  • what spots in Oregon have sun stones?

  • @6FaceDrak : if there are any other than that at Plush, I'm not aware of them (though I'm sure there are as we've found them in New Mexico as well).

  • man thats sure some cool looking hobby .so u facet these sun stones?i have a faceting machine ,except it needs a motor.ive only ever faceted one stone before it sure is fun .thanks for the vids!

  • @bcdigit : Yes, both of us facet them (I taught my wife faceting). If anything, she's better at it than I am.

  • Any places in Florida that I can prospect for gemstones?

  • Thanks! I swear your like a Grandpa I wish I had!

  • Do you have any good suggestions for Eastern Washington State BLM?

    Kev

  • @kmdental36 : some of the biggest gold nuggets ever found (and I dredged there too) are in the Similkameen River, the gold on the Canadian side is even better. (NE Wa). For E and SE sites you might want to check some of the books in my website out at the library. Best of luck in your search!

  • Very informative and helpful!! Like always!! Great Job!!

  • You have THE best prospecting videos on YouTube! I appreciate all of your diligent camera work and information in so many areas of searching for riches. I also love the comments you make, taking jabs at the liberals and the politically correct gang. I've just subscribed and will surely comment more and even ask advice. Keep up the great work! -Mark

  • I have a few hundred lbs of Carnelian I dug up.. BTW we don't call it Ory-Gone it's pronounce Ore-gun lol.

  • I have been trying to get over there for years.... Now with this new info, I know right where to go.. thanx. See you there later this year.

  • Great video btw, I'm very unfamiliar to the digging basics gold/gems, but are there many sites to dig un-restricted? Can you go just about anywhere and start digging if it's not private property? Thanks for your time

  • @d2paintballer : yes, there are many square miles of area to dig. This is basically a mountain range that blew up and quickly exposed the liquids to cool air where they solidified as gems instantly.

  • @d2paintballer that requires a tricky answer to be honest. yes there are loads of free places to dig, but no you cannot dig unrestricted. if it is not private land, then it will be BLM land and they have some restrictions. such as how many cubic yards of earth a person can move with in certain time frame and blah blah blah. basically for a guy ready to do some real digging. you in luck, but if you show up with a back hoe... you'll be saddened. good luck to you :)

  • helped me out alot with sampling where to look for gold.

so how much do sun stones go for right now ? This is going to be my first year for gold prospeting Im am building a 5 inch dredge rigth now and a tromel for my operation.

I have been looking a trying to looking in the south umqua river by tiller OR I live in southern oregon.

How did you do this year with your dredge ?

  • @monsterfabrication : we don't dredge much anymore, preferring to sluice (simple, effective, and get into more good spots easily). With a metal detector and that dredge gun in the Finding Gold California movie, we can cherry pick gold. The sunstones are all over the map in price since the economy is in the dump. Quality (large) faceted stones still fetch good prices per piece, and this is what Connie and I concentrate on in the main now. We will definitely be out for more sunstones.

  • @monsterfabrication just an fyi. i believe oregon has a 4in. limit on recreational dredging. bigger requires a lot of red tape that could take years to cut through.

  • Another great video, Matt! Hey, can you point me to a source that would tell me what to look for in a gem quality raw sunstone? I wouldn't know a flaw if it bit me on my lesbian Chinese butt! haha Seriously, if there is that much money to be made I really need to broaden my horizons beyond the small quantities of yellow stuff. Thanks in advance!

  • @TheSneakyboots : For sunstones: desertsungems (go all through that site) and then plug "facet grade sunstone" into Google and click the "shopping" tag at the top. You will quickly see the small and opaque (Cab quality) is fairly worthless, and what you need to concentrate on finding is the facet grade larger stones. For sapphire: thenaturalsapphirecompany (click "sapphire education") then Google "natural Montana sapphire" and click "Shopping" to get a feel for that. Best of luck!

  • only thing ive found in oregon when i use to fight fire was lots and lots of black obsidian around silver lake area. if you look for gold in washington please email me ill show you this spot ive been looking into.

  • @Coop4447 : thank you for the invite. There is a great amount of obsidian to be found at the Oregon/Nevada border on Hwy. 140 as well.

  • Will be in OR in Oct & would like to buy some of this stuff. Not "raw ore" but user-ready stone. Do you have an outlet or would you consider a direct sale?

  • @akgemjunkie : We facet ours, drop into one of the mines at Plush (adjoining the (BLM) area we worked) and they have raw stones for sale (as well as bucket ore). Good luck!

  • Looks like hard work. Think I'll be staying on the Gov't dole. ;)

  • I don't think you want any of our public servants involved in what you're doing. They might want to either shut you down or take a cut of what you're finding. The only way to pay off our national debt is to fire them all and hire ones that care about our interests.

Thanks for your videos! If you're ever in Alaska, I can show you a few spots.

  • Hey have you guys ever hunted the Ellensburg blue agates in Washington? Gem quality ones are worth as much as gold. jason m.c.

  • @bluejmc : have not done that yet. There is also fire agate in the SW that is valuable. One of the reasons I started showing gems is because they are more valuable than gold, although there are intermediate steps to get the full trade value (identification - cutting or making (wrapping) them into jewelry - or incorporating them into something. Thanks for sharing, I'll try to find some blue agate pictures.

  • Matt, you just keep such wonderful information flowing to a hungry audience, and that's a treasure in itself. As you so wisely point out, the valuables are around us and vary depending on where we live. You have provided a great many ways for each and all of us to better ourselves economically, and enjoy doing it.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Heavy Pans!

  • I am not on public assistance, but I would LOVE to come out there with you one week a year, to learn some of the massive info you have.

Thanks again Matt for a wonderful video

  • Can you get arrested for mining?. America belong to the fed banker (royal land), and the fed own all land. they can shoot you and throw you in the hole you dig. remember kids, the government is a MOB with a army(COMMUNIST)

  • Lovely video :) Looks like you have a great time.

  • i live in Oregon, need to get some sun stones beautiful gems.

  • Great video. enjoyed watching !

  • Another AWESOME video buddy - congrats on your treasure!!!
