After hearing about Skinner's behavior towards Blair after the 1982 election defeat (where, instead of suggesting anything positive, he chose to have a dig at Blair's Private education), I think he should have retired much earlier & taken his unhelpful attitude to Labour party reform with him...

Simple easy answer to Skinner, which Osbourne should have given. "We're returning the Crown land income to the Queen thus eliminating the need for the civil list"

@kanenkitten Love that. But I think that our Queen is too kind. She has already said that she doesn't want the Crown Estates but the civil list is going to be eliminated in the due course. I think what will happen is that the Queen will get 15% of Crown Land income, which I think is quite reasonable.

@kanenkitten But that would only be like a bank robber having his previously confiscated loot returned to him by the bank he robbed. The Crown Estates were only "owned" by the royals because their ancestors stole the land from our ancestors. They had no moral right to it.
I am not a fan of Skinner but on this one he was right.

@kanenkitten If a burglar bequeaths his stolen goods to his offspring, those goods still rightly belong to the people he stole them from, or to their offspring. The Crown Estates rightly belong to the descendants of the people from whom they were stolen. That’s true inheritance.
It doesn't matter whether the theft took place a year ago, 1000 years ago or 10,000 years ago - the principle is the same.
