  • I SO adore this man!!! His music makes my heart melt and my soul sing... mmmm!! LOVE!!!!

  • Am I the only one who doesn't read Yo-Yo Ma, but Yo Mama?

  • The highest-rated comment on a Yo-Yo Ma video is a very intelligent statement about heavy metal.

    FAITH IN WORLD = RESTORED

  • i always thought yo yo ma was a rapper.

  • @jackyjunior99 LOL his name means : Friend-friend Horse, Yo is Friend, and Ma is his surname (rather common), which means horse.

  • Yeah right. Nigel Tuffnall character summed it all up in Tap: 'many of my favourite lines are borrowed from Bach (sic)'. Wonder who'll be listened to in 100 years? Bach or Megadeath? Hmmmmmmm let me think................................

  • how fun!!

  • Yo-yo Ma, you're the Bomb!

  • honestly, i think i'd cum in my pants if i could record something with Yo Yo lol

  • why is there alcohol commercial for this video?? lol

  • @Ilkling That's....random.......

  • lol when he said Yo-Yo it sounded like a nick name

  • i wish i could duet with yoyo ma

  • @tshenvideos We all do

  • What's the song that was played before Yo-yo Ma started speaking?

  • @TVNerd126 It's called "Dona Nobis Pacem."

  • @SebbyWhite thanks =D

  • only person hes missing is justin beiber

  • Kyrie......

  • also diese ab in den urlaub werbung nervt so unglaublich dolle -.-

  • I hope I'll be at least 50% of what he is.

  • Nice. Very nice.

  • That man is a genius, you can tell by what he says. "The way to get to the heart through music is playing with your friends" - Yoyo Ma

    Genius!

That bouquet of flowers looks like a brain.....

  • The man is a treasure. I am so grateful for the grace, talent, and humanity that he brings to his craft.

  • At 5:28 into the video Yo-yo Ma hits a wrong high note. It's out of pitch, But no biggie. He's still a master musician.

  • @TheSideflip Haha, I see. Sorry then.

  • @TheSideflip Christian music? A disgrace? People expressing their faith is not a disgrace on any level.

  • so.........beautiful!!!

  • Who want to do online lesson with me?

  • Congratulations to Yo-Yo Ma on receiving the Presedential Medal of Freedom 2/15/11. His talent is amazing and the world appreciates it.

  • when i first glanced at this, i thought his name was "yo mama"

  • @4c3m4g1c hahaha this made me laugh out loud.

  • I like how the reporter could play music as well--cool!

  • Still boyishly handsome and fabulously talented.

  • What a very strange set of comments to an interesting video.

I'll let you all argue about what is, and what is not music while I play fly on the wall at Yo Yo's imaginary dinner party.

People will likely be listening to giants like YoYo Ma and his friends long after all these arguers are long gone and forgotten

  • Has anybody seen Yo Yo Ma and Lang Lang together? But the rising piano star is umipiano.com . The beautiful and gracious Umi is a winner via her performance, her 10 year old stuffed animal toy, and above all, her smile, white dresses, white ribbon adorning her long hair. Every senior wants a grand daughter the likes of Umi. But for Lang Lang. Standing bravos for the New Years eve gem with the NYPhilharmonic.

  • he's so awesome

  • Music began with Chant. Such as Gregorian Chant. ALL music is derived from that. I'm a music major and have been through music history classes. I agree that some music is better than others but it all depends on the taste of the listener. I enjoy classical music because that's where the real talent began to show through. If you talk to artists today they themselves enjoy classical as well. Interviews with Robert Plant can attest to that. One has to be open minded when listening to music.

  • @Collegehippie22 - If you limit yourself to one genre then you aren't a true music lover or musician. Yes, we all have our favorites but if you want to grasp music in its entirety then open yourself to more options. You don't have to like it all just be willing to try.

  • Omg krnboi93, you yourself dont know anything about the beginning of Music right ? The first Instruments were wooden drums and fluets, made of animal bones looooong before classical music was invented. And wtf, you consider yourself as a pro in the matter of music and but you still say that metal ISNT music at all ? Its just as more or less music as classical, rap, house, elektro, jazz or WHATEVER.

Think before blaming others, ty ;)

  • @TheSideflip Agreed.

  • does anyone know that a kazu is?

  • @cihad2003 copy: kazoo mysteryguitarman and paste into search field of youtube:D

    lotsa fun

  • @cihad2003 Those little plastic buzzy instruments you get at parties.

  • @TheSideflip What's this "true music" crap? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's somehow "a disgrace". And who are you to say what's "true music"? Now, I respect your opinion, but you sound damned elitist typing things like that.

I personally believe that any genre, done right, is really enjoyable. My favorite happens to be classical music, but I do enjoy the other genres too.

  • Do you guys ever realize that most the legendary musicians don't spend their time talking about which genres are 'music' or not.. but rather talk about the amazing uniqueness and special power each individual artists holds? :/

  • I'm high as shit right now and this video is ridiculous.

  • who first heard of Yo-Yo Ma from the suite life of zack and cody? :D thumbs up this :]

  • How about Jake Shimabukuro with Yo Yo Ma? That would be awesome!

  • aw. yo-yo ma and his friends. he's a delicate man :)

  • He looks like a rich kid who got richer

  • ¡No mames!

Dave Brubeck con este compa.... Está cabrón. Ya quisiera uno amigos así

  • When I'm working the 'big' concerto's like Elgar's cello concerto, I always listen to Yo- Yo and play with the recordings or tracks, he's my inspiration! :D

  • Anyone That insults me Doesnt appreciate Classical Music and will die impotent.

  • His name was MADE for yo momma jokes...

  • lol

  • yo-yo ma always reminds me of the seinfeld episode where kramer gets kicked in the head and randomly blurts out yo-yo ma's name

  • That's a Ukulele. Jake is the bomb! search for him here and be amazed.

  • Yo-Yo Ma and James Taylor? Really? Wow!

  • At first I thought it said duet with yo mama, lol

  • I play the Cello and Yo-Yo Ma is such an inspiration...

  • yo yo ma looks like kevjumba's dad... LOL

  • Haha JAKE Shimabukuro, Hawaii represent!

  • @killingangel707 : What is the musical instrument Jake is playing?

  • lol, i see why jake abd yo yo ma are doing a duet, there both asian, sigh.... hahah jkjkjk i l love em both

  • lol

  • This is sad? A virtuosos playing music he loves? thats not sad...going to a factory and being miserable is sad.yoyo ma is bad ass.

  • i thought the title said "A Duet with Yo Mama" LOL nevertheless this is fantastic

  • Voz en off esnob de las pelotas. Ma es muy simpático, pero el tipo de Time me las revienta.

  • yoyo ma is awesome ;D

  • This man is one of the greatest musicians of all time

  • you must be joking. He's a cowboy

  • Not only is he superb at what he does but he's also a role model for mankind. If only we all aspired to be more like him, then maybe this world would be a better place.

  • My teacher played with him. His name is John Rutherford and he plays the trombone.

  • You've just proven YOU are the one with the Down's syndrome. Don't interfere with stuff that's far beyond your 2 brain cells and stick to crap like Slipnob- knot

  • I saw a short film on the making of this album recently and was so stunned at the music it produced. I was amazed and pleased and just blown away by the music. The people he invited are all so, well..talented, but not all so well known as he is. But, wow, can they all play! Don't forget Alison Krauss either. angelic voice! From a country boy and "rockinredneck" I say, well done!! Bravo, sir!

  • Boo! That's so terrible. How dare you talk about Yo-yo that way. He is so amazing. Your comment is nasty, vile, and completely unbased. That is so not cool. Please take your nasty ridiculous comments somewhere else where the rest of us can't see them.

  • @Razrpronazr if your going to say something mean don't say it at all. you know you laugh at his name but does that really matter? what matters is what he does and what he has done for the musical community. you can like other things and dislike this kind of music but don't go insulting or making assumptions on people or things just because you dont like them

  • Slipknot.

And "real music" should never be said in the same sentence because they are complete opposites.

  • Comment removed

  • very true. slpknot sucks. and i play violin and i LOVE it. mr. slipknot will probably go deaf early anyhow

  • hey!! you don't have to say those things of metal just for a stupid metalhead or something...i love metal and also i am a musician ,play cello and i love classical music...but metal it's awesome so fuck you!..sorry

  • @krnboi93 Metal is actually the most similar to classical music out of all of the contemporary music there is out there. Your understanding of metal is just as ignorant and foolish as whoever it was criticizing classical music. Otherwise, I agree with your comment.

  • @krnboi93 Actually, I read his comment, he was obviously just a troll and I'm really surprised people were actually getting worked up over his comments.

  • @krnboi93 Yes, Classical music is the basis to all modern music, including metal. If you take metal apart and look closely, its classical. I listen to classical, metal, pop, and most other music. Do yourself a favor and expand your horizons. Look up a band called Nightwish. It shows just how closely related the two genres are.

  • @furtjager117 I'm sorry to burst your bubble but I really dont care about metal. You can call me arrogant, stubborn, etc but its my opinion and I'm entitled to one no? I listen to music which soothes me. I need music to hear when I'm lying in bed at night or taking a stroll around my neighborhood. Metal just hurts my ears, makes my frustrations worse, and isnt soothing at all. But thats just me and my opinion. If you do care, I read the lyrics of metal music, very poetic and metaphorical.

  • @krnboi93 There are some good metal songs. Try Ultranumb by Blue Stahli. My single favorite rock song of all time.

  • @furtjager117 Useto love metal but now I prefer acoustic guitars, classical, but mostly I love pianos so much power and feeling is into classical :).Metal seems more involved with it's fashion and angry lyrics rather then the beauty of the sound that's why I left metal because it was too much a lifestyle then actually music.

  • @furtjager117 Classical is superior as a genre to all other genres really. It has withstood the test of time and only the cream of the crop are selected to be considered "classics". Of metal, pop, etc., the cream of the crop is yet to be sorted out and maybe only 1 song every 20 years will be good enough to compare to classical music. That is why, I believe, that many (including myself) consider classical music to be the best genre of this time.

  • @krnboi93 Actually, modern popular music comes from a merge of folk music called the blues, And while we might not have had the same kinds of popular music without classical music, we would get somewhat the same with globalized media of the 19-hundreds.

  • @krnboi93 For me, your post is the most hypocritical I've ever seen on Youtube. "Educate yourself before you post a dumb selfish comment" followed by "metal is a disgrace to music". How sickening. I don't even care much for metal but at least I'll educate myself in it first. slipknot, uses complex poly-rhythms and unusual diminished chord shapes and scales whilst pioneering new tones and sounds. Please stop posting 'dumb selfish comments'.

  • @krnboi93 ^ your comment is very hypocritical since most metal is in fact closely related to classical music. Don't believe me? Listen to Jason Becker hes a classically trained metal guitarist but his music is nothing short of amazing.

  • @krnboi93 A) Slipknot isn't metal. It's garbage. B) Real meal, at least good metal, is very technical and emotional. Plus, a lot of elements of metal are derived from classical.

  • @Beefforyou What the heck are you talking about?

  • @ATK101893 Read all the comments preceding mine...

  • @Beefforyou what type of elements? I seriously doubt it...

  • @SafeBet86 Listen to Yngwie Malmsteen. And pretty common in some subgenres of Death Metal too. Even a band like Necrophagist uses minor/diminished arpeggios, listen to Extreme Unction.

  • @krnboi93 im sorry but thats just a stereotype, metal is just another symphony, music DEPENDS on the taste of listener. I love both classical/metal and its hard to argue in which is better. Please dont assume classical is the best when its original.

  • @krnboi93 That is absolutely not true. Classical music was definitely not "the first" type of music that existed. And music did not originate on the "piano/cello/violin/viola etc" In fact, the piano hadn't even been invented during Bach's time!

  • @krnboi93 how about you not be so close minded? You have no idea if Bach or Beethoven were alive today they would be metal heads. If you truly have respect for music then you shoudln't post slanderous comments about a form of music. Music is a form of expression through sound, and every artist's expression is different.

  • @LegendaryManBug Don't be such an ignorant snob. Respect all kinds of music before you can even ATTEMPT to act like you have an opinion.

  • @LegendaryManBug thats complete bullshit .... even slipknot can inspire you in some way

  • @hammurabi908 Slipknot is nothing. Nothing but loud screaming over deafening crap they call music. Get your facts straight.

  • @xbasket12x im not even a fan of slipknot ... but i have to defend them cause some of their songs are good "music". And you know i hate haters ;)

  • @hammurabi908 NONE of their songs are good "music". Why are you even mentioning Slipknot on a Yo-Yo Ma video, troll much?

  • This interview is very interesting. Yo-Yo Ma's music inspired me to pick up the cello nearly nine years ago. I'd be interested in taking his challenge of playing one of the pieces from his album. My brother plays guitar and sings, so I'd be interested in playing this arrangement of "Here Comes the Sun." Does anyone know where to obtain the sheet music? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Yo-Yo Ma embodies humanity's quest for joy, peace and love. The new album "Songs of Joy & Peace" will inspire you as it inspired me.

Mabuhay from Manila, Philippines! I pray that Yo-Yo Ma will visit us sometime soon.

  • this is what music is all about.

  • i saw dave brubeck in toronto after he finished recording with yo-yo ma (he mentioned it)

I'll buy this one in a heart beat.

  • It is sad to see him get old. I will cry when he dies. But be happy because I know where he is going, and so doesn't he. <3

  • Fantastic. That violin player belongs in the Hall of Fame! Speaks and plays equally well like Wynton Marsalis. Wonder if he can write. ABMD

  • you know for some reason i was never a real big fan of Wynton Marsalis and i am a huge fan of Jazz music, but idk his style never struck me as really great

  • jack black: yo yo ma's cousin, little nepitiz...

  • hello

  • Just looking at some of the comments below make me cringe, please do not post comments if you are ignorant.

  • kramer: YO YO MA!!

  • that was my first thought, I've seen every episode too many times for any human to admit.

  • he was on arthur =]

  • At first i thought this said '' A Duet With Yo Ma Ma''

  • LOL @ ignorance :p

    (just kidding)

  • OMG I JUST SANG DONA NOBIS PACEM FOR CHOIR A FEW DAYS AGO! lol and WOW ur really lucky to have met him!

  • Yo Yo Ma should play a song with a cello and a dude on the banjo.

  • I think he has played with Bela Fleck before. Not sure if they have recorded together, but it would sound great. Bela and double bassist Edgar Meyer have played many times and recorded together and it's amamzing to hear. I would think that Yo Yo Ma and Bela Fleck would sound wonderful as well.

  • He is so sexy

  • Ha ha! We watched a video on Yo Yo Ma in orchestra, and my friend thought it was Yo Mama! xD

  • I thought it said "Yo Mama" at first.

  • I love Yo-Yo Ma he is such a genius!!!

  • this is amazingggggggg

  • Matt Haimovitz, Mischa Maisky just to give a few examples.

  • He has a place in Palm Beach, FL. I waited on him. He's an okay tipper and very inconspicuous. No joke.

  • Name them, if you think so.
