You won't hear me say too many good things about SU, but you just lieing if you talking bout you can't tell what songs they playing. I have said that myself at times about SU. But you just a liar if you say that bout this clip. Only way you can't tell is if you going and out of the room and catch them at a part they not got a lot of people not facting front.
I don't know what DCI competiton some people are talking about, but I never been to one with 60,000 people before. I been to a few BotB with 40K+ but I never seen that many at any DCI event I sent to. I musta went to wrong one
What most hbcu's do and other bands do is totally different. I enjoy both styles (especially Texas A&M military style; that's on point!). But hey, I'm just a "band geek".

@themainsqueeze21 Most of the shows I have seen would put me to sleep. See ULL halftime show. Not saying they can not play and they do not work, I know they do. Western Carolina University is the best DCI band I have seem. They go the extra mile to entertain the crowd.

Its funny how people over the years diminish things they CANNOT do and the things they CAN do set as a standard. Lets see some DCI bands high step 90 degrees, do complicated dance moves and play at the same time. Clearly the crowd didn't care about who's lines were the straightest.

And actually, the cavaliers do complicated moves, santa clara vanguard does magic tricks, and the blue devils....well they're just the blue devils. In the cavaliers show one year, they make a double helix (In case you didn't know what that means, it looks like DNA) and they made it flow up and down, or ripple.

SU does about 5 different shows during the season (Sep-Nov) DCI has ONE show for a season approx. 5 months. The sound quality will not be it's best when you play and dance at the same time. I'm a Big ULL fan and i was there. LOL why did ULL's band even play? or show up for that matter? Every time they played during the game, SU's amazing band would just play at the same time and drown out the sound of ULLs band. I love how SU played michal jackson and ULL played some stupid songs from spain that no one cares about. lol poor ULL at least we won the football game!

I heard today that alot of bands have done micheal Jackson tributes this season. While that is somewhat predictable given who he was, judging from the number of hits Southern's first show of the season has received, I bet these band's shows probably looked very similar to this one (one of the bands was a PWS that has played Southern in the past).
Damn, I wished I had gotten my "lazy" but up and had gone to this game. The band showed out on the field as well as the stands. Peeps in Houston who went, came back "raving" about how "perfect" the band was (I have watched this two times already!!!).
A trumpet player that crabbed during 1980 but met you a year earlier in California on UCLA's campus when SU was at the Rose Bowl. I was at the Rose Bowl with the Mc Donald's All-American band and we stayed n the campus with SU.

It's interesting watching this now, since my older brother's at this college. I don't know why I didn't bother looking it up before! The formations looked pretty cool, and seemed to vibrate with all that bobbing going on. Awesome group, good performance.

These Show Bands could learn a few things from DCI
That's real marching band.
Listen to the Cavaliers, or the Blue Devils, or Santa Clara Vanguard.
This marching band on this video has terrible techniques. Their lines are bad, their tone is bad, and their drill is EASY.
Listen to a real marching band.

HBCU bands play CAN produce music with good tones, intonnation and good articulation. WE DO HAVE CONCERT SEASON, incase you are living under a rock. But, the history we have so greatly preserved over the years does not require that at halftime. WE ENTERTAIN using out own style.

(I think you see that as well, but with envy) It is what it is! Our ancestors say that "People tend to hate the things they cant do or understand". I'm a Big ULL fan and i was there. LOL why did ULL's band even play? or show up for that matter? Every time they played during the game, SU's amazing band would just play at the same time and drown out the sound of ULLs band. I love how SU played michal jackson and ULL played some stupid songs from spain that no one cares about. lol poor ULL at least we won the football game!

I heard today that alot of bands have done micheal Jackson tributes this season. While that is somewhat predictable given who he was, judging from the number of hits Southern's first show of the season has received, I bet these band's shows probably looked very similar to this one (one of the bands was a PWS that has played Southern in the past).

Damn, I wished I had gotten my "lazy" but up and had gone to this game. The band showed out on the field as well as the stands. Peeps in Houston who went, came back "raving" about how "perfect" the band was (I have watched this two times already!!!).

A trumpet player that crabbed during 1980 but met you a year earlier in California on UCLA's campus when SU was at the Rose Bowl. I was at the Rose Bowl with the Mc Donald's All-American band and we stayed n the campus with SU.

It's interesting watching this now, since my older brother's at this college. I don't know why I didn't bother looking it up before! The formations looked pretty cool, and seemed to vibrate with all that bobbing going on. Awesome group, good performance.
