Don't get me wrong when I say this: It's very nice that DreamWorks is getting further and further away from pop-cultural references in SOME of their movies (note emphasis on "some"). But movies like this prove that they're not necessarily a bad thing. It's like drama in kids films; while when excessive it becomes a huge pet peeve, it's not a bad thing as long as it's done right and maintains a relatively light tone. In other words, moderation is key.

That said, 'Shrek' freakin' rocks. :)

Look, no company's perfect. They've all got their good and bad movies. More accurately, though, they've all got movies with different target audiences, where one movie may appeal more to a certain demographic while another to a different. Where 'Up' is more for the people at the Oscars, my kids prefer 'How to Train Your Dragon'. Where 'Kung Fu Panda' is family-friendly fun, I'll go see 'Rango' without bringing the kids.

What I didn't understand was the whole 'Fiona kissing Farquaad' thing. She said the spell will be broken if she kisses her true love. Would he really be her true love? No, Shrek is, right? Then why didn't the spell break? She turned into an Ogre, which just leaves things permanent. I didn't really understand.

I know this is for kids, but I love this though I'm 32. My children and I used to pretend to be one of the characters of Shrek. I've been Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona and Lord Farquaad. I know it's childish, but sometimes you need that in life. My children are older now, so we stopped doing that. I guess they've outgrown me mentally, just kidding. ;-D

Good Box Office returns does not mean its a good movie.

Transformers 2 is a box-office record breaker but is one of the worst reviewed films of last year. Making lots of money does not mean it was a good film and Shrek the Third pales in comparison to the first.
