Libetta, credit to you. MorganDrake88 has clearly produced many world-class tenors that outshine the technically inprofficient Bocell and are obviously infinitely more famousi, yet you stand up for your man. I don't really like opera, yet I'll listen to Bocelli all day long. he's transcended it. If that makes him a pop singer then who cares? Traditionalists are stuck in their ways and it means they can't enjoy life to the full.
It doesn't matter what you think either. What credentials empower you to make these asinine comments? One of the greatest tenors to ever grace the stage! Count yourself privileged to enjoy this rare, god-given talent.
No, Pavarotti, Domingo, Lanza, Wunderlich, Del Monaco, Diego Flores, Björling - those are tenors that you might describe as one of the greatest to ever grace the stage. Bocelli is a very good pop singer, but as an opera singer he has nowhere near the vocal technique or dexterity of real singers.
@01jocooper Don't listen to them, pal, you're fucking right about everything you said. You can't make people think the right way if they don't understand.
Diego Flores!? First, Bocelli is a great tenor! Only if you sing you can understand what he makes! And you don't understand what you are saying about Bocelli. Diego Flores!? Please...
yes it can, for you at least because that's all you know to do. no matter how "crappy" the sound may be, the breathing technique is inherent and nothing to do with a "good" sound with regards to sustain. listen to his last note in Occhi d fatta which he holds for 19 seconds
unfortunately for you, you never understand the difficulty of holding a breath for that long. even a very good tenor friend of mine has praised Bocelli's breathing technique. i don't you if you detest even that particular subject because of his being a "pop" singer.
Libetta knows it well! Even the real experts enjoy the Bocelli's breathing technique. Allways there is some compromiss between breathing and volume! But with Bocelli this compromiss is always harmonious and the outcome is very wonderfull! Listen "Sogno D'Amore" (Lizt) and you will see what only Bocelli can do! Mis besos
so let's get this straight, why do you say these things of Andrea and opera? could it be that you or the people you "train" have no performing career in singing?
They have performing career, but they're not the kind of singers that reach success by singing pop songs, and doing tv shows. And of course, they're not that SPECIAL because they have good eyes. And it's not to be cruel or so, because the only "liric" singer that is famous without being that good is Bocelli, and he's more "sensational" because he can't see. He couldn't sing with an entire orchestra, his voice is not powerful enough. That's why he sings with microphone.
so you think singing pop is not good? or like prohibited? all singers of the past have sung mixed genre. if you compare it to piano, it's like saying one can only play liszt and not other composers such as a gottschalk
I didn't say that. Even Pavarotti sang pop and he still was and will be the best in my opinion. I'm just saying that it's hard to believe that Bocelli is not called a "pop singer", he's called a Tenore and lirical singer. But there are hundred and more that are better than him, and they're not "famous" all around the world because opera is not a media like tv, and the audience is way smaller.
well if that's your concern, i'll you this. i think that globally, he is recognized as equally at home with both genre, no matter what critics of the classical world say of him. if most classical singers are not so famous they could always try some more effective marketing strategy, being sooo purist won't do you good
Andrea's High C on the last note blew my mind away! The song isn't even written with a High C at the end for the tenor!?

Sure. If someone find a male pop singer who can reach such beautiful notes (at the end or whatever), please call me. I'm curious.
InfernoDaBaka 2 years ago
I just wish they'd quit making him sing with others who can't measure up to his incredible vocal beauty. He melts my soul.

Ummm. He can sing what he wants. If a duet is what he wants then he needs someone else.
Second of all, he sucks. So it doesn't matter what you think.

The only fault I can find in this piece is that Andrea sometimes holds the notes too long at some points.
Jextxadore 4 years ago
but nobody can hold it as long as he does!
libetta 4 years ago
A lot of people can, actually.
01jocooper 2 years ago
no. show me
libetta 2 years ago
@libetta I can hold a burp longer than that. Does it count?
Bah.
If the sound is crappy, you can hold it for even 2 minutes, but it's always going to suck bad.

I know what I'm talking about. I'm an opera coach, I trained singers with piano, and unluckily for you, I know Bohème perfectly.
And based on what you say, a scuba diver could be the best singer in the world.
And anyway, it's very easy to last 19 seconds when you sing with a microphone. =)

nice training by the way. training metal style music. lol
libetta 2 years ago
@libetta
That has nothing to do with my job.
I'm a classical pianist, and I DO like metal music, and play also in a band. That doesn't mean I don't understand anything of opera.
;)
