@mistamikey123455 This tank can still be upgraded to a level, where it can still take on those! The difference will not be much than and can be compensated by crew experience and tactics.
@S300V Thats REALLY stretching it. This thing would have to undergo such massive upgrades it wouldnt be fair to call it a T-72 anymore. Plus, Russias military training (again, hate to say it), has been inferior to what the USSR trained... Many arent even trained completely.

There has been many drivatives of T-72, came a long way since the initial version built in the early 70s! Infact T-90 can be considered as a culmination of the experiences gained with T-72. The Israelis upgraded M60, they called it Magach7. So? Its still related to M60, they used M60 main components. As for training it depends on who is using the tech. Its another story
@S300V Wow, you are mis informed. The Merkava is 110% Israeli. It is not a version of the Abrams. It is completely different. I don't know where you learned that, but fix that.
Go google Merkava. It was designed in the late 70's, early 80's. All 100% Israeli. They tried the Abrams before making the Merkava, but the Abrams could not handle the Golan Heights. Maybe I misunderstood you, since the way you type is confusing. I understand what you mean, but look at the Magach 7. Its no longer a M60.

@mistamikey123455 T-90 is an extensive upgrade of the T-72. the T-55 has nothing to do with the T-72 and the first model that shares similar traits but is not the originator of the T-72 is the T-64. they are not the same thing as the Merkavas, which are all upgrades of the same basic original model.

@mistamikey123455 I thought that the merkava uses a 105mm british L-7 main gun and squash head rounds?we sent tons of surplus 105's and ammo over to Isreal back in the 80's when we converted over to the german 120mm's for our M-1A2's...our tank,using sabot's shot the shit out of Iraqi T-72's and T-80's at ranges past 3500m.their 125mm Russian main gun was a sorry joke and their rounds just bounced off our armour,,,
@bobb22ful Your correct. The MK 1-2 used a 105mm L-7. The MK 3-4 use a 120mm L-44 Israeli made version. The older merks are either being decomed and parts used to make APCs. We are currently "modernizing" our tanks, adding some 400 more Merkava 4s to replace the older MK 1 and 2s. The Magach medium tank series (based off the Patton tanks, that is used for urban warfare mostly) has a 105mm so it will use that ammo and such.

Why so? M1A1 is not invulnerable! T-72s 125mm gun can blast it with a HEAT shell. Besides there are better protected tanks than M1A1. Challenger 2 for exmpl.
@mistamikey123455 I consider it to be about the same as Chal2. The frontal engine feature is added protection, but the Chal2 is a smaller target somewhat.

The new Merkava 4s are completely Israeli. The only thing is the engine which is german, and the gun is based off a german design.
