You have the microphone clipped near your stomach. This is a omni directional condenser microphone and should be no more than 6-10 inches depending on specific product.
it's got like a 25 ft. cord and for about 25 bucks it's a cheap alternative to most expensive wireless lavalier mics. perfect for someone who is sitting in one spot the whole time.

Yes, true. Actually, closer is better for voice. I use my condenser at no more than 6 inches away.
