When I first saw this I was actually pretty sad to see Miguel go. It's true Dexter doesn't get to have friends, Miguel was pretty much his first so it was sad to see that relationship come to such a tragic end. Also before Miguel went all Sith on us (see what I did there? ;)

I agree. Watch Funny Games for a critique on the glorification of violence. Also, watch Haneke's explanation on the significance of the rewind scene and his message. Granted, other people & I watch Dexter for its psychological exposition and dry look at society's established morals rather than its violence. Miguel is looking for deeper intimacy, but also control of the relationship. it is just that they are broken people,they are psychopaths so they kill their soulmate.
