  • Without Religion, good people do good things, evil people do evil things, Religion makes good people do evil things - Steven Weinberg b 1933

  • Nice work by him...he was really able to get the sympathy of the peoples.

But the sympathized are the real problems because it is their extremist ideologies which are keeping them stuck in 7th century

  • holy crap people hes trying to spread a message abotu peace, unity, harmony and beauty. why the hatred and opression?

  • Catastrophic health care?

A very unfortunate choice of words.

    That sounds horrible.

I don't want catastrophic health care. I want good health care.

  • This is a great message. The more we learn the less we fight. It's hard to take up guns against someone you know and, dare I say it, like.

  • Wake up Pakistan people!

The Swedish government is helping USA in killing muslims!

  • Begging Time

  • My name is Akmed, i am a Dead Terrorist and "I will kill you".

    :D

  • Fuck religion and screw God.

  • @YoLninYo

    Yes...It's ALL the West's fault.

Nothing to do with Saudi supplying those "petrodollars" to build madrassas and NOT universities and modern schools.

Nothing to do with al Huq's Islamisation of Pakistan in the 70's to suit his own agenda.

Modern India and PK came into existence at the same time and had the chance to grow in the same way. Now look at them, living conditions in the two countries are centuries apart. It's Islam you fool, how much evidence do you damn well need?

  • @aussisam01 How much land do you see the muslims got although they ruled india for a thousand years even though total muslim population is 45% in the subcontinent? Also india is the worlds 2nd largest muslim populous more than pakistan, and neighboring countries. What was the first thing you saw from india?

culture(bollywood pioneered by muslims), tajmahal(muslims) even indias nuke/space programs today all of its achievement belongs to indian muslim Abdul kalam(aka Missile man), cities etc.

  • @aussiesam01 it has nothing to do with america murdering mosadegh to isntall a shah and savak or the usa funding the taliban agaisnt the commies. have u herd of sufism?

  • Utter rubbish! Let's see some millions of Pakistani's out in the streets condemning the terrorists. Let's see the madrassas that indoctrinate people being shut down and the hate preachers jailed. I'll be mmore incined to listen when we don't see statistics showing that huge numbers of Pakistanis don't support suicide bombing and murdering people in the name of Islam.

Your actions speak louder than your words Pakistan.

  • guess what, they don't. Since your ignorance is obvious, I'll not bother to post refrences, but just look it up.

What Pakistan is reaping are the rewards of western intelligence agencies and the arab stooge countries raising a generation of poor in madrassahs (paid for by the Saudi petro dollars, and ) harvested by the CIA and other agencies for their anti-communism campaigns of the 70's and 80s.

Stewpid western jackasses, however, choose to completely ignore this and make comments like urs

  • Dude just show him how CIA took down democracy in Iran placing the shah a dictator for oil and anticommunist hysteria boiled up by UK. He might feel some shock, but its the truth. Some assholes here on youtube will never learn. they are just arrogant fucks.

  • while he talks, a fleet sails towards Pearl Harbour...

  • I really feel bad when ppl are discriminated in the name of religion & an entire nation is tagged as terrorist. Its pure politics, most of the junta doesnt have this mindset. Let there be peace everywhere.

  • The more we learn about one another, the more we learn how much more we are alike than different. All brothers and sister on this spaceship we call earth.

  • I thought he was going to float on a magic carpet. Joke he's right it behooves us. thanks Man on carpet.

  • I love how he talks about Pakistanis work to get there and only 1 person stands up for the majority of it.

  • @elminz look again...there were 3

  • @javed86 Hm, my bad. Although for most of that section there was only 1 standing.

  • That was really moving and I wish his speech could have gone on longer! The power of pictures, videos and stories is the greatest asset "average" people have when speaking truth to power. All I hear from my government is that Middle Eastern people are potential terrorists who deserve to die. I never believed that lie. It's inspiring to be a witness into a window of these people's lives. More of that please. Asher Hasan deserve a medal for having the courage for providing this presentation.

  • The US government is constantly telling you "Middle Eastern people are potential terrorists who deserve to die?" Really? Could you point me to a speech where Obama or Bush said that? Or a senator or congressman?

  • TED has disappointed me.

  • be hove

  • War is war. Peace is necessary so we can love our global neighbors as we should be loving ourselves. LOVE & PEACE

  • I didn't think it was boring at all. I read a small handful of comments criticizing TED for this video and the ideologies herein. I don't know a lot. But I do know there is a lot of truth in this post and it's a good thing to be reminded of regardless of the culture and what you may think of it.

  • Not expected from TED ! Boring nothing special.. its not just pakistan.. every single country can fit into whats being shown !

  • Pakistan is just using these emotional tactics to get more financial help from USA and use that money to breed more terror machines of both Human and Non-Human Forms.

It is well said that a person who hates other becomes himself a hatred personality. Thats whats happening in pakistan, their country is based on hatred against all so called non-muslim countries and frankly speaking one can't run away from its root which is 'hate' !!

  • Are u serious? The only person spreading hatred is you, for not recognizing peace efforts. You need a serious change in mind-set! Get help !

  • Definitlely pakistan is doing efforts 4 peace but still 'hate' dominates a large section of the people's mindset who r active behind d scenes of politics there.

As far as India is concerned then we aren't also clean, we have so many naxals emerging but still the dominant part of the politics is surprisingly creating a good balance between such things and progress, its just one is worst and other is bad.

The only hope is the 'education' which is slowly but SURELY happening.

    Peace !

  • This narrow viewpoint ignores the reality that all societies are gripped by internal ideological struggles, and that this view of a backwards, warlike Pakistan is offset by an undercurrent of change there. Your comments are no more accurate than those from people who say "The USA is a big bully who wants to control the world", which also ignores a dramatic part of the population struggling to ensure this is not the case.

  • so what according to u is Root Cause of this problem ? I.e Just 'internal ideological issues' or something else? Please elaborate your answer to help me to understand your point of view more better. I do not hate USA and i do NOT hate Pakistan either. I'm expecting little bit more practical problem analysis and at least a first step in resolving that problem in practical terms for we as south-asians.

I do acknowledge efforts of that 'small' section of struggling population and salute them.

  • I believe the root cause is religion. Religion teaches groups that they are "right", they are chosen, they are holy, and they are morally justified in their actions. The fundamentalist Christian movement in the USA is just as scary as the Taliban, perhaps moreso because they actually believe that the end-times are coming soon. Religion poisons everything.

  • Its not the religion, its d 'misinterpretation' of the religion's sacred teachings according to their follower's perception that has created this problem.

Its d gap between followers of a spiritual leader and their perception 2 d teachings which let them pass that 'MODIFIED' or 'MISUNDERSTOOD' information to the coming generations.

But where there are DEMONS there are always ANGELS as well :) So lets concentrate on playing our small individual part to spread this awareness as far as we can!

  • Where there are Angels, there are always demons.

I think Humanity will be better served if we all abandoned all forms of superstition entirely.

  • lol...... from angels and daemons i meant good and bad people... anyways the nutshell of conversation is that we are there from where we started ;) ;) ..

  • I used them in their literal sense.

Believing in God creates room for believing in witchcraft because all = superstition.

  • So according to you being an 'Atheist' is the solution for the problem caused by the religious divide??

  • Exactly.

Without religion, there's no reason to reduce a fellow man's humanity simply because you think your God considers him the scum of the earth/infidel (since he doesn't believe in your wonderful God). If we get rid of God entirely, we won't kill each other from religiously motivated reasons anymore.

  • Judging the concept of GOD on merely basis of interaction of people which u intereacted directly or indirectly might b less justified.

Its NOT the GOD that creates hatred, its the misinterpretation of GOD world according to one own's needs.

Its nature of Humans to KILL and SURIVIVE. May be the GOD is included in that or not!

Excluding god will only snatch the remaining 'pscylogical' support on which many people live. Its more like the MIND OVER MATTER i.e BELIEF which creates wonders.

  • @vibes992000 Use grammar, fuckhead. No one's going to take you seriously until you stop capitalizing words to try and prove points and use whole words instead of letters. This isn't texting, and you're not holding a cell phone.

  • there is maximum WORD LIMIT imposed for the comment posting (400 charaters i guess) and this is a reason that I have to simulate texting based scenario here.

Using ABUSIVE language suits perfectly on your name and image. Good, keep it going :) . I am reading all your comments.

Thanks for replying and keeping me enlightened for your point of views on this subject.

  • So essentially your response to my pointing out your immaturity is to stalk me? Way to prove me right.

  • @Corey897

It was who who has objections on my writing and grammer skills so I guess you are the one who stalked me. I'm a south asian and English is not my primary language. Stop judging people on basis of their english skills .

Speaking a good english or writing a good english is not solution of all problems.

As far as my issue for making capital words are concerned then I will take care of that and you also take care of your abusive language as I am not living in United States!

  • You so crazy. Go away now, crazy person.

  • same comments for you too dear.

  • WTF are you talking about? Why do you think the USSR "reduced the humanity "of countless east europeans? Was there some secret god involved there?

What you seemingly espouse -- militant and belligerant atheism -- is as foolhardy, clueless, holier-than-thou and murderous (capability wise) as any other religion.

Rational, existential enlightenment and barren, mad-dog, belligerant at all costs "atheism" are not equivalent.

    P.S. I am a-religious.

  • @Mrmoc7 or perhaps respect for all religion>?

Christian, Jew, Muslim, shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the mystery, unique and not to be judged. - rumi

  • @veritbo

Respect for all religion is an inane ideal when each and every religion explicitly asserts its superiority over all forms of worship. How are the followers of any religion supposed to *respect* other religions and still proclaim that they believe in their book? The only people capable of *respecting* all religions are the non-religious or those with a less domineering religion like Buddhism. Don't expect a Muslim to *respect* Christianity, not in this lifetime.

  • @Mrmoc7 Don't confuse religion with spinoffs of Christianity. And don't confuse the misinterpretations of the spinoffs as the true spinoff

  • stop talking in cliches you memorized from "athiest" websites. If you're so against religion, then stop using language that implies such things.

Where there are angels? You mean Fairies ... or did you mean Unicorns?

There are no such things as Angels or Demons. Half cooked a-theism is _ALSO_ superstition.

  • @Briterican001 Misinterpreted religion. Actual religion is glorious. I'm a Buddhist, though that's not completely true. The core aspects of any religion are based on detaching you from desired and enhancing spiritual growth

  • @Briterican001 really the usa isnt abully never heard of phillipnes or mosadegh or lubamba or nicaragua, batists, the bay of pigs? the iran iraqw war, the role they plaeyd in afhgansitan wiht the commie regime?

  • What do they teach in those Muslim schools in Pakistan. Is it peace and love for all mankind? Please enlighten me.

  • we all know ordinary ppl are nice n all... but brainwash them , giv them AK47s and then those same nice ppl can bcome monsters... plz talk to us when u rid ur country of those brainwashers...put ur house in order and then invite us as guests ....

  • Some ordinary people aren't nice at all, with or without brain washing. Ignorance make them haters. When these haters can learn about love, then they should be invited.

Never wait to learn to love for there will always be brain washers and ignorant people. The cure is communication and understanding.

  • @stallone123: Which is exactly was TED is about.

It's tempting to call you yourself ignorant as I can't quite figure what you actually meant by your comment, but it comes out as "don't talk to anybody until everybody has learnt love."

Please elaborate on your comment and prove my first impression wrong.

  • Let me try to understand this TED thing.

    Does the Truth even matter??????

The Truth is; Gods do not Kill People.

    People with Gods Kill People.

    JQ

  • @CanyonLakeTX

Does that JQ thing stand for joking ?

either way it is in bad taste :(

  • Peace from Pakistan? How about starting with peace IN Pakistan?

  • does he know Babu from Seinfeld?

  • @superdiza Wow, that is some fine delusional babbling there friend.

  • war is not peace. it does not go literally nor sybolically or in any other way. War is war and peace is non existent. people even forget or choose to ignore many of our country are at war.

  • Great speech people are beginning to wake up to the deception. We are all One Humanity and we are all connected. Say No to War Yes to Peace. Spread the Love and listen to Bill Hicks:

Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a

slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively,

there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.

    Bill Hicks

  • On the average, it costs 1 million dollars to maintain one soldier. 1 million dollars can support 25 jobs. Is war really worth it?

  • well said.

  • Is war between governments or citizens?

  • Or individuals?

  • Governments. If citizens spoke to each other they would realise they are no different really. It has been shown in a few films but not for some time.

  • Illuminating!!

  • There are hundreds of thousands of Internally Displaced Persons in Pakistan. I live in the US, and I needed to see this. My tax dollars are paying for drone aircraft to shoot missiles at some of these villages, I fear. It bothers me, even if it doesn't bother you.

  • @1:44 "My name is Zamin and i am an IDP. Do you see me on the other side of this fence? Do i matter or really exist for you?"

No Zamin, you don't exist. Because a fucking 8 year old kid does not write like that and it's obvious you are just being exploited for the sake of a photo, to make it seem more emotionally "punching".

You are clearly a fictional character.

  • lol. smart, didn't think of that

  • Comment removed

  • No, because shit actually exists.

  • Ironically there is probably a verse somewhere that says "You plant seeds, but it is Allah that makes the Earth fertile"

  • something that doesn't exist cannot be called "shit" sorry.

  • And Ayn Rand was a terrible "philosopher", a charlatan and a plaigarist. So what?

  • Nice try.

  • Finding peace in Pakistan is like finding gold in a toilet.

It's pretty unlikely and goes against wisdom, experience and common sense.

  • @Clausfarre

    LOL -- Brilliant!!!

  • by saying this, you just flushed your wisdom into the same very toilet!

  • And the anglo-american propaganda machine.

  • wut isnt propoganda

  • @bmed19 what you have to search for yourself and is not given to you on a plate

  • well said. but to what extent is ur interpretation of something truely "yours"? Can we ever see anything as it really is without external influences clouding our perception?

  • watch out! this message of peace comes with a nuke!!!

  • It's important to know that the people of a country don't all agree with the politics of their country, especially countries inwhich the ruling groups are not elected. Not everyone in Pakistan is a terrorist.

  • @LudicrousTachyon

that's crazy man! that's like saying not everyone in iran is a terrorist.

why are you bashing america? why do you hate jesus christ?

  • Are you trolling or just that stupid?

  • @Invaishir

im glad you can't detect sarcasm

  • Haha, you're right. My comment was pretty obvious.

  • straight cats and dogs?? why not the gay ones...

  • He said stray not straight.

  • Yay for a failed state based on terrorism and rabid animosity against the world's largest pluralistic democracy, now playing the sympathy card.

Yes, India is growing the way it is because they are smarter, less religiously brainwashed into Islam and Islamism, and more progressive than you. How shameless do you have to be to spend all your resources and energy on being a thorn in the side of India and then ask for sympathy for the poverty of your country? Shame.

  • "If religion is the opium of the masses, then for me, music is my one and only ganja."

    What a great line.

  • The paki , now playing the sympathy card.

The truth is there is no basis of pakistan as a nation , only hating Hindu and India holds them together. ( there is no moral in there life except killing Hindus ) after 26 nov 2008 there were party's and special sweet distribution in pakistan ( for 10 paki killing 200 Hindus )

  • So u'd blame the entire nation for the actions of a few lunatics! There are many hindus who hate muslims even when they are good ppl from their own country India and they too celebrated the barbaric massacre of Muslims in the Gujarat riots! Such ppl have no religion, identity or moral code and they are not a representative of the country or religion they happen to be born in!

  • Political "interests" and the sake of getting votes from the ignorant sections of the public is what is wrecking the true potential of South Asia...and that is esp. true for Pakistan unfortunately.

  • excellent speech!

  • Islamiphobia - OH NO they are taking over Ted Talks as wel - HAHAHA paranoid freaks

  • I don't comprehend as to why it's rated so low.

  • nice

  • Beautiful speech.

  • "It behooves us to transcend our differences. To celebrate our diversity. To leverage our common humanity."

Best line in the whole video. Great TED talk.

  • Yeah, to bad most of the world doesn't follow that line.

  • Well formulated.
