Davus "existed"!!!!!! There were millions of slaves out there in the ancient world... In the movie, he is just the quintessence of this unfortunate human condition. Plus, from the 1st and 2nd century A.C in the Greek and Roman world, 90% of the slaves became (were) christians...so it is after all a very compelling story :)

I think Davus and Hypatia are the best roman couple in Alexandria history, even though they were never together and Hypatia only considered a strong friend I still think I could never have seen a more beautiful friendship of Hypatia and Davus. She deserves him better than Orestes.

I loved loved the movie just like I loved Gladiator because they are so beautiful based on history and the characters of them. Hypatia and Davus are so beautiful together. I adore them, although it's sad that Davus never existed and Hypatia did. But still I loved those two and the the movie. :)

I love this movie and i can exacly understand why people have some critics about that. Hypatia is very important for the science and rest of the women in the world. In the movie she is just a symbol of them. May be i d be better if they much more offer and show her deepness to us but rather than explain this they prefer showing the love between her and Davus. I must confess i loved this love too much. Thanks fot this amazing video. Song suits well.

@miyaloved thank you!! :) I didn't know Max Minghella before watching this movie.. he's really good! But I think the director made the greatest work.. If a great director as Amenabar works on a movie any actor could play very well his character though I think Rachel Weisz is an AMAZING actress( she is one of my favourite) and Max Minghella also is great! I also saw him in "The social network" and he didn't disappoint me :)

Well, i didnt know about Max before watching this movie ! he is so good in this role ! i think, the role of Davus is only for him ! every his movement, breath, word is so natural, the watcher just can't not to believe him.. :)

for sure, Rachel did her best, beatiful woman and talanted actress. And, finally, big big big thanks to Amenabar for this movie ! this is one of the ebst i have ever seen !!!! and i can watch it again and again ... and crying in the end again and again...

@GoddessOlga ok! :) I liked very much "The Last Legion" with Colin Firth... it's really a nice movie. then you probably already saw "The Gladiator" by Ridley Scott( from which is the music I used in this video).. I also like very much other Ridley Scott's movies as "Kingdom of Heaven" and "Robin Hood"... You should also watch the tv series "Pillars of the Earth"..that's really an amazing series. If you see any of this tell me what you think :)

Beautiful moving film. I wished Davus had at least kissed Hypatia and tell her like Apollodorus did to Cleopatra(1963) "I have always loved you" and she would've nodded ans reply "I know".

@HistoryLover1550 True..I would have liked something like that since Davus was an invented character... but maybe their silent love is more captivating.. maybe this is the reason why Davus and Hypatia are so special.. if he had declared his love for her the movie would be less special and more common to other similar love stories. For this reason I think this movie is one of the best I ever saw. :-))

Finalmente, lo aspettavo!!!!!
