  • To all those who think this is a different version it half true. It is the same as the released version only it is in its work in progress stage. Already edited down to from the 8 minute multitrack but with a rough remix and a later aborted vocal attempt.

  • How many different clip of this song are out there? They show how Gimme Shelter evolved from an idea to music.

  • THere is some LFO modulation on the vocal, probably a Leslie rotary speaker that makes it sound extremely creepy.

  • Miss those background vocals...always gives me the chills when she screams.

  • totally awesome version, but can anyone authenticate that it is the vocals of mick and Kieth? or a vocal dub over by another band?

either way it is great, but sure would like to know!

  • Captures the darkness of the era.

  • This is the real, real " Gimme Shelter." Thanks for posting. This one has the knife- edge quality, a visceral shout-out. This is quintessential Stones of the era, more raw. Things got grittier as the Sixties progressed and this version reflects that.

  • This is so hardcore. no sugar coating. That's the stones .

  • good point

  • I agree, any version!!!

  • I will listen to ANY version of this song.

  • @mybalzurchin too bad that any other versions except the ones from The Rolling Stones are crap...

  • @3d3a3v3i3d Mitch Ryder and Grand Funk Railroad do very good covers.

  • This is the version with the bass in the forefront. There is a version where Keith Richards sings lead. The final cut has Merry Clayton doing a duet with Mick which was only released in album format. It was more of a compilation or assemblage because The Stones did their recording in London and Clayton did her recording in Los Angeles. So the final cut has a little different wording to accommodate the duet flavor. For example, near the end when Merry hits a high note "murder", Mick shouts "whoo".

  • SOMEBODY TELL ME NOW WHERE I CAN DOWNLOAD THIS

  • WOW. Hardcore version. Great find/posting stratocasterbg!

  • love it!

  • OMG this is perfect..... Where I can get this on MP3????????

  • @3d3a3v3i3d

if you go to video2mp3./\/et you can paste the URL from this video into the space and it will convert it to mp3 for you..

  • Where can I find this recording

  • Mick is on vocals!!

  • All I hear is sniper fire and flash grenades in choke points that I and my team can take down with a combination of RPGs and a noob-style rush for the melee kill.

  • who's on vocals? Keith or Mick?

  • @ILOVERONNIE100

I'm pretty sure Mick starts off, but then Keith does sing a few lines in it.

  • This is the one with keith on vocals isnt it?

  • Sounds good, but the Let It Bleed one is still the best one. Merry Clayton is sinister.

  • This version is more darker and sinister..........

  • AWESOME!

  • Where has this been hiding??? My fav song by them and never heard this. Geez is there a cd?

  • Holy F**k Mick, even Satan thinks this version is a bit too dark.

  • ok. so all the footage of the stones playing this song have mick taylor playing also. seems like some revisionist-nest going on...

  • Fuckin Charlie, man. He's like a machine, but in the good way.

  • More cowbell.

  • This take was recorded on March 15, 1969. Merry Clayton's vocal and Nicky Hopkins's piano were added to the song on October 17, 1969. Mick's distorted harmonica solo is present on both takes.

  • Damn, this version is better than the one on Let It Bleed.

  • sounds neutered

  • the version with keith on vocals is great too!!!

  • This is so raw! The dissonance from the vocal tracks sounds great.

    P.S. Still adore Merry

  • Grittier, harder hitting. First two bars of bass are different. Mick's vocal is double tracked throughout. There's a Keith lead vocal version with very much the same delivery.

  • omg i think i prefer this version to the original one...

it's heavier, tougher, colder, really like an ancestor of hard rock...and addictive

haha i knew these guys were geniuses but we have another proof of it!

  • micks voice has been dubbed over the original..... its obvious, two songs together.

hahaha all you suckers have fallen for it

  • hahaha yeah just an overdub....with a different bass line, guitar line, harmonica, different mixing ect...

  • this is definitely not the original. it came before that. so no suckers here.

  • this is the closest song to the hell

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • Great version! Thanks for posting it.

  • Stones FOREVER!!!

  • "This is interesting. They were almost there. But changing up the chorus a bit and adding the woman put it into the history book of rock. Peace. "

spot on comment... the vocal change and merry clayton hit the spot!

  • the bass in the intro is so good...wow! that little 20 second bit at the start is BETTER than the finished version - something i never thought i'd hear myself say!

  • This Gimme Shelter sounds crazyyy!!! i love this song and i love the way keith plays the solo at the end, hes a legend!! thanks for this.

  • mick taylor play the solo

  • but live keith played them too. i think they both played them.

  • The studio version features Keith on both lead and rhythm guitars. Mick Taylor played on only two songs on that album, Country Honk and Live With Me.

  • one of my favorite Stone tunes.

    thanks for this!

"if i dont get no shelter, I'm gonna fade away"

  • I've read got the inspiration for the riff to Gimmie Shelter after watching an episode of the Twilight Zone. You can sort of hear it if you really listen to it.

  • sorry meant to say Keith got the inspiration

  • awesome, keef !

  • terrible ese bajo!!!! y la voz muuuy buena, casi casi mejor que la version conocida, mas grunge jajajjaj

  • Just a kiss away..listen the bass...awesome

  • Great Song! Great Band!

  • Just a kiss away...ohyeah.

  • Excellent, thank you for this!

  • This is interesting. They were almost there. But changing up the chorus a bit and adding the woman put it into the history book of rock. Peace.
