the 500 series looks nicer =). im so annoyed australia doesn't really have anything like this yet. where the hell is my Cairns to Melbourne link Kev haha =)
The fastest bullet train is now operating at 300km/h. And, at the end of this 2011, JR East will operate at 320km/h.
We have to limit the operational speed from the side of safety and enviromental risk such as earthquake and the noise at Japan(the train must stop within 4km at the top of its speed in the event of earthquake)
If we ignore such risk at Australia, we may be able to operate the train at 400km/h - just the half fast of airplane.
For a East Coast Link from Melbourne to Cairns via These stops Albury, Canberra, Wollongong, Sydney, Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Mackey, Townsville then Cairns it's roughly 3200km's I mite be wrong it could be more so it would cost a couple hundred Trillion I think to build it completly including the HS Trains
Our country mainly uses two different width of gauges.The shinkansen's one is wider than the normal JR line(A.K.A "Zairai-sen" - literaly "Japan standard gauge-used line"). Furthermore, the old one's diameter of curve is very small so that Shinkansen cannot operate at high-speed.
So, if we want to operate shinkansen at high-speed in Japan, we never use the influstructure of the Zairai-sen.
However, your country can construct and operate the high-speed railway more cheaper than ours.
Because;
1, You maybe share the same rail track with freighter's railway.
2, There are no radical-angled curve so that cannnot run at high-speed.
3, And, eccept with the city residential area, you can buy the site of track and facility much more cheaper than Japan. Some analysis tells we spend a half of whole construction's cost only for buying the site for track and facility in Japan.
Okay, so I was mistaken. They're almost identical, so I basically just took a crap shot at which one it was. Now that I've gone back and looked at both of them, I can tell the difference now. Thanks for setting me right.

日本の電車作成技術の高さだけでなく、駅のホームや電車の中でみんな一斉に携帯電話を開いて下を向いている格好をしている日本人の姿も外国人から見ると不思議な光景だろうね。

Bullet trains are very loud and noisy if you are outside.
If you are inside, it's very quiet, you won't know when it starts moving.
