  • This is such a scam. A few years ago, I kept getting "abnormal" pap smears from the doctor I was going to. It started at age 16. By the time I was 17, she was doing colposcopys/biopsys on me. Then one visit she sat me down and told me randomly that I have HPV, handed me an audio about a girl who died from it, told me I needed the Gardasil vaccine, and sent me home. I was so confused and distraught, didn't know what to think. Went to a new doctor a couple months later, told me I never had HPV!!

  • pap smear is a waste of time and money

  • ok someone just wrote and told me that they think colposcopy is necessary but paps are not. How would a doc know you needed a colp without a pap??? Please explain this! I am giong for a pap today but I do not like it when they use that brush cause I cramp for days afterward. Can't they just swab to get a smear? anyone?

  • doctors won't tell you that over 99% of the false positives also land up in your cervix being badly damaged by unnessessary treatments like LEEP. A LEEP performed on any woman other than one diagnosed with cancer is GENITAL MUTILATION!!!

  • An 'abnormal pap smear' is just another way of convincing a woman she may have HPV, so she keeps coming back for more paps and unnessessary treatments, making doctors more money. Be informed, google 'unnessessary pap smears blogcritics' to read more about this subject.

Ask yourself, do you REALLY need invasive gyn exams? Do you really need to feel all that discomfort because some doctor tells you you need to, then makes you feel ashamed if you don't?

  • @thewr0ngchild I know of someone that had a normal pap smear and within 1 year was at 1 level below cancer. Not all cervical cancers are slow growing. Insurance companies don't want to pay for yearly paps. This is very upsetting, like going back 30 years when women's health just was not important. Yearly paps are necessary.

  • @Kathylouu Women's health is important! It's important a women is fully informed of the RISKS of pap smears as well as any benefits! Doctors don't tell you that over 99% of the 'positive' tests are nothing but natural changes in your body! I don't have SO much of an issue with the pap smears themselves so long as the woman can make an INFORMED CHOICE about wether or not it's best for her to have them!!!

  • @thewr0ngchild , you got a point I think ! I just had my pap smear and this time is abnormal and weird I never had a abnormal pap smear before . So anyway my ob already perform the colposcopy and just receive the result after a week and they said its pre cancerous but need to remove all bad cells and this time is going to be deeper !

Weird every single time I go to any of my doctor theres always something wrong , either dentist which I just spend 5 grand to have a brace now that Im already 29

  • @Kitte111981 Please don't allow them to perform a LEEP or any other invasive treatments without questioning these results. The LEEP procedure (removal of the cells) is not to be taken lightly, it can cause you a lot of health problems in the future, such as scarring your cervix shut, which causes your menstrual blood to become trapped in your pelvic area and can cause you lots of pain and cause endometriosis.

  • @thewr0ngchild they say ANY abnormal smear is 'precancerous' when it is very doubtful it is! You're going to get stuck on the gyn merry go round, smear, unnessessary treatments, damage, pain and more health problems. You can tell your doctor that you wish to enter a period of 'watchful waiting' where the monitor you over a period of months, and chances are the abnormality will clear up by it's self without the need for painful, unnessessary and dangerous surgery.

  • @Kitte111981 LEEP can also seriously damage your cervix, it can mean your cervix may need to be stitched shut if you want to carry a baby, and it can cause women lasting pain, problems with orgasm. bleeding, and infections, some of which can poison your blood and kill you, and even leave you more vaunrable to cancer. Your doctor would probably treat you like a mental patient if you tried to tell him these things! You do NOT have to consent to this treatment!

  • @Kitte111981 you're in the USA, so your illness is their MONEY, this is why they always tell you you are ill when you are not! Don't fall for it, say to your doctor the ONLY 'treatment' you will accept is monitoring for a few months to see what happens with these 'abnormalities'. Even then, you have every right under your constitution to refuse medical treatment you feel you do not need! Don't fall for it. also check out 'unnessessary pap smears blogcritics' for others who feel the same as me.

  • @thewr0ngchild As yourself, do you REALLY need to die of cervical cancer. Go ahead and DON'T take advantage of cervical cancer screening and early intervention that prevents cancer progression and death. But why are you trying to influence other people from protecting themselves?

  • @thewr0ngchild I agree. Google Dr Angela Raffle. She is a specialist in the UK and believes these exams can do more harm then good. Pap smears can damage the cells of the cervix and may increase the risk of cancer. I have also discovered that a lot of gynecologists will do unnecessary exams on young, attractive women. They admitted that they can easily justify it. Many women have also complained that they often have unnecessary exams. This is a dirty trick by the male doctors who are creepy!

  • Woo!

  • @SoldierOfChrist110 so do you think the colposcopy is necessary or no? What about the biopsies? even the word "pinch" biopsy sounds painful!

  • @yahssis Yes, I do think that colposcopy is necessary, but pap smears damage blood cells in the cervix quite badly, which is why a lot of women bleed afterwards.

  • a pap smear CANNOT tell you whether cancer is present or not..

you could tell from a biopsy though.

Also, HPV negative cervices does NOT rule out cancer... the way she said it at 1:08 implied that cancer will only exist in the presence of HPV, which is not true...

Can't depend on the media to give you accurate medical advice..

  • very interesting

  • This really helped me! thank sooo much!

  • OMG! I just got my pap smear test and the Dr found something that looks like a coffee bean? Dr Wu, what is that please?

  • You won't get free health care here; go see your doctor

  • Nice well documented Dr. Wu! keep it up!

  • Interesting
