    <3

  • это - превосходная песня

    Brava Regina

  • Guys this is undoughtedly the most amazing home video i have ever seen.. wow! and i LUV this song

    jojo

  • Beautiful. There isn't anything else to say

  • this song is so amazing. but for some reason, whenever i listen to this son, whether is night or day, i am depressed that night. yet, this song is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heared. by the way, very nice video.

  • i really love the video...great concept :) made it even more interesting.

  • I think the point of the song's lyrics is the line she sings, "I must go on standing". The song is a grand anthem for some of us who remain standing, who have to "...take these broken wings and learn to fly again." (Don't remeber what song those lyrics are from.)

  • I think you referred to "Blackbird" by the Beatles.

  • Turns out the lyrics Iwas thinking of are from the song "Take These Broken Wings", by Mr. Mister.

  • blackbird the beatles

  • The song I was thinking of was called "Take These Broken Wings" by Mr. Mister. The Beatles song is not the one I was thinking of, but thanks anyway.

  • i just bought her album today with this on it, and as soon as this song started playing i was like wow i love it!!

  • песня, в то же время, всегда мне нравилась.

  • видео бестолковое. задумка может быть и неплохая но совсем уж в эмбриональном состоянии. типа эмо...

  • i love her music, shes very different.

  • I love this song.

  • transation: "February. Get ink, shed tears. Write of it, sob your heart out, sing, While torrential slush that roars Burns in the blackness of the spring" 1912. "Ferbuary" By Boris Pasternak. Original: Февраль. Достать чернил и плакать! Писать о феврале навзрыд, Пока грохочащая слякоть Весною черною горит. Б. Пастернак, "Февраль. Достать чернил и плакать."
  • That's a lovely video :) Does the dancer girl really only have the one leg? Or is is magic of telvision?

  • Oh god, when she started singing Russian i pracically fell of my chair. i was like, Woaah. :) i didn't know she was russian. i'm russian. Actaully, it was kinda hard to understood. it seemed to be mostly about spring and something about crying. ... :S

  • Yep, she's a Russian jew, that, i think, grew up in Brooklyn

  • She speaks russian too right to be grown up in America

  • too well

  • She grew up in Russia and moved to America when she was 7. I did a biography on her for school.

  • i just learned to play this whole song on piano =)

  • I think this is a wonderful video=)

  • The flickering camera could have stopped after about twenty seconds, it just make's it hard to follow without falling off your chair =P

  • When I first heard this, the Russian definitely caught me off-guard. It's like her voice suddenly changed (I know Russian, btw).

  • i wish i knew Russian. :( someone teach me you got 3 sentences go.

  • your video sucks

  • What a negative comment, richardbrophy!

This is an awesome video. I can't believe a mortal caould make this song, or someone intelligent enough to make such a wonderful, touching video. :- )

  • fucking rude!

  • This is amazing. Regina Spektor is so talented and her music is so powerful. I love her unique-ness.

  • Oh. My. God. How can a mere mortal write a song like this. There are no words to describe how ABSOLUTELY AMAZING this song is. Regina, YOU ARE MAGNIFICENT!

  • awesome video...and song

  • Oh yay this is really good REALLY good a rare phenomenon! Thank you for making this!

  • hermoso video llegó al grado de conmoverme tanto

  • loved it :)

  • What does "apres moi" mean?

  • After me

  • I think it's about King Louis XV. He was the one who famously said "Apres moi le deluge" which means "after me come the floods." He was hated by the French people and his reign seeded the resentment towards the monarchy that eventually led to the French Revolution.

  • It was Henry XIV. People loved him, he was named the sun king because under his rule france shone. He did however empty the treasury so the kings after him had to over tax the people and they hated those kings. He knew this would happen hence "apres moi le deluge".

  • actually it was Louis XV. "Après moi le déluge" means "After me the deluge". Louis XV left France in debt after his death. So after France was in debt all hell broke lose. Thats the meaning.

  • sorry, but i think it was actually Madame de Pompadour.

  • actually no one knows who it actually was. They think it was Louis XV or Madame de Pompadour. But they dont know for sure.

  • I know it was Louis XV. The whole musical "Le Roi Soleil" was written about this subject.

  • I'm French.

It was Louis XV who said "Après moi le déluge"

  • Very good, nice idea. Ballerina bits are particularly well done. Great shot/editing at 3:43. Personally, I'd have the painter completely blind, and the reveal be his eyes/face. And I'd question the decision to show the piano keys if the pianist's not going to actually be playing anything resembling the music. But besides that, I likes :-)

  • You did a fantastic job...

I really like this video ^^

  • This is a really good video!

  • This song is about her mother dieng... and the video is very beautiful :]

  • regina spektor is absolutely wonderful lol

    i love her

  • Very good job. It captures the escence of the song, I think. And the cinematography is very good, too. Is it digital video? 16 mm? In any case, congrats! And thanks!

  • same with me!! i LOVE this song. great for when im sad.. even though that sounds kinda sappy. i love it any time of day. But I do like the faster version of this song. Regina is amazing!

  • This is a very good song! One of my favorites.

Lady is a really good song by her too.

  • love thiss songggg! wow great video

  • I love this song.... I listen to it every time I get on the computer!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!

  • I was gonna write this off as some arty, pretentious crap, but the twist is really cool and relates really well to the song (though almost humourously well for the ballet dancer).

  • Great song by Regina and the video is very good too. I thought that the characters flaws were a good refection for some of the lyrics!

  • i almost prefer this one live. it has more character because she's feeding off the audience.

  • very very good. I thought it the actual music video until i saw the tidbit on the right.

    Great Job!

  • good, but the ballerina isn't too good. sorry, i'm not trying to hate, but i just think she needs to get shoes that flatter her feet more and get on the top of the block better. but it's just a music vid, and other than that, it's really good.

  • you did notice that she only has one leg right?

  • LMFAO, most people have only one right leg dude, they don't grow extra right legs.

  • This = awesome.

    To be articulate XD.

  • everyone in this video has a problem this is really good.

i think the pianist is kind ov cute

  • just used the correct camera angles...

  • this is really good. how did you make it look like she has one leg?

  • am i seeing things or does the dancer only have one leg?

  • I certainly hope you don't mind, but I had to do a presentation on Pasternak and came across this song... I loved your video (FFX + pretty music = win ^^), so I used it in the presentation. Credit was given to you, of course.

    Also, 5'd and fav'd

  • I love this song, but Regina "Specktor"?...

  • this looks like one of the videos she would make

  • I just now realized the pianist had a hook... and the painter an eye patch.

  • The e is pronounced more like the e in sex or pet, not the e in "ee" - see, pee. apray is also wrong.

Après moi, le déluge = after me, the deluge (yes, it is an english word)

    Definition:

    1. a great flood of water; inundation; flood.

    2. a drenching rain; downpour.

    3. anything that overwhelms like a flood: a deluge of mail.

    4. the Deluge. flood (def. 3).

Also, "après moi, le déluge" was not said by "Louis the something" (XV), only attributed to him.

  • u know what? who cares what it means? or how its pronounced?

  • apres moi de leluge= after me, the storm

that why she says apres, moi, de leluge; after me comes the flood

  • so boring...

  • Very nicely done! I like it a lot!

  • It's pronounce Apree Moi,silent s...

  • And it means with me,I'm french

  • I thought it was "after me", with me would be "avec moi"....oui??

  • Oui, avec moi is 'with me'; après moi is 'after me'

  • Apres moi, le deluge. After me, the flood. Which in english means after me comes the flood. As for the russian part...

    Fevrale dostat chernil i plakat,

    Pisat O Fevrale navsnryd,

    Poka grohochushaya slyakot

    Vesnoyu charnoyu gorit.

    That means:

February, pick up your pen and weep,

Write poems about february in sobs and ink,

While thunder booming in the background

Is burning in the black of spring

  • The russian part is a poem.

    By Boris Pasternak.

  • Why would anyone give anger towards such a simple misunderstanding? Why would we hate you if you didnt know how to pronounce French? No no no... It's pronounced "Apray Mwah".

  • great job!

  • "apres moi le deluge" is the French part.

The other part is Russian. Geez. It doesn't sound anything like french.

  • I think its "apres moi, le* deluge". apres moi de deluge would be after me of flood, not the flood. but regardless, phenomenal song.

  • The "Apres Moi, de Deluge" bit is French. It is quote by a French king, Louis the something, meaning "After me, the flood"

The other bit is Russian and it's a poem.

  • Wow wow.

  • when she's speaking russian, what is she saying?

  • first of all its french and shes saying

    apres moi de luge

and then that one stanza is

    fevrale dostat chernil plakat

    pisat O fevrale navsnryd

    poka grohochushaya slyakot

    vesnoyu charnoyu gorit

  • thats not french

  • well then what is it then?

apres moi, de deluge IS french it means after me, the flood

  • Fevrale dostat chernil i plakat

    Pisat O Fevrale navsnryd

    Poka grohochushaya slyakot

    Vesnoyu charnoyu gorit

    It means

February, pick up your pen and weep,

Write poems about february in sobs and ink,

While thunder booming in the background

Is burning in the black of spring

  • ~

February, get out ink and weep,

To write about February in sobs,

    While the booming slush

Is burning as a black spring

  • Fevral. Dostat chernil i plakat,

    Pisat O fevrale navsnryd,

    Poka grohochushaya slyakot

    Vesnoyu chornoyu gorit.

  • Fevral. Dostat chernil i plakat,

    Pisat O Fevrale navsnryd,

    Poka grohochushaya slyakot

    Vesnoyu chornoyu gorit.

  • Awsome job.

  • Vary well done, Bravo.

  • great :]

  • pure genius

  • this film is amaaaaazing. i wasn't really paying attention, but on a second viewing, i get it. it's great.
