  • Lookin At Lucky got bumped around too much, but he proved his worth in the Preakness.

  • A 20-horse field is a lot of horses, glad there were no accidents or spills.

Maybe 14 or 15 horses max in this race. 20 horses is a bit much, a real cavalry charge into the clubhouse turn.

  • Half the horses in the Kentucky Derby don't belong. How did horses like Super Saver get in? He didn't win a Derby prep!

  • @SuperCharlieKitty

You don't have to WIN a derby prep race, Genius... If you knew anything about the subject, you'd know that entries are taken and preference is given to those with the most Graded Stakes earnings...

Just saying know your facts before you vomit your opinion

  • USA has top class racing with some great horses but UK racing tracks are much nicer that the USA's.

  • who was the 2nd place horse that came flying from the outside??!!!!...WOW thats a horse...

  • What is the definition of whip over-use in US racing? Calvin Borel?

  • I hope its gonna be Uncle Mo saturday, but Dialed In looks good and Twice the Appeal is good to cause u never know with Borel. Hes a great jockey

  • How unlucky was the runner up

  • Let's make this clear and for the last time, the best 3yr old

that year did not run and his name was Eskendereya hurt

in the Wood and clearly fastest with the best Stamina ask

Pletcher he trained him; 2nd best 2yr old champ Lookin

    At Lucky!

  • SO pathetic. Ice Box? not the best horse at all. Devil May Care is a much better horse .

  • SO pathetic. Ice Box? not the best horse at all. Devil May Care is a much better horse.

  • In hindsight, I ce Box was NOT the best horse. He didn't run a step after this race

  • In hindsight, I ce Box wasn't the best anything. That poor horse didn't run a step after this race

  • I'm glad that it had at least stopped raining. But that was an AMAZING race!

  • Ice Box was clearly the better horse but what can a jock do with slop.

  • Texas Flag at 2:01

  • I hate most of those riders, the stupid amount they hit those horses with the whip :/

  • Not only do you need to be the best horse you need to be the best jockey as well on the day!!

  • Is it gambling? Or what?

  • Everybody knows if Lookin at Lucky hadn't gotten the bad post he would of won this race he got shuffled back to last at one point and finished sixth

  • I hit this trifecta! Darn near hit the super. When Ice Box camed charging, I went utterly nuts. You could SEE that thing FLYING...He had the worst of trips. Borel though is the master of the rail..The MAN at Churchill Downs!

  • I wonder how many times Calvin Borel will make everyone else eat his dust before they wise up and stop giving him the inside rail? I really hope it takes a little longer, his tactic makes for awesome race coverage.

  • i race motocross and i never rode on dirt that shiny, looks fun thow

  • Calvin Burel could win riding a mule. He IS the man.

  • hopefully the owner uses some of his prize money to get a decent haircut.

  • is this race always run in sloppy mud?

  • @andy55055 Not always, I live not too far away from church hills down and they had been debating as to weather or not to run the horses. They thought it might be too slippery for them and the riders but after much debate they decided it was okay. It's normally like that in Louisville.

  • Guys, may be that Super Saver did win this but did anyone except me did see how hard the jockey did hit him? Call me an idiot but this is crucial!

  • @jazzzabout I have an Uncel and a cousin who are both ex-jockeys here is Santa Anita CA. and yes I noticed how hard he was hitting super saver. My cousin said alot of those jockeys hit their horses hard or kick them. He doesn't like to that himself because he said it's cruel. He trains wild horses as well and says there is no need to treat any horse that way if you know how to ride a horse than no need for abuse. I feel bad for those horses. They will get rid of a jockey if hes cruel.

  • @iscrca geez,ur so damn right! oh. were they jockeys in CA?! theres a jockey scene in CA? Didnt know bout tht...anyways,ur right. actually most of them do. hm,i heard alota jockeys say im not doing tht, yeah its crucial but reality looks different, they do it anyway... its similar to us humans: u dont have to beat us up,u just need to get how we work,think,function... sry,but they wont. how? they got to live w/ tht beginning age 2. thx for ur opinion. i appreciate it much. hold it up,buddy.

  • @jazzzabout Yes they were jockeys here in CA. Actually my cousin still works at the Santa Anita racetrack as a gallopar. He warms the horses up in the morning to get them ready for the races. He gets the wild ones that no one else knows how to ride. His boss won't let any of the other jockeys ride them or trainers because they use whips on them. My cousin has a whip and he showed it to me. It's never been used because he said there is no need to. .

  • Call me crazy but I think Sidney's Candy would have won this race. The pace would have been slower and he would get a first jump. And he was training great the first time he went to churchill for this race when the dirt was regular and dry.

If Twirling Candy was healthy he could have won too.

  • LAL should be a triple crown winner this year. He got screwed in this race. He won the preakness and he would have won the belmont. They should limit the field to 15. Also, I am tired of shitty horses winning the derby. In the last 7+ years we have had Giacomo, Mine that bird, and super saver. All of those horses are shitty pack mules.

  • @clamb1915 The best horse is the horse that finishes first, my friend, and Calvin Borel is a pretty damn good jockey if he can pilot some "shitty pack mules" to victory.

  • @AngusGibsonT he is a good jockey--at churchill downs. he is average at best at any other track. he won solely because everything that needed to go right, did. he got a perfect trip, the better horses in that race didn't, also, his horse liked wet dirt. and the best horse does not always win the race. that was proven in this years SA derby and the KY derby. LAL was the best in both of those races. everything went wrong for him, and he lost because of that.

  • Sidney's Candy shouldn't have been rushed to the lead like that. Biggest Derby disapointment since Fresian Fire last year or maybe even Arazi in 1992.

  • too many horses. but my god would this be a rush. i cant imagine how amazing this is for the jockys

  • calvin borel es un fenomeno en kentucky

  • Draw a line through this race for Sidney's Candy and Lookin At Lucky both. The two are clearly the two best 3yr.old colt's in America, by far!! As witnessed by LAL dispatching Super Saver and Ice Box easily in the Haskell Invitational. And Sidney's Candy setting a new Del-Mar turf course record in his first time on turf. Destroying the La Jolla Handicap field. Sidney's Candy ran 8-1/2 furlongs on the turf at Del-Mar like he was in a 6 furlong sprint race. Both of these colt's are talented. IMO.

  • what channel was this on? i watched ESPN all day and it never came on :(

  • Woow, there are many horses running one race x)

Super saver deserved 2 win, it was a beautiful horse ;D

  • i was rooting for conveyance and he was in the lead most of the race

  • I worked both oaks and derby i was in the infeild but for all the races i got to watch them right on the finish line. Something i will never forget. hahha

  • isnt that wet stuff kinda danerous for them to run in?? correct me if im wrong please

  • @alwaysinthesaddle it depends more on the type of surface... sometimes the track looks like an absolute mess but depending on the composition of the track and how it has been worked or sealed...most of the time it is fine to run on...

  • @BigLicker76 oh! thanks for the info!

  • number 4 rocks

  • i lost my bet ,it was on noble

  • did you know that the tooth brush was invented in kentucky because if it were invented any were else it would be called the teethbrush

  • Where could I pick up one of these horses? How much do they run, say $500-600?

  • JOEL had a good ride on make music for me a horse 30-1 i hope tomorrow MAKE MUSIC FOR ME could have a PERFORMANCE if and why not win the belmont for me ROSARIO,VEJARANO and PEDROSA are the best ridder in usa and the push horse very hard and have stong arms.

  • Good race!!

  • How about Stately Victor for the Belmont? These guys tipped him and Ice Box for the Derby and are positive for the Belmont as well.

    latekick dot com

  • great race.

  • You have to love Calvin Bo-rail. Nice to see that a lifetime of hard work is paying him back. I never heard of him until he rode Street Sense and of course since then which horse racing fan hasn't heard of him. His enthusiasm and humbleness is exactly what this sport needs. Thanks for posting this.

  • WooHoo! Preakness Stakes today!! Go Super Saver!!!

  • this 20 horse field shit has to stop....Ice Box was the best horse May 1 and had to check 3 times, they should make it 15 horses

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA They should leave it at 20...Big Brown was the favorite in 08'. And he won from post position 20 that day. He proved by far that day that he was the BEST! I agree that Ice Box had a terrible trip...but I've heard it argued by racing analysts that Looking At Lucky and even Make Music For Me actually had worst trips then Ice Box did.

It's horse racing for crying out loud...in EVERY race a horse and jockey need a little good luck!!!

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA i agree not always the best horse wins but this is why it is the kentucky derby....It takes luck..But i can also say i promise u calvin has not been on the best horse 3 out of 4 years but he still finds a way to win so part of this may be the jocks fault too

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA Your logic is flawed. It's not about who's best before the race, it's about who runs the best race at the time. That's like saying "Zenyatta should have won the 2010 Breeders Cup because she was the best going into it." It's a combination of a lot of things. Super Saver and Borel ran the best race that day no matter how many horses were in the field. A true Derby winner can win a field of 5 or a field of 25.

  • @starlightrider......did you really just say 5 horse fields and 25 horse fields are the same? im already done talking to someone so ignorant

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA You do realize that Secretariat ran the Belmont in 1973 against only 4 other horses? Does that make him not the greatest race horse of all time because he didn't go against a 25 horse field? The race doesn't look the same, but the best horse still comes out on top. Maybe you should check your facts before calling others ignorant.

  • @starlightrider.....Secretariat won by 31 lengths and it was over in the back stretch, no Derbys are ever over by the back stretch

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA What Secretariat did was "impossible." There have been many "impossible" Derby wins as well. Mine That Bird's come from behind? Monarchos' under 2 minute run? I feel like you should understand the sport of horse racing before claiming that they should lower the number of horses in a field. A horse with a desire to win will win, no matter who they're running against.

  • @starlightrider........i was born into a horse racing family, terrible argument

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA Just because you were born into something doesn't mean you have an understanding for it. I was born into a locksmithing family. Does that mean I automatically understand the world of locksmiths? You have illogical arguments and I'm done with this. Try doing some research next time before you make any claims.

  • @starlightrider......the differene between you and i is that your family was in locksmithing and you didnt stay in it, my family is in HRing and i have been in it my whole life....once again terrible agument

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA And just because you're in a business doesn't mean you know everything about it, or what's best for it.

  • @starlightrider.....when did i ever say i knew everything? but of the 67,000 views i have the highest rated comment on here, so its not just me who feels this way

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA

Why? To avoid pussy horses with no heart who get drawn out wide using their draw as an excuse for why they lost?? If you blame your draw, inside, outside, or in the middle, as the reason for why you lost, your horse is no champion... champions overcome the position that they draw..

  • @MrDraven37.......haha what are you even talking about? no matter what you say horses with no graded wins should not be in the Derby

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA

I was talking about your claim from several months ago that the 20 horse field limit has to decreased.. that is the claim of someone who is desperately looking for an excuse for why their horse was not good enough to win on the day.. otherwise known as the pussy, like yourself :D

  • @MrDraven37.....that must be how dumb you are, where did i ever say Ice Box was my horse?

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA

"Ice Box was the best horse May 1 and had to check 3 times, they should make it 15 horses." Of course it's not your horse, but that certainly sounds like you are making excuses for it running second.

  • @MrDraven37......no he is not my horse and i didnt bet him.....my point is simply the best team/horse does not always win------NOT ARGUABLE

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA

Awwww cute.. you think typing in caps makes your point. The point is that a truly great horse won't be bothered by a 20 horse field and doesn't need the field size reduced to make pussies like you happy. Oh, oh can I type in caps to make my point not arguable too?! :D

  • @MrDraven37......ok i see your point, Zenyatta is better that Secretariet because she had a better winning %.....man your stupid

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA

LOL Awwwww would you like a tissue? Hmmmm I don't I ever mentioned Zenyatta or Secretariet or compared the two? Or mentioned anything about winning %? Only that pussies like yourself look for excuses for why a certain horse didn't win, like field sizes. Here's a thought pussy, Ice Box didn't win because it wasn't good enough on the day. Still laughing at the Zen/Sec comment, really shows what a douche you are LOL

  • @MrDraven37...... haha i love how pissed you get, i think you had to resort to about 7 different personal attacks in that last post......nice vocabulary haha

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA i agree i was all for icebox that day but that 19 horse wall stopped him that day, bullshit

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA He may have been the FASTEST horse, not the best though.

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA Quit your f'ing crying. If you knew anything about horseracing then your statement MIGHT carry some weight. This is the biggest event i for this sport and has in the past and will continue to draw big numbers.

  • @mrbignasties lol he is just bitter that he lost a lot of money betting on ice box

  • @UrGatorBaitFLA no way dude. That is what makes the kentucky derby the kentucky derby, the huge field

  • my unvle got a trifecta

  • It was a good race, but I wish Devil May Care had won, she's my favorite.

  • @horseworldlover97 mine too but she's making her way to the time. still, it would have been cool for a filly to win

  • Calvin Bo-RAIL.

  • what a horrible race, Super Saver deserved it of course but the rest had terrible trips.

  • Gosh. What a muddy track! However, congratualations to Calvin Borel who won this run for the roses for the second consecutive year.

  • Super Saver is lucky to have Calvin Borel aboard!! He guided him to victory!! Hopefully he will be able to win the Triple Crown!!! Go Calvin!! Go Super Saver!!

  • GO TO WINSTON SALEM FALCONS

  • ladies and gents...take a look at the trip the 2 horse ice box gets...it was brutal...goood job by lezcano...keep your eye on the 2 and tell me with a cleaner trip he doesn't win the derby!

  • @DartsRme312 no he wuldn't win even with a cleaner trip...that pace is super fast in the slop for churchill and the only reason he came flying at the end was because he saved energy sittin in the back..he finished well but super savor was clearly the best..Noble's Promise ran 2nd best

  • @DartsRme312 totally agree, he was making a tremendous move around the turn, had to check at least twice and would have won by daylight with a clean trip. super saver had a great trip and was a deserving winner. looking at lucky , what a game horse, watch his trip , it was even worse that ice box. those three and eskendereya are my picks for the top 4 3 yos.

  • @ahsans786 YEAH...definitely..there are races to run my friend...if eskendereya...can come back and win say the travers/and maybe BC classic...he will be top 3yo...but if Super Saver wins the preak and other G1 he might be i don't see any other horse....getting top 3yo

  • @DartsRme312 Eskendereya has officially been retired and sold to jess jackson. idk where he will stand.

  • Wow! Preempted in Nashville! Just wow! How ironic. Great clip.

  • Ohh---- Calvin Borel's horse shot out of the gate, and went for the rail -- essentially blocking out Lookin at Lucky --- That was the move that won him the derby; If he's not able to do that at the Preakness -- I don't think they stand a chance of beating Lookin at Lucky. IMO.

  • Watch out for Ice Box if he goes in the Belmont> even if Lookin at Lucky didn't get bumped, he still would not have won. Pace was way too fast for this group. I had said to a few people that whichever horse goes to front runs the 1/2 in 46 or 47 and change is NOT going to win, especially in the sloppy going. Garcia was stupid to go that fast and think he was going to win. NONE of this field would be able to do that.

  • @crimsonskyfire Agree with you. Sidney's Candy had to be used to get clear from the 20 hole and couldnt rate after that. Shame he's not going in the Preakness, he's a very fast horse.

  • toothless, but his bank account is bigger than all of us combined, smh

  • Ice Box was much the best, Looking at Lucky got screwed over, and another inherited rail win for Toothless Borel. Dont worry, he will jump ship to another horse for the Preakness like in 2009. This Derby didnt mean a thing between the slop and the poor trips.

  • he beat the hell...out of that horse.

  • Ice Box wins this race 9 out of 10 times.......Calvin got lucky.

  • @jwelner Ice Box has never won this race, it's the Derby.

  • I didnt get why they raced, (devil may care) she was out of her leage. i like a filly that can win, but whatever/ at .least she tried

  • nice win but in a slow derby time, doubt we have a TC winner this year but only time will tell, gl to super saver!

  • you can buy a pretty kick ass toupee with $900,000

  • @clipboardcrotch or 9000 decent prostitutes for an hour each

  • @clipboardcrotch And some teeth for the winning jockey

  • I so hope Calvin & Super Saver can put in repeat performances in the Preakness & Belmont...we need a Triple Crown Winner already!!! Calvin is such a talented jockey

  • What a terrible ride on looking at lucky........stop bumped ........They should change the horse's name to looking at unlucky....

  • Thanks for posting, I live in Australia right now and couldn't watch. I miss home so much, especially during derby time!!

  • @kynta12 It was on Sky Racing

  • Calvin is the man!!!! He had to ask that horse for a lot! He was whipping the lights out of that horse!! Experience made him won that race. Ice Box could have easily won that race if it had someone like Calvin riding him. I think if Calvin was riding Ice Box that horse could have beat that field by far!! Ice Box made a very strong comeback at the end. Well thats just me thinking, i dont know much about horse racing but i love to watch it!

  • @rider4evah the Kentucky Derby is 20 horses almost every year

  • Fabulous! Calvin is DA BOMB! He knows what to do with a good horse. YAY! So glad this was here because I was at a fundraiser yesterday. Thank you!!!

  • I had Paddy O'Prado to win, then in the following order: Ice Box, Noble's Promise and Line of David. Oh well, I got one right. Paddy was impressive! I want him in the Preakness. I wasn't too thrilled by Super Saver himself--just the way Calvin rode. Gah, jockeys, watch for Calvin.

  • that was a very large field this year. Haha

  • I'm so glad one of the horses I betted on got first. I was pushing more for Looking at Lucky and Sidney's Candy though. My dad told me Ice Box was going to get secon d or third but I didn't bet on him. Would of got 20 more bucks. Oh well.

  • I was there

Why does it rain every Derby?

  • Thank you so much for posting this- it got preempted in Nashville because of the extreme weather!

  • @psbh my pleasure. We've had our share of weather in Little Rock. Stay safe in the sister city.
