I didn't know the original Ma Rainey but worked with Memphis Ma Rainey and Little Laura Dukes who kept that music alive for so many years. It is nice to see someone respect what Memphis is so well known for. Kudos to you Cyndi.
Cyndi Lauper is the most underappreciated vocal artist of our time. Its a travesty. I just downloaded the album. Her voice raises the hair on the back of my neck. While others in her genre use the media and negative publisity to get noticed, Cyndi just SINGS. She can sing sweetly or belt it out,... but it always comes across with the her amazing sensuality and nuance to everything she touches. I love her. Go girl!

If you heard her on the Academy Awards singing "You Must Love Me" from Evita: It was dog howlingly, tortured goat off-pitch PAINFUL. It is astonishing that her ego is so big, she doesn't think she needs lessons.
