  • Takes me back, I was at this gig. Didn't fully appreciate it at the time, only became a big fan a few years later. Gutted. Glastonbury pre mobile phones ruled!

  • Phew for a minute there

    I lost myself

    GENIUS

  • I really like this, because the sound is real.

But...I perfectly remember the first time I saw it was on a pro shot...where is it? Or better, why the hell they removed it? DVD coming I guess

  • It was recorded live and bits were played on channel 4 at the time. It's out there somewhere

  • @TheButros76 it was on 1 of the BBC channels during last summer

  • Jonny during his solo in The Tourist is probably the most attractive thing ever.

  • @Planettelex99 When they play The Tourist nowadays, that's the time I remember how virtuous in Jonny on guitar.

  • go....go, johnny go...

  • If I don't see Radiohead live once in my life it will not be complete

  • search 7oTIBiEwQx8 for BBC Proshot

  • They were on fine form that night! Thom's singing and Jonny's guitar work were particularly outstanding, just nailed everything

  • I'm pretty much stunned at how Thom manages to have a chat with the tech guy at 36.45... while still playing along to the song. What a pro. Unbelievable.

  • Just killed me - i'm in purest guitar-hell

  • Just killed me - i'm in purest guitar-hell

  • I always start to cry at Talk Show Host and have to go have a brew - never got any farther

  • I lol'd at 4:55

  • Lol. 0:15, I thought someone turned on Nyan Cat xd

  • This is bliss

  • Sublime. This is the moment it clicked and I became a Radiohead fan. I remember watching it on friday night on BBC with my friends as a 16 year old. They aired from just before Paranoid Android (lights bit & all) - Just, live. Still have the video tape! They have meant a lot to me ever since.

  • Beside this concert, 2011 concert in Glastonbury is ridiculous.

  • Brings back memories of a wet, but brilliant weekend........

  • Brings back memories of a wet, but brilliant weekend.......

  • thom yorke fell on his arse coming down the ramp at the side of the stage after this gig.....it was bloody hilarious.

  • Aw I should have been hear. Granted I would have just turned 1 but...

  • is this the one right after which Yorke wrote "How to disapper..."?

  • @portnjazhka

No, he said that this was his favourite concert he's ever done

  • @TheCagedTiger somewhere i read that right at this one, where the light was so horrible, that he couldn't see anything and asked to transfer the light onto the crowd, he was very angry (we could see it in the movie) and wanted to leave, but stayed because of the other guys. and after the concert he called Stipe, told him everything and Stipe told him to imagine that he wasn't there and it wasn't happening. and that's how the song appeared

  • @portnjazhka

I'm fairly certain that when the lights illuminated the crowd he said it was an 'out-of-body' experience and that nothing on the OK Computer tour was really 'fun' after that point. He was perturbed that he hadn't seen the crowd, not that it was so large.

  • Damn ... Why does this band do not have normal video releases as all normal musicians.

    Alternative fucking people.

  • ouçam a banda que tom yorke adorou no brasil chama se ROCK DO CURDISTAO esta no GOOGLE

  • Am I hearing things, or did Thom say "let's get high" at the end of Street Spirit lol. An immense gig that's for sure!

  • wish i was there, at the time iwas too young

  • does the real dvd exist??? im asking because if i pick just 1 song from that concert it look really nice, with close ups and everything like if they put it on tv. but when i clicked on this video its just the 1 camera. . . . its a great video, great sound and i thank u for uploading buuut is there a real dvd.

  • Its embarrassing really that this was voted the best glastonbury festival performance of all time when its not really one of their best shows with all the problems they had, but then most bands arn't as good as Radiohead.

  • This brings back so many memories. The rain, the mud, the fireworks during No Surprises, a seminal album in my life, Thom quietly talking to the crowd... the moment Radiohead shifted from indie darlings to one the one of the best bands of rock history.

  • This brings back so many memories. The rain, the mud, the fireworks during No Surprise, a seminal album in my life, Thom quietly talking to the crowd... the moment Radiohead shifted from indie darlings to one the one of the best bands of rock history.

  • This is perfect, Radiohead is just a wonderful band.... I wish I was in that concert...

  • sat down by the tree and enjoyed this soooo much... thanks for posting, great capture

  • I'd forgotten this until I just got into a discussion with somebody a minute a go who was boasting they were too busy 'living' to answer my questions since they were watching this gig on DVD.

I was there in this crowd. I'd hitch-hiked from my home town with no tent, no ticket and thirty pounds in my pocket. I paid somebody ten pounds to give me a stall-holders wrist band. The rain was terrible and I had to sleep in the mud. Thom Yorke later said this was the gig of his life. It was brilliant.

  • For those watching this now, BBC will show the gig at 22:30 tonight on BBC 4! (And probably later on iPlayer as well)

  • @dronespace Yeah watched it, twas great!

  • exit music is absolutely stunning in this video

  • How can 3 people not like this?

  • I've loved watching this, thanks loads xxxx

  • how do you leave out " let down" ...

  • Rolling Stone rated this one as the best concert in the histor of music. Nirvana live at Reading on Nr. 2 :)

  • @Nirvaaanaa You mean Q magazine?

  • 76200

  • WHEN the hell is the moment when Yorke said to turn the lights on??

  • @AustinBrock Thank you and thank you for all the concerts! If you can do a blog or something with al the lives in DD would be perfect (=

  • @RainBack1987 34:28, right before Paranoid Android.

  • Respond to this video... Just before "Paranoid Android" he says it,about 34 mins and 20 secs in...Proud to say, I was there that night and twas class!!!

  • @RainBack1987 "Andy... we havent seen them yet"

  • Did anyone record the BBC4 rebroadcast?

  • @ughmustard i did it was on the 20th of december

  • @tinsaint Is there any chance of you uploading this onto youtube or as a dvd? Would love to see it.

  • @ughmustard yes it will be on this week or next:)

  • This is the stuff of legend.

  • 34:05 for Thom's famous turn on the lights please quote:)

  • So so many gigs over the years and still nothing comes remotely close to this. The most amazing musical performance I've had the good fortune to witness. Thanks for posting this and bringing back some wonderful memories

  • The greatest set list ever fucking put together

  • Two best performances of Airbag and Planet Telex ever. Only two songs which were absolutely perfect, I suppose: he missed out the entire bridge of Paranoid Android.

  • Musical Geniuses.

  • I don't like Radiohead but this set was one of those magic moments

  • Although more raw than the 2003 Glastonbury this one is much nicer. That intensity is hard to keep up over the years.

  • 伝説のらいぶ

  • This is magnificent. Thanks for putting the effort in AustinBrock. I've been after this for years and missed the recent BBC4 replay. That made me sick. So glad to have found this. Is this available to download anywhere so i can save it on my laptop? (Or put on a dvd).

    Thanks muchly!

    Glen.

  • @glen73 Woah. My name is Glen too. THAT'S PRETTY COOL BRO.

  • this is beyond awesome, many thanks for uploading this! and for whoever filmed it!

Radiohead, Beck, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pavement, The Chemical Brothers, Supergrass, the Levellers, Phish, the Prodigy, Ray Davies, Ocean Colour Scene, the Divine Comedy and the Bluetones all there in 1997. i don't know about you guys, but that could hardly get any better for me.

  • @ab, yep, very good point. i'm loving it as much now as i did back then! ;D brightened the evening no end ;) lol ! big thanks for putting this on, absolutely class gig & a quality glasto!! nice 1!

  • nothing better than RADIOHEAD DUDE!

  • i wish i could have gone to that concert

  • it's also on the beeb 4 tomorrow nite at 01:15am :D

  • @doubleyoub2k I see that too, but it's only an hour long. Maybe some NEW footage will surface?

  • @AustinBrock I think it may be just the cut version... the soundboard audio that I had, was the whole setlist... that's why this DVD was done. I think there was a few errors when broadcasting that's why parts of the gig was cut which is a shame.

  • Hi, Just to note. I originally made this DVD with the help of another chap from Atease(supplying me with the soundboard audio - sorry! can't remember you now a few years back!) I done the creation of this, and I'm glad someone has uploaded this. It took me a few days to get the audio in sync etc... being a Radiohead fan, it was worth it. Cheers, Pulk... as I put in the credits. And Pulk on Atease.

  • @Lechy1983 Thank you for making such a DVD available Pulk, have a great christmas :).

  • @AustinBrock You too, and everyone else... let's see what the BBC has to offer... :-)

  • @Lechy1983 If you can give an aussie any advise on getting this dvd it would be much appreciated! This concrt is etched in my mind from Triple J broadcasting the concert not long after it was on. I've been keen lately to get hold of the audio mainly- but watch this gig would be great. I hope you can help- cheers, Loc

  • Best "street spirit" version i ever heard!!

So intense! Thanks a lot for this upload!!

  • Hmm very weird, at both this performance of Glasto and the 2003 Glasto, Thom screws up the first line of Karma Police in the exact same way both times, never seen him do it at any other live performance, guess glasto just has a curse for Karma Police :P

  • @CaptainJobby I think its nerves

  • people should make a movie about RADIOHEAD.

  • The summer sun....hahahhaha

  • "And either way you turn..." *camera turns to the big screen showing Thom* "...I'll be there." That was clever.

  • That was a great glastonbury.

My stupid GF wanted me to go to the NME stage and see Kulashaker while this was going on, she got mad and made me take her so I missed some of it, nice to finally see what I missed. The bitch is gone from my life now though :)

  • @macaxe and that's definition of the word 'wafel'

  • @macaxe I woulda finished her as soon as she said lets go see Kulashaker instead of Radiohead.

  • @macaxe omg shame on her, kulashaker over Radiohead, that's just madness, i would choose rh over any girl! lol

  • BEST performance of Paranoid Android. Thoms voice on the "whats there?" part is orgasmic

  • What happened at the end of talk show host?

  • Comment removed

  • thank you.

  • BEST SETLIST EVER!!!!

  • How did you get this????????????????????

  • @Alwaystuned Read the description :).

  • Comment removed

  • these guys know how 2 fuckin jam!

  • I've produced my five best shows (visual artist) whilst Radiohead played in the studio.

    If artmaking had a soundtrack...

  • isn't this gig known to be the best of all time? Im not surprised

  • @mcnultyfrank One of the best, certainly the best ever Glastonbury performance

  • AustinBrock you're the man

  • brilliant, it makes my feet ache just remembering trudging around in the mud all weekend. thx for the great upload, i was to the left and slightly further back.

  • the most memorable gig of my life and maybe glastonbury history (according to eavis) thanks for this brings back some great memories, except for that damn mud :)

  • good old times

  • i was 3 and a half when this was happenin, my uncle was there and said that the atomosphere was fucking fantastic

  • Watch the bbc footage of this in set list order it makes a great concert video

  • fricking awesome upload!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow this sounds really good for VHS. ah, i remember the good old days of vhs...

    great upload, thanks!

  • Haha you can tell that they are far from tired of Creep at this show. And they should've been. Compared to the material that they were putting out at the time (The Bends, Ok Computer) it was very, very average.

  • God I'd love to have been there. I was only a few months old though. :/

  • @ComputerGeek396 Me to. Best gig ever and I missed it! I guess I was subconciously waving my pudgy little fist up and down to them. I missed the whole hype about o.k computer.

  • nice sound quality!

  • i'm amazed by the sound quality on this film from the crowd.

    nice work.

  • Best live performance ever!

  • isn't how to disappear completely about this concert? blown speakers, strobe lights, fireworks at the end.. thanks for posting this!

  • @Z9470210 Yup. Check out citizeninsane.eu they mention this gig on the how to disappear completely page.

  • I read somewhere that they were having monitor problems which accounts for some timing and quality probs. However, I must say, RADIOHEAD can do no wrong in my eyes.

    Greatest Band OF ALL TIME!

  • Thank you very very much.

  • thankyou for putting this on.

13 years later this is still my favourite gig i've ever been to.

    x

  • The best live band ever and the best band of all time along with the Beatles...

  • Wow...I have never consciously listened to Radiohead, but it says something that I knew almost all of the songs, not just the most famous ones, as am about he same age as the band members. Have just listened to this from start to finish - now 2am in Japan. I (only logged on to watch Mozzer sing There is a Light ...!) Am proud to say that I grew up near Abingdon, and also went to 6th Form where Supergrass went, another great band from Oxford. Something in the water...The Smiths excepted!

  • this was supposedly the climax of the OK Computer tour, after which they felt like shit for the rest of it

  • this live is voted number 1 in the top 100 list of greatest rock live in UK

  • 1 person dislike? You asshole!

  • @DjSounDro Yes. That person is Thom Yorke. Still having nightmares about Glasto '97, the man. :P

  • 0:36:45 He goes to have a conversation with someone and yet his playing is still perfect!

I'm guessing he was asking for a new mic, but does anyone know why? It sounded fine to me.

  • Its frustrating how Jonnys wonkey guitar messes up alot of the songs, but Thoms singing has never sounded this good and probably never will, so its definately one of their best performances I think

  • @villiparis

Messes up? Apart from the fart note in Lucky, his guitar playing is beautiful here.

  • @SkydivingKnife What about the countless mistakes in my iron lung, the bends, pandroid android, creep, bones, just and high and dry? and you must have noticed You didn't sound right. The only thing holding it togeather is Thom Yorks voice and Phil Selways drums,.

  • @villiparis

The thing is, when Jonny makes a mistake, it sounds beautiful.

Okay that's a copout, but while he may have made a lot of mistakes, there's also a lot more 'new', it's gutsy, there are pay-offs and downsides. I can accept those mistakes, because sometimes it actually does sound good.

  • @SkydivingKnife I admit it makes for great drama but its not how it was intended to sound

  • @villiparis

So? It makes for a great show. Which is what this is here. Though I can understand if it bothers you.

  • @villiparis dont be a dumbass

  • 1 dislike??? find this person and burn them. BURN THEM!!!!!!!

j/k, just give em a light beating.

  • i was 3 when this concert was held... cant wait for their new album this fall... long live radiohead and real music!!!

  • If someone could somehow supply me with a link to download audio from the 2 minute mark to the end.. I would be so grateful. So so grateful.

  • I cant believe it. thank you for puttin such greatness on here for my enjoyment!!! This is amazing!!! I had no idea that such quality could be possible from as far back as 97? The views on this are gonna go up alot from me alone!!!!!! :-)

  • Hey respect to AustinBrock for putting this on-one of the best gigs of alltime-Radiohead at their very best!

  • this performance of lucky features thoms gilry laugh when jonny messes of the chorus ha

  • amazing!!

  • AustinBrock loves Angi Hale :)

  • Great concert. I love Thom Yorke's 'Thakyoo!' after just about every song :P.

  • Wow it's all coming back to me...I always knew I had a moment while there at the time but hazy memories have come flooding back after watching this.....nice one

  • If there ever was a time that Radiohead sounded, for better, for worse, for everything in between, 'larger then life', this is it. Damn.

  • OMG!

  • Legend!!

  • This is incredi-BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • It missed out (nice dream)!! No!!

  • i was there watching, in front of the stage, this hisytorical event. but i dont remember a minute of it!

    was the way back then!

  • Aahhhhhh great memories! I mean AWESOME memories! I was lucky enough to be there. What an amazing post thanks for sharing this.

  • you rock for putting this on in full. You just rock.

  • Immerse your soul in love..... Thank you so much for this video.

  • I was there. It was awe-inspiring! Nothing more to be said.

  • @MaverickAl Well said Mr B.

  • this is amazing

there's a radio interview where thom was asked what his most memorable radiohead moment was, and he said it was Glastonbury 97. he said there were so many problems with the equipment during it that he almost walked off in the middle but ed told him that he would always regret it if he did, and so he finished. after the concert he was upset cuz he thought they had blown it but then his gf made him listen to the crowd's applause and he realized that everyone had loved it.

  • Who the fucking Jesus disliked this?

  • I listened to this on the radio live in '97 and had a tape of it for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if the sound comes from that recording. Too good sound to just be taken in the crowd. Well done however it was done, it's fookin brilliant!!

  • austinbrock, no words can how awoesome you are for putting this video

  • beyond words...

  • According to the Kid A interview, Thom started to hate rock music after this concert.

  • ok, fine,

    but... where is the explotion???

  • ok, fine,

    but... where is the explotion???

  • Radiohead just the greatest band Live. Love this concert.TY AustinBrock.

  • this was one of the best nights of my life! covered head to toe in SHIT and loving the Radiohead! prodigy the night before was UNBELIEVEABLE!! 1997 FTW!

  • @ivor1977 yes i was there remember the prodg the night before also - they were banging but equipment kept breaking down.

    i was in a mess.

  • Wow. What a performance. Great sound. Thank you.

  • i was there, still remember the lights blazing during creep - thought the aliens were landing and almost lost my mind. this was the best live set EVER

  • Simply amazing! Thanks AustinBrock!

  • This is my favourite gig, absolutley brilliant, Radiohead live at Glastonbury 1997 :D

  • By the way, the audio quality is AMAZING. This may as well have been recorded at the sound booth.

  • @thatguitarkid It was ;).

  • @eyemoeba Totally agree... aside from 4:56 XD What a moment, given how stressed out they all were at the time.
