  • that's a dough rolling daddy walking those tenths and dealing the blues!

  • Smooooooth as buttermilk!!!

  • Did you all know that he switched from guitar to piano due to a gunshot wound to his hand. He's awesome. Thanks for the upload.

  • I love the way he uses the 7ths

  • @tbengal55 I know it's so fat sounding and just plain sexy!!!

  • @maddermofo check out the "fat" sound by playing 10ths in the left hand eg C up to octave E if you canstretch that far. If not flip down fro 10 to ROOT in a sort of "and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4

  • Eargasm!

  • He gets me in my gut like no one else.

  • does this sound very similar to sporting life blues? tht's what it sounds like from my ears...

  • wonderfull!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Intensity, focus, feeling and something I can't pick out in words - perhaps divine? I don't know - but You got it Dr. John. Keep doing your stuff, cheers J.

  • the doctor is in the house

  • the best player i know! the advice he gave me was to listen to everyone, all players can teach you something

  • @1234ezra1 That's what he told me too, years ago. Lissen and play Huey 'Piano' Smith, Professor Longhair, James Booker, Fats Domino, he said. I nodded, but thought and kept thinking all the years after, 'Why would I try their stuff when I like yours better? Besides: you've listened to all of them and all that is concluded in your style'. I did listen to all the pianists I could find, but kept practicing Dr. John. Maybe it's stubborn, I dunno, but it never got dull!

  • Fucking AWESOME!!!! I would give my left hand to play like that---wait.....

  • @stratguy1688 Yeah and I would give my right arm to be ambidextrious.

  • but then you wouldn't be able to play like him anyway... :-)

  • how does his left hand stretch sooo much?!!

  • @adamfishmouth

Its really hard indeed... you have to focus on playing on the tips of every key, reallllly on the tips. Even I have pretty large hands but it's hard as hell...

  • @adamfishmouth Practice. Keep stretching and trying. It hurts at first, but the gospel sound you get from it. Wow. It's like playing an orchestra with your left hand!

  • What a JOY, to hear your rich piano chords and embellishments!

  • Absolutely gorgeous! I wish I could play like that. One day, in my dreams!

  • All you need is a Dr's degree in physics to play like DJ ! LOL~

  • Got these dvd's. Wish the accompanying transcriptions were more fully realised. Love to get hold of 'such a night' just the way he plays it in the 1981 live version posted by 'undercoverblackman' on here

  • Cooool...Does he quite reach them together. looks like he spreads them a fraction. i got huge hands and can play 11ths if i want. Lucky me!!!!

  • Great Blues !

    *****

  • I wish my hands were that big. His left hand is great.

  • This is a great video! so clear!

Dr. John is a great musician!

I can't wait to see him live at the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival this summer!

  • Dr. John is the best, this is an awesome vid. Thanks for posting.

  • This man gets way, way down in the blues.

  • jesus christ 10th hand stretches. !!

  • What a fantastic player! Saw him live in 2004; nowadays he seems to be into funk music.

  • sic as fcuk! nice!

  • amazing i love this song. thanks for uploading! please can you put some more of Dr John up! Adam

  • No problem. I've uploaded the best of his DVD's. The only chapters I didn't upload were the ones where he was breaking the tunes down and stuff
