND I WISH U THE BEST.

  • i saw this video when i was 11 yrs old in 1994. from last couple of years was looking for this video and surprisingly discovered it.watching this video instantly took me to my childhood when there was just a single national channel in our country and watching it on our black and white television set.the experience of watching it again can't be expressed in words.thanks kjetzer!

  • compare, perhaps by watching british airways adverts in reverse chronological order

  • i remember getting carried up to the cockpit via aer lingus, pilot placing cap on head and telling me how the plane flies on auto pilot whilst they ate their sandwhich and gave me a junior flyer badge, times were so good, what has happened? i hate (which i never did before) bbut i hate muslim faith

  • Why is there NO PHONE NUMBER and why can't we talk to a live person at British Airways Refunds North America, Jamaica, NY when they owe us on a ticket refund?

  • This is the airline that landed the following year in Kuwait two hours after the Iraq invasion in order to land British undercover military operatives, risking the lives of over 350 passengers.

The same airline whose senior management threatened a British HIV positive passenger with arrest unless he left the relative security of the transit hotel in Kuwait to report to an Iraqi controlled hospital.

  • @4941acAc Good they should have shot him dead instead!

  • I love this commercial. In an attempt to find Yanni's Aria (the background song) I found so many other songs of his. I've probably heard (and have) all of his music and he's my favorite musician :)

  • what happened to the ear?

  • @vanillafrapp73 got amputated

  • an amazing ad

  • What has that commercial got 2 do with British Airways?????????????

No offence people who created that commercial i just dont c the point

  • @BabyOmie1234 Its a good ad, would attract attention but I'm with you, why would they dress up in giant coloured condoms for an airline advert....

  • British Airways don't let you in the cockpit, i flew with ryanair a few weeks ago and they let me up in the cockpit in dublin

  • And now we have Ryanair.

    And we've lost Concorde.

    Is that really progress?

  • @oldmanc2 Best post on Youtube.

  • @oldmanc2 Low cost carriers certainly ruined the aviation industry!

  • @oldmanc2

no, in fact, its a step backwards. if i wanted to pay 30 pounds to go from london to paris and be cramped, insulted, shown ads about stuff i don't care about, and then be charged 130 pounds for a carryon and a suitcase, i'd take the bus, it would be cheaper too.

  • WHO SANG THE VOCALS?!?!?!!? >.<

  • @oPeRa1923 It's Yanni's Aria ;)

  • An unmistakeably British, Advert. 10/10. I think BA should redo this advert, just to so it looks more 2011 than 1989. Makes it more relevant for the modern day audience. I'm sure it would boost BA's sales.

  • HAPPY VALENTINE,S DAY TO YOU BRITISH AIRWAYS....GOOD LUCK.I LUV UXXXX

  • i think this commercial is a real class act

  • This commerical ran in 1990. Best BA had Sachi and Sachi create !

  • the best video of british airways....extremely well done and it looks extremely real...typically britishxxxxx

  • @GERMANLOVER7000 It WAS real - hundreds of people held large coloured cards to achieve the smile and the wink. This is 1989 - pre-good CGI.

  • @TheMightyHartley let,s hope that b.a will go back to the top like it used to be...

  • @GERMANLOVER7000 I hope so too :)

  • I love the jet sound at the end !

  • A stunning piece of work. Probably one of the best adverts ever and it is one of the fewthings that still makes me proud to be British.... even if Lord King was not one of my favourite people. Why didn't Branson get concorde? thats what I want to know.

  • the best video ever did by british airways...the world,s favourite airlinexxxxxx

  • I collect anything relating to British Airways and will pay whatever,if you have anything please contact me on AHIDEYNEILFISHER AT HOTMAIL DOT CO DOT UK ,i can't put my email address in the regular form,as youtube don't allow this, but you can can understand my email address,i hope.

  • "Aria" also sung by "Monalisa Young"

  • Commercial sung by "Monalisa Young"

"Aria" as it's called on the "Dare To Dream" album by Yanni

  • British Airways.....Best in the World

    British Adverts......Best in the World

    British People......Best in the World.

    Enough said !

  • @grooverheliboy

Did you do know that this advert was filmed in Utah using hundreds of locals to make the face parts? And you do realise the music is by the French composer Delibes, right? And that the Saatchi brothers, whose firm Saatchi and Saatchi made this add, were born into a family of Iraqi Jews in Baghdad? And that the firm is now headquartered in Paris? Just checking.

  • @boxer0blake And the point of ur reply is what ??

  • @grooverheliboy

    What is 'ur'?

  • @boxer0blake sozz u being so old u woodnt understand !!

  • @grooverheliboy

What? You seem to be slipping from English into some other language.

  • @boxer0blake GO AWAY YOU ARE BORING ME !!

    DO YOU UNDESTAND THAT ??

  • @grooverheliboy

Ah, you DO know some English. Very good. So, what was it you wanted to ask me? (I think I've got to the bottom of the 'ur' issue; Ur was a city in ancient Sumer - in what is today Iraq. Were you asking something about the Saatchi brothers?)

  • Best Airline ever!!!!! Love you British Airways!!!!

  • the best ad of british airways of ever....british airways the world,s favourite airline for everxxxx

  • I live in Singapore and I still remember this brit commercial so well.I was still in my teens then. Simple but well-made commercial as it delivered the message it wanted to, that is "serving people all over the world, with a smile". The music was well-chosen. I like the visual and the music put together.

  • british airways will remain the world,s favourite airline no matter what...

  • I'll be in UK in 1st of oct for the first time to europe.

I heard alot of the UK nation. I'm expecting a good time there.

    see ya.

  • @plskelzag "I heard alot of the UK nation." UK nation ??

  • @supercreamysperm

I like and respect the UK people. I hope i was not mistaking by saying " nation " instead of " people ", anyway, I found london beter than what I heard about.

    Regards.

  • is it true that british airways suck????????

  • no i no im british but united airlines is the best

  • i think the ear got lost. i wonder if it's still wandering around somewhere...

  • I just noticed. The music is Yani's "Aria."

  • Bloody hell.

It was great then but FOR GODS SAKE nowadays they don't let the kids to look up the cockpit - I mean fair enough... But do they still pass the nice bowl of sweets around the plane nowadays? Or are too many people BUSY on their iPhones and Laptops so they don't HAVE A CLUE where the fuck they are.

Fuck me times have got worse. Think about it... 1989 - maybe because I was young... but that year was better than 2009. Fucking too many iPhones for their own good.

  • @Doomsday2060 Absolutely true, definately!

  • @Doomsday2060 They still pass the sweets around, but after Osama bin Laden ruined it all for us, no-one's allowed in the cockpit anymore for fear of a Hijack!

  • @Tecwhizz Ive been on a flight in 2009 where they left the cockpit open

  • @lolatmyaccounts But did they let you go in? That's the difference!

  • @Tecwhizz Probably not, I didnt see.

But they still left the cockpit open which was unusual.

  • @Doomsday2060 damn straight lad!

  • is british airways british

  • How about saving the workforce in order to save the companies not just the few customers who can afford to fly BA. They ruined Laker, they tried to ruin Branson so that they could continually fix prices and screw the public.

  • the worst airline , fly virgin for god sake.

  • It's a wonderful advert but it does not sell. I know why.

  • British airways have ruined it for themselves..much better carriers out there now at a much better price!

  • every body! this song was also featured on the 1995 ford galaxy advert, another advert that should be watched, if you want to see the ford galaxy advert, type in on youtube 1995 ford galaxy advert, its the 4th vid down, when you have seen it, plz tell me what you think.

  • they need to bring back the concorde fucking jet

  • BA are the biggest crap on the world! The male flight attendats are homosexuals!

  • @nikispasov46 well most air stewards are gay if you didnt realise that

  • @nikispasov46 if you were flying with air france, you would be already dead....and with BA ur sodomised...make up your mind....

  • @bobduvar Sorry.Never flew with Air France.BA and Cathay Pacific are gayyyyyyyyy

  • @nikispasov46

    i'm not!

  • @sorrysuki Of course

  • RIP Malcolm McLaren.

  • I HOPE THAT BRITISH AIRWAYS WILL SURVIVE AND WILL GETTO THE TOP SOON.

  • @GERMANLOVER7000 concorde is the answer. bring those girls back to life and they would be a leader again.

  • @dubkat oh man...concorde..it had cost billion to british airways to lunch that aircraft...as a plane lover....i understand why u want back that extremely fast aircraft...me too...i can stand the idea that no commercial aircraft fly at the speed pf 1.500 km/h in 2010...even my favourite aircraft...which is the airbus a 380..is not enought fast enought...espicallly..the long haul flight...so i hope in 2011...a new fast aircarft will be lauch in the market....

  • Background song is an adaptation of Lakme by Malcom McLaren.

  • @yachtno1 An adaption of Lakmé by Malcom Mclaren? BWAHAHAHAHA..... you think?

"Lakmé is an opera in three acts by Léo Delibes to a French libretto by Edmond Gondinet and Philippe Gille, based on the 1880 novel Rarahu ou Le Mariage de Loti by Pierre Loti."

The music is the Flower Duet in the first act. ;o)

  • LABOUR??? Bankrupt england don't make me laugh ... MORE like the TORRIES Messed england upp BIG TIMEE

  • British Airways...never again. Awful company. Give me KLM and Lufthansa anytime, but those cunts from BA can rot in hell. O by the way, I'm boycotting Londonistan too. Security is crazy over there.

  • What is name of the background song?

  • @wingningtsuen Aria....

  • @wingningtsuen flower duet.

  • Willie Walsh out!

  • good old B.A. for giving lakme some air time and giving the Madrigal global exposure.Bad B.P. for spilling oil on our American cousins.Oh well C'est la vie

  • I was searching for this commercial since years...awesome!!!

  • lol, i loved this commercial when i was a little kid.

  • RIP Malcolm McLaren

I love your "Individuality" always being on the cutting edge...

    of just about everything

and your gift of bringing together the most unlikely music .....

    Madame Butterfly....Carmen's Habanera....Deep in Vogue

Aria on Air... and Paris Paris

are just a few of my favorite songs ....

    You will be missed ...

  • @2010strike. Where do you get your evidence from. If the evidence presented by the CAA and published a such was incorrect, and bearing in mind the CAA figures were published some months ago, do you really think that your information is better.

    Pull the other one.

  • (1) Sorry to disappoint you union lemmings but I do not read the Daily Mail, nor any other tabloid for that matter.

There is a small matter of economic reality here. It applies as much to BA, or any other business. Operate with costs that are too high and which your clients are not prepared to pay and liquidation will be the ultimate fate. It is the duty of management to ensure that this does not happen.

  • JeffFacer this pay comparison is not valid as you have taken the whole of the army average compared to just one branch of BA. the army av is greatly increased by generals on £100k+ p.a.I would have thought that cabin crew at BA are probably in a lower pay band/grade so a fairer comparison would be cabin crew av against av for a junior rank after 2 or 3 yrs service.

  • BA are like so many British businesses.

Egotistical, old fashioned, and built on total greed.

BA charges 40% more than Emirates, and offers a much worse service. And they wonder why they struggle!?

    Total and utter greed.

To all you daily mail readers. There is only 1 reason why they want to lay off staff over the next 2 years.

BA are planning a takeover of Iberia Airways in 2012. And need to make savings to afford it.

    Yes. They are really struggling...........

  • Unite behaving like lemmings. Do they serously think that the public will support them. Everyone is facing a squeeze in the current economic conditions but they seem to think that it must not apply to them.

    Selfish idiots.

  • Ricky

BA are cutting staff as they plan to merge with Iberia in 2012, and need to start laying people off for this to be able to happen.

Too many cabin crew, with both companies.

All this talk about BA losing money is rubbish by Walsh.

Losing so much money that they plan to take over Iberia in 18 months time........sure.

Fat cats always use the media to blame unions. When it's just rich people trying to get richer

  • @RickyCafe

Sorry to break this to you daily mail readers, but BA want to take over Iberia Airlines in 2012.

That's why they are cost cutting. That's why they want to cut staff.

Cabin Crew earn something like £12k a year for their 35 hour a week contract. They have to do 20 hours overtime a week on top of that to even make 20k a year.

BA is just colonial fat cats. Here's praying they go out of business.

  • @MrCeej9999

For those of you wishing the demise of BA; I suggest you do your research a little better. For who is it that loses out when a company goes to the wall? Their Management? Their workforce? The Taxpayer? Time and again it is the workforce and the taxpayer who lose out. So be careful what you wish for and on whom you wish the consequences.

  • @MrCeej9999

Data from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) shows for the first time how much higher BAs wage costs are than its rivals. The average salary for BAs 14,000 cabin crew, including bonuses and allowances, is £29,900, compared with £14,400 at Virgin Atlantic and £20,200 at easyJet.

  • @RickyCafe Where on Earth do you think that the CAA get their figures from? They get them from BA! Why don't you research the facts before slagging off hard working family members? Or are you simply just jealous because you made the wrong career choice?

Why don't you slag off the Executives of BA who awarded themselves £3million in shares just 1 DAY before the strike action? Hardly an airline in crisis is it?

  • Comment removed

  • How the cabin crew can say they are working in poor conditions is beyond me . Poor conditions could be ascribed to those working in extremely hot/cold,dirty, stressful environments i struggle to see how being cabin crew could be any of those.I also doubt they earn as little as our troops in afghan or our underpaid nurses that cannot go on strike . I have no sympathy for the BA cabin crew. I am also disturbed that taxpayers money -around £18m has gone to help their selfish cause.

  • Grant

Do you know how much Cabin Crew earn? Something like £12k a year. They have to do huge amounts of over time (60 hour weeks) even to get up to 18k a year.

The average nurse wage is £24k a year. Average army wage, including allowances is about £25k a year.

BA is a dinosaur. That treats it's staff awfully. It deserves to go out of business.

  • if you are not in a union, you have no voice

  • Hopefully ba can get it sorted! that trade union should have a go at being self employed or in the armed forces and see how well their strike action goes down! arseholes

  • @grant2052 when you are employed, if you are not in a union, then you have no voice. It's strength in numbers. If you want to be employed on the minimum wage, or work in poor conditions, you don't have to join.

  • ryanair

  • Priced themselves out of business whos going to pay 3 times the price for a seat you can get cheaper on many other airlines.Just ANOTHER British institution Ripping people off. The old school tie is a little tattered

  • here here

  • A great British Icon being destroyed by a Militant trade union. Its disgusting to see the Unite Union holding an entire country to ransom; they aren't defending British jobs, their destroying them. You can't deny the financial realities of life; Unite is taking British Airways over the edge of a cliff. Willie Walsh has my full support; I hope he succeeds in putting BA on a sustainable path.

  • @cloud3941 I totally agree my old man flew for BA for over 20 years. The airline is being destroyed, by unite, the crew and the media. So sad really :(

  • Comment removed

  • @cloud3941 well wherever there are indian workers..it is inevitable it will go downhill unfortunately.

  • Comment removed

  • @dionsanchez24 You really don't know much about the situation at BA do you?

  • @yachtno1 no, what is the situation plz tell.

  • @cloud3941 Thats right! Pay cuts that we'll never get back! Race you to the bottom!!!

  • @cloud3941 you don't know what you're talking about.

  • @cloud3941 Please dont talk such nonsense. Those cabin crew have every right to strike and Willy had noo right to take away extra perks, that was completely illegal. He was made many alternative offers which he refused. We shouldnt all have to take pay cuts to pay for the mistakes of private sector millionaires. Learn your facts

  • @gobton The crew had every right to strike for what they believe , the cuts were necessary because of rising fuel costs etc not because of a management mistake , these are hard times if you hadn't noticed. The staff travel is a privilege of the job and not a right and the airline can withdraw it any time, the crew knew this before striking and don't like the consequences ! They can't believe the management actually did it !Striking does nothing to help the airlines mounting losses.

  • @eponnee Of course it doesnt help the losses, that is the point of the strike, to make the airline realise that cutting people's jobs in such a cruel manner is not the way forward. I am sure there are some big cheques at the top that could be cut. Unless you are happy for the poorer workers in the airline to loose jobs, families homes etc!

  • @eponnee I guess that reveals a lot about you as a person. It doesnt matter whether the perks are a privilege or not, they become assumed as a right by law and there is a case for discrimination. I can lend you some information on employment law should yo8u so require it

  • @cloud3941 it is not a pay cut that has caused the strike (crew worked for free to save the airline from goin inder last year ) Its because of the constant bullying and minipulation of hard working crew .! Its all Waslhes fault !! He did they same at Aer Lingus and while he was in charge there - what do ya know STRIKE. It seems to be his attutide i dont know! But he is an autocratic boss which is the reasons for the industrial dispute !!

  • @Locker10a

I have family and friends who are/were Flight crew and Cabin crew for BA (as stated above my father was a BA skipper too). I am flight crew (FO) for a different major airline and though I get paid, in my opinion, very well I currently earn less than a lot of the senior long haul BA cabin crew which is frankly ludicrous when you consider I have a much more important and responsible position. A BA CSD I know was offered a cash payout but refused, like many. To much of a good a thing

  • @djbuknard So you say Some are paid wery High but they are a very small minoity ! Besides the strikes were never about pay !! Even if some of the cbin crew are in the wrong and are militant or un open to change i know from Aer Lingus what Willie Walshe is like and i know he is partly yo blame! I dont care what anyone says i know thats a fact

  • The ear never appeared at the end?

Are you telling me that the producer left them and they are still walking about 21 years later?

  • Alors... As tu aimé Marie?? Cette pub est exceptionnelle, tellement bien faite, elle représente tout ce que le Hommes avec un grand "H" devrait être... tolérant, la découverte de l'Homme... Je t'embrasse... BIZ

  • Love this commercial it is fantastic and love this piece of music to go with it great

  • What is the opera piece that the singer is singing? Is it "Water Lilies"?

  • I think it's Lakme by Leo Delibes and it is the Flower Duet. This version with the help of Malcolm McLaren is nothing short of amazing.

  • this is "aria" by yanni. in fact the song's inspired by "flower duet", as you can hear "aria" has borrowed the motif of the latter. you can search "aria" and "yanni" on youtube. :D

  • British Airways is the best.

  • Banning workers from wearing a cross is it? christian country isn't it? gettin away with it in court is it? must have been an expensive pay off was it? funny how they are ALLOWED to stand in OUR streets and chant DEATH to the people in this country, not to menchion all the fucking times there again ALLOWED to praise allah in OUR STREETS, and we cant wear a cross hhmmmm THERE WILL BE FUCKING MURDERS !!!!!!!

  • This is the reason that the heart of British Airways beats. Its a love affair.

  • it was a mouth...

  • it was an ear... at 0:18

    have another look

  • One of my favorite commercials of all time.

  • ...and whilst the tag line 'The World's Favourite Airline' may clearly not be true, boy-oh-boy there must be a lot of airlines out there that kick themselves for not thinging that one up first!

  • lol easyjets is The Internets Favourite Airline LOL :D
