  • woulda been cool to make the deleted blackout scenes just dream sequence, I'm so glad they didnt do the psychic link think though

  • The blackouts were never explained in the game itself, am I right? Including the deleted blackout scenes would have still made it difficult to figure out the metaphors, but it would have at least gotten rid of that plot hole.

  • Honestly, the blackout scenes could have been included. If they didn't care for the "special connection between Ethan and Shelby", and instead made it something more realistic, like...Ethan reading about the origami killer in the newspaper, and having weird dream like sequences in his blackouts. There, no "special paranormal" bond, just something he had read up on newspapers that stayed with him.

    Makes sense, no?

  • the Iraq one with Madison could make sense. isn't it that one of the ways you could develop insomnia is if you travel from timezone to timezone? coz I have a sis in the military that travels a lot and she had developed it...

  • how did u get this?

  • I don't really care about any of these scenes, but the blackouts and Madison's insomnia are never explained, like how they added the letter to Father and Son. Funnily, I always thought that Shelby DID kill him mother when you see he lifeless while he watches.

  • @MrRudiMentary

yeah me too, I even thought you could hear the device beeping like she was dead, Must have been mistaken.

  • AH, So that was why plot hole!

  • Imagine how good this game would've been if it didn't have that plot hole which is explained here.

  • 1. Blackouts HAD to be kept in. The game makes no sense without them

    2. Had to explain the connection with the killer and Ethan IN THE GAME

    3. The Scott scene is okay to take out.

    4. Shaun goes to school scene would have shown how time changed

    5. We didnt need the Madison explanation but would ave been nice.

  • 4:25 It's from Heavy Rain: The Taxidermist.

  • But... why can she only sleep in a hotel? o-o

  • @Timbolino222 I think they included that idea after they scrapped the concept of why she was an insomniac.

  • @Timbolino222 In order to stop her from insomnia is to sleep in the motel.

  • @Timbolino222

maybe she didnt feel save in her old house anymore?

  • No the seans u cut out wood have made it more better and give us a more in depth felling to the 4 protagonists

  • Aha, so Maddison wasn't just this female character put in the game to 1)get naked 2)make out with the main character 3)Get sexually harassed by and old dude 4)Get sexually harassed by some other dude 5)strip in a nightclub/get naked again 6)Go to happy ending and make out with main character again for the rest of her life.

    Huh... I see...

  • @shinluis what do u see?

  • I noticed a few gaps inbetween the storyline for Ethan... I understand why he was having blackouts at first but - depending on the ending you got... how did you know the blackout were/were not related at all? If they would have kept the reasoning behind the blackouts (common link with Shelby) then the player can be confident that he'd be cured. Nice edits but keeping Madison's story would have been nice. BTW if it was me - Shaun wouldn't have been late to school. xD

  • Oh Come on! The scenes should of been in the game (Except for Tubs killing his mom)

  • So that's why...I love this game.

  • @lovelylynn25 I agree with you is one of the best games ever created

  • I just wish that they kept all of those deleted scenes including the iraq war scenes of madison past, that would be much adding to her character. She's the most unexplained character in Heavy Rain... which is a shame...

    Why?! why MOVE??? WHY?!?!?!!!

  • Spoiler hits you hard bro !

  • I dunno, but a large part of me says that i prefer these (except motherkiller shelby) more than the gaping plotholes we have in the game. AT least release these as DLC!

  • Poor Miss Shepherd killed by his own son i'm glad they deleted that scene

  • Quantic Dream should finish up with what they were going with Madison's journalism research and insomnia, include the rest of the deleted scenes (except for the one where Shelby kills his mother, they could make that optional). And release it as a Heavy Rain: Director's Cut version.

  • I love the idea for the blackouts, but they give a great reason for taking it out. I'm glad they took out the Madison scene; I wasn't much of a fan of Madison.

  • Ethan's blackouts should have stayed. Not only would they have been fun and interesting, the removal of them just created an unfinished/abandoned plot in the game. Madison's scenes would have been fun to play too. Maybe if they ever pick up the Heavy Rain Chronicles again they could put in some of this stuff.

Btw, that narrator sounds like the voice of Lucas from Fahrenheit.

  • Sounds like a better version of the game.

  • You could have included Madison's background. Her being overly sexual and her insomnia made her a little suspicious to me. I think making this information about her more clear could have affected my interactions with her. I'd totally start a new life with a war correspondent but just some hot chick intrigued by danger... idk.

  • beat the game in 2 days. just decided to give it a try after the video by Smoove. good game. only play it once though. I'll look on youtube for the other endings

  • There's a difference between movies and games. Movies generally have to be short, while games can be long. It doesn't matter if the deleted scenes had made the story longer, or more complex, because had they been in there, they would have made sense. (Of course, I'm talking about the blackouts and Madison. Scott kiling his mom was better left out, as was the school thing.)

  • They should have kept Ethan's blackouts and Madison's work in there. It would have made the game even more interesting I would think.

  • In my view I woulda kept the madisons side (The American Tribune thing, the Iraq conflict) and Ethan's blackouts.

  • While it's good that anything close to paranormal was removed, that David Cage once again considered it is unforgivable.

That he then left the connected content in due to laziness, no other reason, and included the paranormalish technology (ARI, mind-reading MRI), is bad.

  • they never explained why they took out all the stuff about Madison and the flashback to Irac or the thing with painting house or visiting the place she works at

  • I admit I agree it was good they didn't have him kill his mother, but I don't agree that they took out the Water thing.

  • un jeu super et en plus créer par des français alors !!!

  • wow... if only they'd kept those parts in :( Would have made the game EVEN better than it already is! Ah well at least some things were explained :)

  • Okay so does anyone besides me really want to play the blackout levels? That looks like an awesome to play and could you imagine what Ethan was thinking during those scenes?? Too bad they didn't add it in the game... :(

  • wow the sound made by the first kid found underwater is really creepy.

  • This why we don't let French People make visual novels. They'll hype it up like fuck, write an incredibly great plot, put in-depth characterization, have a consistent story with no holes, rush it, and therefore remove everything that was going to be great. So, FF XIII-3: Quebec edition.

  • @LeoJohnGalt Four scenes = everything that's great in the game? And I'm not even going to get started on the racism...

  • @Veyneru You have to admit that the freaking underwater thing would've been nice to patch up the whole thing at the beginning. Not to mention a reason for Madison's insomnia and crap. Mind you, I wouldn't be so buttmad if they just added those 2 things as DLC, but they don't seem to be working on the game anymore, so yeah. I'm still a bit fuming.

  • @LeoJohnGalt It would've been better, but it's absense doesn't really ruin the game. The DLC for Heavy rain has apparently been put on hiatus due to other projects, from what I heard.

  • @Veyneru Okay, fine. I'm just over-reacting then. I just see it as a decent game, and I tend to bring those up when people give it more credit than it earned. Also, is that Matthew Patel as your avatar pic?

  • @LeoJohnGalt Yeah, it is.

  • terminator did these visions, and it was sci-fi not paranormal, couldve still fitted it in.

  • Madison Paige: She's covered wars, you know

  • I really wish they continued with the DLC, because this game deserves so much more. On the other hand, I did play through the game with the Move and it was pretty freaking awesome. I felt it added a lot to the immersion.

  • @DrawlNeedler me too . it felt much more precise and natural in my hand comparing to shaking the whole controller . as much as i dont like motion control ( i bought the bundle on a sale with the nav control for 50 .wat a steal =D ) , the move actually handle this game better than sixaxis .

now quantin dream , get back to the DLC or tease us with sequel/ next project NOW !! i cant wait XD .

  • I love how Lucas Kane from Fahrenheit (AKA Indigo Prophecy) is commentating!

  • Uhh that wasn't shaun at Shaun goes to school

  • @inobrandon Perhaps you should consider the fact that they may have had other designs of Shaun at the time.

  • Dang. I would have loved playing these scenes.

  • hey, ethan kill someone in the apartement and no-one knows? how's that?

  • The game makes more sense after watching this.............

  • I wanna buy more Madison DLC!!!

  • @anthonyszy7 don't worry, it WILL come out (eventually)

  • Wise decisions to leave all this stuff out, all pointless and would of ruined the game

  • wish ethan's blackouts were in the game

  • She's covered wars, you know

  • @shidousama thats deadrising text lol

  • @shidousama

    I love that game :)

  • Honestly, the only scene that should've been deleted was the Shelby scene -_-

  • @SuperIGotHacked that scene wouldn't have made sense either, Scott only killed people if he thought he had to. There was no reason for him killing her.

  • @SuperIGotHacked Totally agree

  • ...Or fill the gaping plot holes-- with water. Rain water.

  • I demand a re-release!

  • wait a sec, so ethan and shelby were just magically psychically connected? Jesus, I mean, I thought that ethan's blackouts made no sense, and this just compounds this notion. Wish they kept the black outs. Reminds me of indigo prophecy. "GIANT FLEAS ATTACKING ME AT MY OFFICE" WTH?

  • They couldn't have just taken the origami figures out of his hand while they were removing the scenes? How did none of the editors and testers notice that problem?

  • I still hope they continue the DLC for the other 3 characters. In a recent interview, Cage said it's still a possibility "Never say Never". Before the DLC was cancelled months ago, Cage stated that the chronicles would be an origin to Jayden's scar and triptocaine addicition. One Chronicle where you play the Origami Killer. And none was said about Ethan; I'm assuming if he ever did have a chronicle it would be a dream sequence during the 1 year gap of his divorce, rewriting his deleted scenes.

  • they should have put these scenes on real game. it would make much better

  • I would have preferred if they kept the blackout scenes, because it was really confusing to have Ethan wandering in the middle of nowhere holding an origami figure; I don't think it was too "paranormal", the game itself it's already pretty grim, and in the end, a little explanation would have sufficed to understand why Ethan was having these blackouts.

  • i would have liked them to alude to supernatural stuff without saying it because at least that would have been an explaination for the origami figure. I can understand blackouts but the origami doesn't make sense without this extra footage. Would have liked to see Madison struggle with her insomnia more like a reoccuring theme like with Norman Jaiden's addiction and Scott Shelby's asthma

  • I understand them taking out the water scenes but if they did that, they should also taken out the blackouts. It's a major plot-hole.

  • i think they should have keep the tsunami scene only cause it so muuuch the best.nut when shelby kills his mother the scene is kinda traumatising

  • I wish they kept the underwater parts they looked cool

  • I'm almost happy they didn't include this. I got way to much Fahrenheit vibes from this. Not the good kind either.

  • Two words: DIRECTOR'S CUT!

  • I think they should make a director's cut of the game. Include the things that were taken out.

  • i have so many questions about this game that needs answers...

  • Complex game? Come on....it's rated M...no little kids should be playing this anyways

  • @Biotasm i played it and im a kid

  • @cookiemoster567 I'm fine with little kids playing rated M games, but when it comes to whiny little kids online and complaining, that goes a step too far :). I'm sure you're not one of them :D

  • @Biotasm no im not i just get exited and bounce around on my bed and i hate that they removed the water nightmare

  • REALLY liked the Blackout parts! Really beautiful and could have added some haunting ''mindfucks''!

Still, one of my favorite games though:)

  • Quantic Dream, fire the prats who told you to remove these scenes and ruin the entire game with these plotholes. Heavy Rain would've probably been almost a 10/10 game if you'd left it in but because of those idiots, it's only a 9. At best a 9.5

  • This is ridiculous!

If they had retained everything as it was, this game would have been even better.

Strange how people make the stupidest decisions...

  • @Thedon1981 k, but Shelby killing his mother would make her statements false of when she says "He never comes to visit me." And it would be weird for him to just randomly visit her after Madison after saying what she said. I think personally, they should've kept the blackout under water giving it the supernatural thing. Madison working at the American Tribuine, no because that would delay the game. I understand why that was taken out. But in movies/games they can't keep everything.

  • @Photoshoper1996 Thats because she has a bad memory, not sure what the condition is called though. This is quite obvious when maddie is talking to he as Shelby's mother often contradicts herself saying she only has one son etc.

  • ohhh, please make a sequel, or at least more DLCs (extra chapter/s like the recent Taxidermist bonus) and i'd be very contented!

  • I think they should have included more content in the game that explains ethans blackouts. these deleted scenes made a lot of sense.

  • WTF NO MORE DELETED SCENES IN GAMES!!!! I REALLY WANTED THE MADISON PAIGE SCENES

  • @gangstervural I guess Madison had no deleted scenes :S

  • @Photoshoper1996 oh :( nvm then

  • It all makes more sense now, especially Madison's part. Too bad they took all of that out, probably would have helped make things clearer. Oh well.

  • @SuperBlaine1123 I know. I wonder why though they have robbers in her apartment when we first meet Madison, you'd think it would be army men or something with guns trying to shoot her and you have to try to dodge the bullets or try to kill them and then she would wake up like the first time that you play her

  • rly, all of that explains so much

part of me thinks it was fake though

  • Anyone else feel like they Tok out some of the best stuff. And they didn't rely explain why they tok out Madison's stuff.

  • one major plot hole when ethan cuts of his finger he is somehow in a old building not the one he cut of his finger in and madison knows hes there

  • So that explains why she has insomnia....huh.

  • They also said it added nothing to the story *facepalm*

it explains what happen during ethan's blackouts which is a major plothole in the story

  • And the blackout were to complex...

do they even remember making indigo proficy(yea i lnow it paranormal)

but in real life there have but case of a tramatic event leading to someone being able to do things like ethan and shelby's mind connection.

and it would make sense there minds would connectect. they both had a tramtic event involeing children and shelby was there at jason's death.

also why would you cut that part out, and leave a part where everything freeze and you follow your dead son

  • wow scott shelby can't kill his mother (massive spoliers) but he can kill ALOT OF CHILDREN.

  • Why were these things removed? I understand wanting to remove the supernatural element, but that could have been replaced with something like Ethan's blackouts started around the same time as the first Origami killings (and the hallucinations were his subconscious picking details out from newspaper articles etc.) I wish we had more time with Madison, so it felt more like we were simultaneously investigating & trying to find the killer, not just save Shaun.

  • I always wondered why Madison suffered from Insomnia..I wonder why Jayden took Drugs though hm

  • @Chrissers88 Jaydens drug problem was caused by jacking into ARI it fucked up his mind and the drugs helped unfuck it

  • Would like more about Jayden also. How he got his scar on the cheek, ARI and his problem with his drug.

  • is this free in psn store?

  • Comment removed

  • @L4DRULZ1 lol TRUE

  • wheres nahman's deleted scenes...

  • "We decided to remove them [blackout explanation]" BECAUSE A GLARING PLOT HOLE IS BETTER!

  • @mattblack04 My thoughts exactly. It's like revealing just the ending of a decent explanation ... because unexplainable stuff is exiciting. For a while.

  • This guy sounds like Lucas Kane!! Anyone agree?

  • @yesyourman probz because he did the voice for him im just guessing coz there not a very big company oh and the creppy doctor in heaqvy rain is also in indigo prothacy! :D

  • @yesyourman lol he does.. and thats how my story ended :)

  • @GamingXSportXClub and I'll never know what happened at that cold January night, because to the rest of the world. I'm just another youtube commenter

  • @yesyourman lol you just cracked me up :D

  • where do you find the deleted scenes

  • @tanxenx36

They were posted on the Playstation Blog at one point.

  • Like people have already said- how can under water dreams be too paranormal when he has the subway breakdown thing when every one freezes?! The house flooding looked awesome and it would of made the game better, he goes down stairs and water is coming through the door? AWESOME! And screw the "move" I want DLC

  • @kornfan1313 He was actually hallicunating :L

  • @kornfan1313

I feel like it wouldve been confusing because there was no precedent for the drowning at that point in the game. It would make sense that Ethan would have psychological experiences about the origami killer MO(he read about in the news and his fear of losing Shaun) and crowds (losing Jason) but he had no idea about the drowning at that point.

  • @kornfan1313 Because one thing is only his halluzination and the other has him "tapping into" someone else's mind? The paranormal aspect is that he can see some of Shelby's memories, see the victim and fold the same origami as the killer does. The subway scene is not paranormal at all, by comparison.

  • @kornfan1313 Because the blackouts are linked to Shelby's killings. Even with these scenes, it's not clear that the blackouts are caused by an unintentional link created between Ethan and Shelby.

  • @kornfan1313 I don't think it was the dreams themselves that were the reason behind the removal but actually what the dreams stood for and why they happened. As he says in the video Ethan and Shelby were meant to have a bond that meant Ethan had a blackout whenever Shelby killed a child and that dream showed what was in Shelby's mind as well as making him go to carnaby street and make an origami figure. Thats why it is too paranormal. I would have liked this but they were going for realism.

  • @kornfan1313

What he meant when he said too paranormal, is that the criminal and the victim are connected in an unexplained and unrealistic manner.

  • @kornfan1313 Yeah the flooded house would have been awesome. But the tsunami bit would have been too much x

  • @salshasam That's just Psych Horror. Hallucinations like Max Payne. The psychic connection with the killer. THAT's supernatural.

  • you know, since they already have deleted scenes, it should be easier for them to turn them into DLCs. i know Quantic Dream has already said it is unlikely for them to release those after being held back by the Playstation Move, but they already have those scenes programmed, they probably just need to make little tweaks here and there.

  • how the heck does Jason1!!! die.

  • @dogfox101 well it starts like this his running on a road then BANG car fucks the lil boy up but it is pretty weird how ethan is the one who looked liek he got hit who knows haha

  • I'm glad they at least got rid of the redecorating Madison's house scene and the part where Scott kills his mom. Redecorating Madison's house sounds incredibly boring, and Scott killing his mom would have been terribly inappropriate for his character. They direly needed to keep Ethan's blackout scenes in it. There was already an element of scifi in the game with ARI. Why not keep that extra little element of supernatural and elliminate the plot hole that cutting the blackouts created.

  • @CountessOfOle I wouldn't really say that the ARI device is 'Sci Fi' as such, it's just advanced technology. It's actually fairly plausible technology too, especially as the ARI model that Jayden carries appears to be a test type. Seeing as they tried to ground the game in reality, the concept of ARI is much easier to swallow than some psychic connection.

  • @MissReibot But what is Scifi? Good Scifi should always be plausible, but the fact remains that, plausible or not, neither ARI nor any technology like it exists in reality. Therefore, it is science fiction. I'll grant you that science fiction and the supernatural aren't the same thing, but they both serve to make Heavy Rain a little less grounded in reality. And my point remains that removing the explanation for the visions but keeping the black outs creates a plot hole that wasn't necessary.

  • Uh....I dunno if this is just me, but..the narrator sounds like Lucas Kane from another one of Quantic Dream's game Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit.

  • @nintendogrl0603

    That seems rather likely.

  • @nintendogrl0603 yeah they dont have a big line of ppl working ther ei believe it is the same guy who does his voice even the creppy doctor in heavy rain is a voice in indigo

  • ...Why?

Why would you cut out the entire background for a main character?

Madison would have still been a terrible character, but at least with the war background and everything, she would had SOMETHING other than a serial killer-attracting damsel in distress/deus ex machina who somehow manages to walk like a freaking supermodel even when on FIRE!

You know, the worst part is Cage probably thinks she's a strong female character with the whole "You go girl!" line...

  • the apartment customization and journalist office would have been awesome, it's more lifelike and much more cinematic...

  • Right, because when the crowd freezes in front of you and falls down with a single touch is NOT supernatural at all! Right?

  • David Cage is a hack

  • I am just baffled that anyone could think that cutting out the Blackouts and Madison parts was a good idea. Too complex? Thanks for thinking everyone is an idiot.

Heavy Rain Director's Cut obviously needs to happen. As do standalone Madison an d Norman games. As others I am afraid of Sony's role in all of this.

  • @Nictel Not "complex"; I think "pointlessly convoluted" was the term they meant, regarding Ethan being underwater and having some kind of psychic connection with Shelby. Madison in Iraq would've been cool, though.

  • they should have made an iraq flashback level for madison, it would have been twisted, like the doctor scene

  • Oh, so by "mysterious" you mean "completely undeveloped."

  • So they decided to cut out all the character development for Madison, leaving her nothing but a useless, redundant character who is in the game for seeming no reason but to have some tits?

Nice job, David Cage. You're a fucking hack.

  • For a game where they said there wouldn't be any pathetically stupid supernatural bullshit, this blackout stuff is unbelievable.

They do not make the story more complex, they make them retarded.

    This is stupid.

    This is all so stupid.

Everyone on "quality assurance" should probably never work again.

  • "Madison is the most enigmatic," no, she's really not.

  • @wildzeromadness I know. That distinction belongs to Nahman.

  • The Blackout parts definitely should have been kept!

  • They should've kept Madison's past and Ethan's blackouts. Or if they didn't want to add a supernatural element, they could've completely got rid of it instead of keeping parts of it and confusing the hell out of us

  • DLC please

  • Lol That was Random at 5:17 for it to Appear

  • Am I the only one who thinks of Street Fighter IV during the intro of this video?

  • The way the game portrays the blackouts - especially in the scene where the entire crowd freezes - really make it obvious in hindsight that there was originally a supernatural element to this story.

  • i have to disagree with everyone demanding a sequel. the cannon endings ended everyone happily, there is nothing left to do but live it now.

but i want a new game with the same mechanics, but a whole different story and characters.

  • game was really good until the end when the orgami killer was revealed

didn't feel like replaying it after that

  • Holy thumb, they really should got an Director's Cut.

Especially, the Ethan's part. And well... Madison's too, you know.

  • Madison's covered wars ya know.

  • @ZombieJakeinator lol nice ;)

  • @ZombieJakeinator No! You dont do that! No! You! Dont!

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @ZombieJakeinator Heavy Rain prequel: Black Rain. Scott Shelby was in the Marines, I assume this was during the First Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm when the lit fields rained oil. A young Madison covers a story involving mysterious massacres in residing villages involving young Arab children drowned in local wells...A young Jayden also serves in the military prior, leading to his FBI days. Ethan becomes an architect for bombed-out buildings in Kuwait City? Give me your thoughts.

  • They really should of kept the blackouts, because you would be able to see how his blackouts effects Ethan
