  • I can't believe that guy was just standing there floating on water while that boat flew past lol ha ha haaa

  • NOW WE'RE TaIking ! ! !

  • gust of wind and your fucked...

  • its a plane that lands on water. wait........isnt there already one of those??? hahahah :)

  • Very interesting

  • Looks like an Ekranoplan.

  • @gsherlock It is an Ekranoplan- at least in principle :)

  • If they had a small turbine engine, and had the ability to cruise between 80-120mph at only 75% power, with 6 people on board, and a cruise flight height of a constant 6 feet.... THEN they'd be on to something wonderful!

  • For a second I was thinking the dude was standing on water lol

  • it is perfect for transfer lake to lake

  • Too complex....... youtube z9xtgLktlU4

  • Advantages would be the ability to traverse white water over rocks say two or three feet high. Another advantage could be a possible smoother ride. Disadvantages are the carrying capacity is reduced when transitioned to hovercraft to WIG mode.

  • this can fly over land to?

  • is not a hoovercraft but is a ekranoplane!!!

  • cool

  • Doesn't look like these things have ailerons, so turn must be by rudder only. Must have a very wide turning radius, and at these speeds, so be very dangerous.

  • You don't need ailerons and ailerons would probably only make it much more dangerous being able to actually flip the hovercraft over.

I wouldn't want to fly one of these in more extreme winds though.

  • Ekranoplan rocks!

  • Looks like a load of fun!

Too bad there's several things on our wish list that $100k could buy first. LOL

    Still sweet!

  • @Serafinos bah should have replied to yours, check this for cheap z9xtgLktlU4

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again: It aint a hovercraft if it at all involves a wing or wings, propellers,or any piece connected to the vehicle touching the ground.

  • It's a hovercraft with 2 wings mounted on it.

That doesn't make it less of a hovercraft.

  • So, if you build a regular hovercraft and then you add two wings to it, does it cease to be a hovercraft?

  • amazing

  • russians mad much biger the this called ekranoplan

  • does it come with a fish finder? ;)

are there any R/C designs out?

  • yes i wish will be nice to have a R/C system

  • ekranoplan copy

  • Is part of the thrust diverted down or is it all forced aft?

  • It's mostly aft, but a small amount of force does help it fly. This craft doesn't fly solely because of the downward thrust though. It flys because the wing stays in ground effects which reduces the parasite drag of the wing by close to 25% while also slightly increasing lift. If they try to climb higher, that decrease in drag will go away and it will fall back down.

  • Surely you mean induced drag?

  • Ya, one or the other. I can never keep em straight...

  • it's called the ground effect, it's known by all pilots

  • Welcome to WipEout.

    (Sorry, just had to.)

  • ufo techenology

  • personally i think it's WICKED... i mean, a simple feat of engineering which can make it fly. just chuck in two wings and voila..... aerodynamics and lift. i love physics. wow.

  • It's a great looking machine but what would be the advantages over the hovercraft, boat, plane, swampboat ?

    anyone?

  • Well it is first and foremost a hovercraft, that can be converted into a wing in ground effect machine. One advantage is you don't need a license to operate it and you can take a passenger while flying.

  • how much does it cost?

  • star wars :D

  • Aye, these things (because they aren't capable of free flight) aren't classed as planes, and so you don't need a pilots license. The original Ground Effect Vehicles (Ekranoplanes of the 60's) had an advantage over planes as they used only a fraction of the power to travel at the same speeds, as they required less power for lift due to ground effect. However, poor hull design meant that they required alot of power to get out of the water (See Caspian Sea Monster).

  • That is were the trouble lies in my opinion. To make a boat fly it uses less power when off of the water but to make a hovercraft fly (in ground effect) it takes more power and is less efficient. The hovercraft has very minimal drag on the water were a boat has tons!!

  • @countrylivinone: And THEN what happened?

  • bfhfhs its a hoverwing thats what it is named

  • thats not a hovercraft it's an ekranoplane!!!

  • This "UH 18spw hoverwing" can NOT hover, so it's misleading to include "hover" in its name. I agree with AlwaysMoving, it's more like an ekranoplane, although people don't like that name, because it's russian. But this device does operate on wing-in-ground-effect, same as ekranoplane.

  • Yes it can. Remove the wings and you get a hovercraft.

  • Hi Terry

I am very interested in the Hoverwing. I sent an email to United Hovercraft, asking about buying the plans, with no result. There web site does not seem to have been updated for a while. Maybe they are out of business? That would be very sad. It´s really a great craft they have created! I am very curious about the flight and handling characteristics of this craft. I would be very grateful if you could tell me a little of your experience from flying it. I fly ultralight airplanes.

  • Too bad you missed the best part going under the bridge. UH in Hafvard IL is slow to respond if ever.

  • XD!!!!!!!!!!

  • omfg thats a PLANE!!! :O haha very cool :D

  • I want one of those more than I've ever wanted anything in my life - ever.

  • So did i thats why I built one :-)

  • Brilliant! I don't have the technical ability or anywhere to use one, but it looks wonderful.

Tell me honestly - is it the best thing in the world ever?

  • Looks kinda like a plane :P nice

  • fuck that is a sweet amchine

  • ufo ??

  • not quite as cool as a Caspian Sea Monster.. but who cares, I want! very fun looking machine

  • can I buy plans or kits

  • Hey, very cool thing :) Its like plane.. :)

  • Is it possible to send me the planes to my Email? -- - countrylivinone

  • where can i get this little plane?

  • It's not a plane, it's a hovercraft with wings for ground effect: that is as high as it can go.

To reach the official Hoverwing page, just search "hoverwing" on Google. It's the second result.

  • No that was in Muscoda wisconsin on the lower wis river. Super awesome river to run full of sandbars and shallow waters perfect for hovercraft. The vid was taken during one of two hovercraft conventions that are held there every year.

  • was that in ohio?

  • that was sweet

  • Awesome! This is why i want to be an engineer!

  • that looks sweet!!!
