  • hellomoto75 - Let me guess... you came from the MTV generation. Try closing your eyes.

  • I've heard 'The Doors' sound was heavily influenced by 'Eric Burdon and The Animals.'

  • best voice in music

  • boring as shit, lame

  • snajper4141 nie tylko Ty :/

  • Urodziłem się nie w tym świecie w którym powinienem...

  • we gotta die to get out of this place to go some other place we dont dont recognize

  • Eric Burdon had such an underrated voice!

  • A lost classic!

  • loving those Animals!

  • I agree about the marketing part... many many artists and songs I heard here made me go out an buy to support these artists.

  • The animals knew the value of dead crack whores even then ^^.

    (I don't meen to offend any crack-users)

  • they captured the bleakness of being trapped and wanting to break out like no other geordies have ever done before or since

  • Eric had that rebel look, they were definitley a cool band.

  • after 3 hours in the DMV, this song comes to mind.

  • ey just turned 18

  • Fake?

  • biggpiston I relate totally!!!

  • This the most heartfelt song ever!!!

  • i was born years to late and missed out on th sixties , came into my prime in the eighties when music really became horrible, if anyone builds themselves a time machine give me a call cause i need to go back fifty years

  • The Animals, like the Beatles, also took their sound from Delta blues as well as the Nashville and Bakersville sounds. When I hear a bunch of fogies (I can say that now, I'm 30) talking about the music of today like this, it makes me wonder where they were during the 90s. I'll probably be saying the same thing in 20 years. But the truth is, some works of art have staying power, and some don't--even in Soviet Russia. There were plenty of 1960s bands that are no longer around.

  • RTC Great Lakes, 1969... our daily rant!

  • @ joao43123 To me its what your grew up with and at some point your brain registers something as sounding good. If you grew up listening to bands like ac/dc, metallica, gnr etc whether it be because of a different era or different circle of friends or different parents I believe your taste in music would be completely different. Yes music artists are there too make money but its not because people cant think for themselves its because that is what sounds the best and makes them feel the best.

  • It's too bad they don't make music like this today. What happened to the music industry?

  • @thetruthisoutthere32 The problem is exactly what you said, music became an industry. Its a product like anything else. People dont make music because its good today..they make it for the money and for the terrible taste of the majority. Not saying they didnt do it for the money before..but they had also other priorities.

  • @joao43123 - I can't see how they can even sell most of the crap that's being produced today. Are people really deaf when it comes to quality and substance? Or is the problem that people have become such sheep that they'll buy whatever is marketed towards them? Or has the agenda to degrade, debase, and dumb down the population become an overriding consideration even above that of profits?

  • @thetruthisoutthere32 I think its kind of all you said..its impossible to have an agreement about the reasons why people became "deaf". But i believe that one day music will turn back how it was..once i've heard a guy saying that music is like history and we are in like the middle age..someone just gotta break these patterns we have today. haha i found it crazy, kind of dumb, but cool.

  • @joao43123 thats also a good point... people get so used to current music that its hard to invent something different. I had a band a few years ago and i remember how hard it was to create a good rock n'roll song..so we made a song but it was kind of hardcore (by that time my friends were big fans of that style)haha and i really hate that.

  • @joao43123 - It's pretty cyclical. It ebbs and floods. But there is no predictable regularity. We just happen to be in a serious dry spell right now, at least I hope.

Why is it that virtually all of the good music can out of first world countries? Have we crossed the threshold of oppression where it the kind of cornucopia of expression we once had has become impossible. Are we tending more towards the "former" Soviet Union and China, where it becomes a complete anomaly.

  • well i will help you to feel like you are in heaven

  • back when music was actually music....

  • we sung during basic training i am nam era and womens army corp

  • eric burdon has greasy hair....jst sayin....

  • Comment removed

  • Whenever I was able to watch one of the Filipino bands in Nam , they always brought down the house with this song. Hue- Phu Bai 69-70

  • lol I am new here and i can be shy and nasty too

  • @alejandrabernard2265

hey secksy why don't you get your nasty asshole over to my place and we can trade pokemon cards if you know what i mean.

  • When i hear this tune i wanna rebel, and boldly raise two hands, flipping the bird to the world,.....still........we gotta get out of this place.

  • man i like how Eric Burdon Voice in this song make this song sound darker its the same thing with Johnny Cash everytime his voice got darker so did the song its really cool

  • acelera adrenalina muiito loco

  • For you young people.....bring up all the revolutionary songs of the British invasion of the '60s......then the American groups that caught on and took over the 70s & '80s minus fricking disco.....and enjoy what I lived in my youth.

  • Eric Burdons stage presence was second to none, still like Spill The Wine over all other songs from him.

  • man what a BASS pick up :D

  • Requested it every DAY at OSAN AFB!

  • @1Beaker2 My older brother did the same at Laughlin, in Del Rio!

  • This is classic rock and rock and roll at it's best. I love the song. The Animals are so cool!

  • this song was our national anthem,da nang,1968....navycolt41

  • @navycolt41

My dad was in the AF at Tuy Hoa and he told me about this song. Thank you for your service. Stand tall and stay proud.

  • @navycolt41 God bless ya!! You are a soul full of rock'n'roll!

  • i can not get this beat out my head, life around me is moving to the beat of this song for like the last 3 days, its awsome

  • love the sideburns and want one of those lamps!!!

  • Never gets old

  • @Trojanman152152 .... BS... This wasn't even \written by the animals... it was an american songwriter... the animals just got it via there producer and consequently released it first.... to say it is about the animals leaving Newcastle is ridiculous... where do you get your facts, clearly not from anywhere reliable - try looking it up next time before making incorrect statements and misinforming more people!

  • Brilliant song by the Geordie group The Animals about leaving 60s Newcastle, that became an anthem in the US for Vietnam veterans too.

  • The scenery looks like it´s after a war.

  • ehm I am sweet, charming and very young with a lot of energy

  • hanoi hilton

  • somewhere in the late seventies they decided to quit making good music, i want to live in the sixties and seventies,

  • @biggpiston Amen to that!

  • This is badass!

  • this is the new theme song for Japan

  • Just awesome.

  • eric whit his magig sound. great

  • We gotta get outta dis place!

  • Great post ingore the ignorant and naive! keep posting. They really do not understand what music is all about love and not hate.

  • Every one of you has a voice. If you are young, use your influence to change your world! People think because they are young they cannot do anything about the things they find wrong in society. But you still have your life ahead of you, you have the most influence. (In fact, an example would be music. the music industry is curved towards YOU now). you have a voice in you for a reason. speak up. the world won't change on its own. do your part, love the one you're with :), and be the movement.

  • what a voice

  • They were the first band I ever saw in concert. Hermit Hermitts was opening act. I remember wearing my cobalt blue granny glasses. Later in life I would come to meet & ride with Eric on the Famous "Love Ride" from Glendale, CA. While waiting for the Love Ride to start, we were standing around talking. I had to tell him he was the 1st band I was to see in concert. He just laughed & said your making me feel old kid. That year of the Love Ride I think I might have won the egg toss.

  • @klejackson

They were the first band I saw in concert too! In San Bernardino, CA. I'm so glad I have that memory!!

  • @joyhaydon Great memories indeed. I had a friend who just saw him play up north. He said the group put on a great show, like he hasn't changed, even though he is now 70 yrs old.

  • HAPPY 70TH TODAY DADDY, THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE FOR US, I LOVE YOU MORE THEN WORDS CAN SAY, MAY THIS SONG PLAY FOREVER IN OUR HOUSE AS A TRIBUTE TO YOU AND THE FANTASTIC LIFE YOU HAVE GIVEN THIS FAMILY! WATCH MY DADDY IN BETTER TIMES HIS HAIR BEEN TURNING GREY HE'S BEEN WORKING SO HARD YEAHHHHHHHHHH!

  • It was our anthem in Vietnam in 1968, Cool! Kui

  • Eric Burdon=One sexy beast.

  • And now we are all singing the South Vietnamese national hymn

♫WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE♪

  • One great song. Where can I get the British version of the song?

  • I gotta get out of this place.

  • That's Jimi Hendrix's manager, Chas Chandler, playing the bass.

  • Very apt for UK Town Centres at the moment

  • i wat jy doet ja ik weet het ook niet met jou je houd van my ik ben niet happy met the wrong man plaats maar kan hy mn real feelings reading, pause don,t leave,me i say to you i need you peetypause

  • hamburger hill ftw!

  • This was a great FTA song at Camp Eagle.....peace60s is right about singing this so loud - when we were soooooooooooooooooooo drunk that you couldn't talk for hours...

  • I proclaim this the new national anthem of the US!

BTW, what's up w/the dead looking women?

  • @6motion6 Good Question, i confess i didnt notice until you pointed it out.

  • @6motion6 And I proclaim you to be an idiot.

  • @XMIR10C

I proclaim you to be a Tea Party member. I can't wait to dance on your grave.

  • @6motion6 lol u dance? faggggg

  • Great old Black And Wite Video.

  • Not sure if bassist is tall or eric is short

  • @BarrioPunkRock short, tal, fat ,thin it's all relative, but the VOICE so powerful, nd delivered apparently without any effort. What happened to him anyway, alive? singing? gone? Anyone?

  • @TheSarahfran Eric Burdon is alive and well and still touring.

  • @TheSarahfran Just played a concert up North, an old friend of mine went and he put on a great show, with all the hits. He's around 70 now.

  • THESE GUYS COULD HAVE AT LEAST REFRAINED FROM FIRING UP THE REEFER BEFORE THIS PERFORMANCE! WOW!

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES That is the worst advice you could ever give a musician.

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES WHY T. F. should they?

    performance was perfect as is.

  • @TheSarahfran - BECAUSE ITS NOT NICE! O.K.?

  • @93MickyD1 yeah, yeah, i shoulda known that... : ) i was only 7 and "house of the rising sun" woke me up in the middle of the night, and scared me...

  • Eric Burdon's voice is fucking golden

  • In basic training in 1967 we'd play this when we could and we knew we had to get out of that place; it was a relief to hear these guys shouting about it....they were on our side.

  • If anybody is goin back to 65 in there time machine, I need a ride

  • @IMadeThisForRock Bring me too!

  • @IMadeThisForRock

    Best comment ever.......

  • @IMadeThisForRock I understand if you lived in that time period. I cannot argue against that, everyone has a home. But what I don't understand is how everyone treats that time like a great period of social acceptance, and love, when in fact, so many had to fight for it. And when you compare that time to this, it almost seems like we need another grace period, another progressive movement like that. We need to root out the corruption from politics, stop the rape of earth, and get our country back

  • @kingfarouk2 what were doing right now is pathetic and I know that time wasnt perfect.. but it was better

  • @IMadeThisForRock So do I.

  • @IMadeThisForRock Truckers on Satellite 6006 can give you a ride.

  • @IMadeThisForRock still working on the flux capacitor

  • @IMadeThisForRock - Swing by for me on your way out... it was my era and sorely missed!!

  • @IMadeThisForRock Can I come??

  • @gnidder Yeah just make sure to bring your favorite hangover antidote because people don't fuck around in the 60's

  • @IMadeThisForRock LOL Nice

  • @IMadeThisForRock And bring an HD camera with you.

  • @IMadeThisForRock

    me too

  • Sky Pilot

  • WHO sent me here?

  • @scottyea anonymous

  • Who in the HELL disliked this? 20 cases of teen angst out there, apparently. This song SLAYS. It cracks me up to watch Eric belt out this song with so little apparent effort.

  • was this in 62? or was it 63 i cant quite remember right, and i cant find it through google. wtf

  • @TravenCraft probably '65, they hadn't arrived here yet. remember the beatles were first in '63

  • This version is beyond parity!

  • awesome comment peace60s

  • I'll admit this is a ripper version of a ripper song, but I reckon The Angels version is better. So much more energy provided by Doc Neeson (One of the all-time great singers) & the Brewster brothers!

  • @Gav1959

    Are you mental?

  • @pupsmaschine I suppose being married & having teenage daughters can test ones sanity, but I think I've come through ok!I was merely expressing an opinion(They are like arseholes- everyone has them!)!Just because my opinion is different to yours doesn't make me more or less sane than you! I DID say the Animals version was a ripper(Great)I was basing my opinion on hearing both versions over many years! If you are basing your opinion without listening to both versions it proves you are a WANKER!

  • @Gav1959

I did listen to both versions. And this is better. Not just my opinion. LOL

    Get a life.

  • @pupsmaschine As I mentioned earlier, Opinions are like arseholes- everyone has them! I DID also mention that I liked both versions. I am glad you did listen to both versions, as that was my concern- that you were basing your opinion without listening to both. If you have a different opinion to me, fine. That doesn't make you better ir worse than me! You telling me to get a life , however shows a distinct lack of maturity on your behalf!

  • should have left tears ago

  • Nobody could belt out a song as good as Eric

  • rocking out in 3rd grade ..little hippy :)

  • i hate boomers, they had the best music and more of it than they knew what to do with!great to be able to rock with your parents!

  • questa canzone mi e sempre piaciuta e mi piacera' sempre

  • WALKER BOY BORN AND BRED

  • So cool..

  • Dude thanks so much for posting this! This is the coolest!

  • Nothing today really comes near to this this....they have an earthy passion.

  • Awesome bass-track!

  • I was born in 1982 and because my parents were awesome about music i got to experience a lot of different kinds. I have to say that The Animals are one of my favorite bands.. i love all the bands from that era, i swear i must have been reincarnated from some one in that time.... Eric Burdon has such a great voice, love him!!!

  • Great LIVE version! Tnx.

  • The most popular song in Viet Nam ever!

  • @mokshaone

    Amen brother

  • i love this too. always have. i kind of think these guys were better than the stones, but got some bad managers and breaks. i have this on cd too and a bunch of other songs of theirs as well. i love listening to these old songs - these are good. what ever happened to music? my old hippy mama died. now i am dancing alone.

  • Tenebrius1963 - The killer bassline is played by Chas Chandler who discovered a young guy called Jimi Hendrix - the rest is history !

  • Killer bassline!

  • Totally...Reminds me of the busy bassline in Panic Switch by Silversun Pickups.

  • @Tenebrius1963 I kinda like the flute.

  • used to sing this to my self when entering my place of work many moons ago final did

  • wow all i can say is that Eric Burdon has the voice no man can sing like him

  • Me and my family used to sing this when we worked at jobs we hated...lol, it was a great theme song

  • For someone that young with a voice that strong....WOW.

  • Great song! One of my favorite in Vietnam.

  • they look like the beatles

  • @thierryhotdogboy they look like the beatles, but they are DARK. any dark music that has existed in the last 40 (actualy 50 now) years can be blamed on them. and when i say dark, i mean Dark with a capital D.

  • This has currently become one of my catch phrases in this world we live. Grew up with the Animals, but wasn't a big fan until now. You who didn't grow up in the 60s and 70s, you don't know what you missed. The stuff that passes for "music" nowdays is lousy.

  • thank you so much ,,,, better .. better better

  • It's our theme song, Monday to Friday, 9-5!

  • even the animals could not do a better version of this song!

  • @theclarkey100 OK man..lol.

  • I used to listen to this song when we boarded Chopper's headed for the Bush ! It always fired me up because i knew i was headed for Hell in the Rice Paddy's and the Jungles of Vietnam ! Thank You Animals !

  • i like the strung out girls

  • 17 people are tone deaf. You gotta be kidding. Eric Burdon is the best.

  • 17 people are tone deaf. You gotta be kidding. Eric Burden is the best.

  • Eric Burdon = best wailer of ALL TIMES!! And with that baseline settin' the song up...well...pure raw XTC.

  • Remember listening to this years ago, blast!

  • This was the number one song that was played at China Beach during my two tours in the Nam back in '66-'67 and '69.

  • Respond to this video...

  • Happy Birthday Eric!!!

  • Hope you tube realizes that there are alot of people who will pay bucks to own these recordings again...I still have many albums and have people bugging me all the time for them...If I didn't I would definatly be visiting amazon and probably will soon.I don't have everything. Thanks for the song and video...Kate

  • Sung this song at work sept 09 not been back since

  • Happy Birthday Eric Burdon. Awesome.

  • i was at Applebee's the other day and the bartender started singing this when it came on overhead. :D
