I think the theme of this film was empowerment, and the consequences, how innoccence can accomodate brutality, how isolation can obscure the perception,What irritates me the most is that this idiot considers himself to be a film critic, i'd love to hear his opinion of Taxi Driver unfortunatley this kind of idiot has a way of presenting himself as the "average" American but it restores my faith in the USA to hear from people like you.,maybe his real problem was seeing the bullies get killed.

@SpinCycleSubmission I can't begin to tell you how glad I am that you've made these films and comments, but I can't help but wonder if this guys intention was to spark a phony "peadophile" debate around this film as a spoiling tactic, the debate alone would put alot of people off. Were his comments made before (the inferior) Let Me In was released? Also I think you've done a great service for the U.S.A, a nation that shot up in my estimation the first time i heard Bill Hicks. @Srednivashtar76 Yes, they were made before Let Me In (which i absolutely hated). I am glad to hear that as I am severely disheartened with the USA. I believe FuryoftheFilmFan has retired from doing movie reviews. He just didn't understand the movie at all, and if he had understood it properly his contentions would not be valid. I recently saw the film in Swedish (for the first time, used to watching the dubs) because I found a copy with the theatrical subtitles, they were originally botched.

@SpinCycleSubmission If you can get a copy of the DVD with the Directors commentry on it, you'd really get involved, I knew it was a heavily layered film before, but the passion he had for the subject is almost as moving as the film itself, he has also recently directed "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, another amazing film, don't lose heart in the USA, so many great artists, writers, musicians and film makers, but keep fighting the assholes, people like you restore the balance!

Furthermore, the old guy that is Eli's caretaker was probably a pedophile, but that element serves the function of explaining why does what he does for Eli. It also goes to infer that even though she is hundreds of years old, she still identifies with the younger male. Does that make her a pedophile? I suggest to anyone, watch the film and decide for yourself. I found it to be one of the best movies I've ever seen and I will remember it forever.

It not FOTFF's opinion, because everyone is entitled to thier own, that I think is ridiculous. It's the fact that he judges people that don't agree with him. To paraphrase, he says that if you like LTROI, you condone pedophelia, child porn, underage sex etc. So If I watch a movie about serial killlers does that make me a homicidal maniac? If I watch a movie about racism, I must be a racist. The guy can have his opinions, but shouldnt judge people whos opinion differs from his.

1. I adore this film, everything about it. That's why it's in my top 10 and 2. I don't understand at all why people watch an independent film, and expect everything to be nice and oooo-Hollywood-comfy. If you're going to watch and indie film expect to be challenged and approach it with an open mind! :)

It is a true artistic masterpiece. You are right SpinCycle, about the hypocrisy in our laws. But that is because the majority of people are idiots. We have a Model Penal Code, which clearly states that children under 18 should not ever be tried as adults; they NEVER have the brain development to form MENS REA the mental state required for guilt in crimes. They can't formulate consent in sexual acts and can't legally participate in that either, so I agree with you, only in reverse! lol

Why is it that so many Americans are hung up on sex. This guy (FuryoftheFilmfan) is really obsessed with paedophilia, he sees it even where it blatantly isn't. I also noticed how he stopped using the inflammatory term 'vagina shot', and changed it to 'crotch shot' which is less alarming but actually more accurate.

He has no argument, he mentions 'facts' and points to his assumptions.

here is my take on this, this is a movie of two KIDS one who is empty inside elie, and another who is withdrawn from being bullyed so much, oscar. these two meet and in time see that they are basicly the same, ALONE. they form a true bond together, a freindship with love for each other, and the way it was portraid was amazing, lovely story that sparked life back in the both of them, thats what makes this a wonderful movie

Gonna take Fury's side on this one, only because I hate fags who defend what they truly know is Pedo. It's pretty clear that's what they were trying to do, they didn't need that in there at all, I could have went to take a pissbreak, come back missing those parts and liked the movie just as much. I guess this movie tops interview for a vampire for me, even though Cruise (not surprisingly lol) dead an awesome job of playing a flamboyant evil vampire. I like to think that Eli knew what she was doing (taking advantage of Oskar), cuz I like my vamps devious. But the scene in the bed was so tender, it confirmed for me the love she has for him. More than the scene when Eli lets Oskar over power her. Also, reading the book Eli really does have a mind of a lonely kid.
