  • BEAUTIFUL HISTORY OF LATVIA,PICTURESQUE.THE BEST REGARDS FROM POLAND.MARK

  • Puikus ,taiklus filmukas,dzivuok Latvia,dzivuokiet brali.....

  • if some wondering about 1:30

Janis Bargais roughly translates to Jon Stern.

early literature Latvianised the name as John Terrible

but the Soviet Latvian uses the Russian name Joan Rurikovičs

or you my know him as Ivan the Terrible

  • Labaa filminja :D Veidotaajiem lielais pluss!

  • da izumitelno bravo Rejisor !!!!

    zadumka klasss i realnost

  • Wheres the baltic road???

  • a great one

  • prikolnij multik

  • Ignore Asehpe, he's an idiot. I love this cartoon. :) Musu Latvija, nabadzina, ko vina daris tagad?

  • Viens no taviem agrākiem komentiem bija stulbs vai ievainojoš- tagad tam ir tik daudz "thumbs down", ka vairs nevar redzēt to komentu. Tamdēļ teicu, lai tev ignorē.

  • Tu vari vel izlasit, jo tu to rakstiji. Ari tavi komenti par Ukraini ir arkartigi stulbi. Es izlasiju tavu komentu agrak, kamer to vel vareju redzet, un nolemu, ka tas bija stulbs un nepieklajigs.

  • I don't understand who the 'disappearing men in black' are who show up after the second occupation by the USSR... Are they KGB agents?

  • MGB agents

  • so the present day Latvian Republic is a successor state to Livonia? :)

  • @hizman I know your comment is old, but if you still need answer, then no. Latvia is not a sucessor to anything. Livonia didn't belong to Latvians, it was a bunch of Baltic Germans enslaving the actual Latvian population.

  • well if Livonia counts

  • "So the Russians steal Ukrainian Rus' from the Ukrainians"

Sorry? Can you give me more info about that?

  • The "First Russia" or Kievan Rus' was a state/empire based on Kiev (today's Ukrainian capital). It was later destroyed with the arrival of the Tatars, against whom the Russians of Muscovy revolted and gained independency after a few centuries. Both the Russians and the Ukrainians claim the Rus' empire as their 'historical origin'. The Ukrainians are still living there; the Russians, however, are descended from other tribes, so it's hard to see how they can claim Rus' as "their history".

  • Source?

  • give me some links to those standart works on Russian and Ukrainian history

  • @hizman There were skipped and altered many facts(in general the bad ones), anyway, that doesnt mean that this cartoon was garbage. Its common politics in nowadays(as it was in the past) to make cartoons like this one. Of course in those times name "latvian" didnt make much sense, but do you think that other countries doesnt make up their history?( and Latvia isnt the bigest rewriter of history- just look at russian history books). And at last- whats the point of proving latvian existence?

  • @tupums15 Dude, just look at America... every country rewrites

  • really great video, but i dont get the last bit before the independence about Brezhnev. what did he actually do?

  • Sweet vid

    Loved the 1917 bit.

  • Nu protams, ka 8 minūtēs nevar visas tēmas apskatīt.... dažām atsevišķi gadiem nepietiks... te ļoti daudz kā nav... bet kopumā ideja itin laba :)

  • Vladp72

What could so small country do to so big as Russia or USA?

  • Labs darbs :)

  • Soviet Union secret service were controled by Jews

  • Of corse there was ! In any nation are number of idiots !

  • Don't forget that afterwards Stalin had them all executed, along with many other Latvian families in the western Russia. A silent genocide your history books don't teach you about. All you do is put all the blame on your neighbours, you Russians never see the fault in your doings. Oh, we've been more than passive in the history of European and worldwide bloodshed, if we're compared to Russia, UK, Spain and many more nations.

  • Latvian red riflemen helped, but not Latvia as a country. Never as a country. Riflemen were just a small part of it. Neither communists, no Nazis ever supported our freedom and independence. So think before you talk bullshit about Latvia. We declared our neutrality prior to WWII, but no - communists had to invade and annex us. Nazis drafted Latvians for their dirty cause, so did the russians, although it was against the international agreements.

  • Yes, there were Latvians who were shooting jews. So what? We are not proud of them. But those were the police battalions, not Latvian legion. Almost every country in Europe had people participating in holocaust. Even Stalin ordered shooting of jews.

When will you russians remember one thing - up to 90% of Latvian legion members were conscripted! Do you know what it means? They were forced into joining the SS, as were Latvian divisions in the red army - forced to fight. We didn't ask for war.

  • To vladp72.

So you wanted here a detailed analysis of WW2 and Latvia's involvement in it??!!

Good thing you didn't direct this cartoon.

P.S. Don't you think that in "Cheburashka" the authors didn't reveal enough the problems of Soviet zoos and protecting the endangered species?

  • How about great humour? Self-irony? It's a pity that you can see this lovely bit of animation as nothing more than a piece of propaganda.

  • You are funny. Of course there will be Latvian nationalism in Latvia. Just as there is Russian nationalism in Russia, and German nationalism in Germany, and Turkish nationalism in Turkey, and American nationalsim in the US, etc.

  • Nationalism exists everywhere it isnt just Latvia

  • @vladp72 How else would you describe the Russian ultimative "mutual aid" agreement for Latvia? Either take Latvia by force, or make sign Latvian leadership a contract and just took it anyway. At the time when the Latvian Song Festival was celebrated outside the capital USSR army came across the border, killing innocent family of border guards.

But why in hell anything of this should be commented under puppuet cartoon - I have no idea. :)

  • tieshaam labi! ljoti skaidri atteelota veesture! :)

  • That was surprisingly informative, including the ending which implies Latvian sovereignty from US foreign interventionism.

The fact that the caricatures of the invaders were not subtitled into Latvian language is also illustrative of the problems of imperialism and the retention of culture in the face of political change.

  • Speaking as Latvian-American (my family had to flee the Soviets) The ending is simple we've always been caught up in the middle East vs West. An like the poor Lativan in the vid we've always been trampled under while the two go at each other. We simply want to be left alone to be simply Latvian with our own culture our own ways. Thus the "Do Not Disturb" and Plis(Fort) closed to everyone but Latvians. In short isolationsism and freedom. God Bless Latvia!

  • Labs darbs! Aplaudeeju!!!

  • That was sweet(Foarte frumos)
