@maddermofo check out the "fat" sound by playing 10ths in the left hand eg C up to octave E if you canstretch that far. If not flip down fro 10 to ROOT in a sort of "and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4
Intensity, focus, feeling and something I can't pick out in words - perhaps divine? I don't know - but You got it Dr. John. Keep doing your stuff, cheers J.
@1234ezra1 That's what he told me too, years ago. Lissen and play Huey 'Piano' Smith, Professor Longhair, James Booker, Fats Domino, he said. I nodded, but thought and kept thinking all the years after, 'Why would I try their stuff when I like yours better? Besides: you've listened to all of them and all that is concluded in your style'. I did listen to all the pianists I could find, but kept practicing Dr. John. Maybe it's stubborn, I dunno, but it never got dull!
Its really hard indeed... you have to focus on playing on the tips of every key, reallllly on the tips. Even I have pretty large hands but it's hard as hell...
@adamfishmouth Practice. Keep stretching and trying. It hurts at first, but the gospel sound you get from it. Wow. It's like playing an orchestra with your left hand!
Got these dvd's. Wish the accompanying transcriptions were more fully realised. Love to get hold of 'such a night' just the way he plays it in the 1981 live version posted by 'undercoverblackman' on here

Did you all know that he switched from guitar to piano due to a gunshot wound to his hand. He's awesome. Thanks for the upload.
