Takes me back, I was at this gig. Didn't fully appreciate it at the time, only became a big fan a few years later. Gutted. Glastonbury pre mobile phones ruled!
I'm pretty much stunned at how Thom manages to have a chat with the tech guy at 36.45... while still playing along to the song. What a pro. Unbelievable.
Sublime. This is the moment it clicked and I became a Radiohead fan. I remember watching it on friday night on BBC with my friends as a 16 year old. They aired from just before Paranoid Android (lights bit & all) - Just, live. Still have the video tape! They have meant a lot to me ever since.
@TheCagedTiger somewhere i read that right at this one, where the light was so horrible, that he couldn't see anything and asked to transfer the light onto the crowd, he was very angry (we could see it in the movie) and wanted to leave, but stayed because of the other guys. and after the concert he called Stipe, told him everything and Stipe told him to imagine that he wasn't there and it wasn't happening. and that's how the song appeared
I'm fairly certain that when the lights illuminated the crowd he said it was an 'out-of-body' experience and that nothing on the OK Computer tour was really 'fun' after that point. He was perturbed that he hadn't seen the crowd, not that it was so large.

Its embarrassing really that this was voted the best glastonbury festival performance of all time when its not really one of their best shows with all the problems they had, but then most bands arn't as good as Radiohead.
This brings back so many memories. The rain, the mud, the fireworks during No Surprises, a seminal album in my life, Thom quietly talking to the crowd... the moment Radiohead shifted from indie darlings to one the one of the best bands of rock history.

I'd forgotten this until I just got into a discussion with somebody a minute a go who was boasting they were too busy 'living' to answer my questions since they were watching this gig on DVD.
I was there in this crowd. I'd hitch-hiked from my home town with no tent, no ticket and thirty pounds in my pocket. I paid somebody ten pounds to give me a stall-holders wrist band. The rain was terrible and I had to sleep in the mud. Thom Yorke later said this was the gig of his life. It was brilliant.

Wow...I have never consciously listened to Radiohead, but it says something that I knew almost all of the songs, not just the most famous ones, as am about he same age as the band members. Have just listened to this from start to finish - now 2am in Japan. I (only logged on to watch Mozzer sing There is a Light ...!) Am proud to say that I grew up near Abingdon, and also went to 6th Form where Supergrass went, another great band from Oxford. Something in the water...The Smiths excepted!

Wow it's all coming back to me...I always knew I had a moment while there at the time but hazy memories have come flooding back after watching this.....nice one
there's a radio interview where thom was asked what his most memorable radiohead moment was, and he said it was Glastonbury 97. he said there were so many problems with the equipment during it that he almost walked off in the middle but ed told him that he would always regret it if he did, and so he finished. after the concert he was upset cuz he thought they had blown it but then his gf made him listen to the crowd's applause and he realized that everyone had loved it.
I listened to this on the radio live in '97 and had a tape of it for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if the sound comes from that recording. Too good sound to just be taken in the crowd. Well done however it was done, it's fookin brilliant!!
this was one of the best nights of my life! covered head to toe in SHIT and loving the Radiohead! prodigy the night before was UNBELIEVEABLE!! 1997 FTW!
i was there, still remember the lights blazing during creep - thought the aliens were landing and almost lost my mind. this was the best live set EVER

If there ever was a time that Radiohead sounded, for better, for worse, for everything in between, 'larger then life', this is it. Damn.

this is amazing
there's a radio interview where thom was asked what his most memorable radiohead moment was, and he said it was Glastonbury 97. he said there were so many problems with the equipment during it that he almost walked off in the middle but ed told him that he would always regret it if he did, and so he finished. after the concert he was upset cuz he thought they had blown it but then his gf made him listen to the crowd's applause and he realized that everyone had loved it.

I listened to this on the radio live in '97 and had a tape of it for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if the sound comes from that recording. Too good sound to just be taken in the crowd. Well done however it was done, it's fookin brilliant!!

By the way, the audio quality is AMAZING. This may as well have been recorded at the sound booth.

@eyemoeba Totally agree... aside from 4:56 XD What a moment, given how stressed out they all were at the time.
