  • Don't you have an engine block heater? It could be the injection pump needing adjustment.

  • FUCK YEAH! I LIKE YOUR VIDEO!!!!!! YOUR THE MAN!!!! YEEEEAH

    DISCOBOY..... BABOM

  • Wymien sobie swiece żarowe cepie...

  • you have burned glow plugs i have the same problem, change 2 of the glow plugs and problem's gone

  • Hi!! Since this is my most watched movie on the Tube I decided I'd let you in on a status update.

The Escort is still running :) I've driven it ~20000/30000 miles/kilometres since 2008, and it's still running, much thanks to the help from this community :) thank you all.

In the end it was the return cables from the injectors that were the biggest problem. Old cars often has this problem. Good news is: a VERY easy fix :D drag off the old and replace. $5 upgrade :) much better now!

  • is that the european escort in north america?

  • turn your lights off!

  • u need tensioner puley and your belts replaced.also check the glowplugs.the squeek is from a loose belt/pulley.

  • Your injectors are fucked

and mexicodriver is right, buy a GTI!!

  • buy an escort GTi :)

  • Change glow plugs!

  • Well, it finally got going after some determined cranking. I didn't know that they made Ford Escorts with diesel engines. Very interesting! Nice video!

    Ken Palmer

  • Hmmm why didn´t you´ve bought an old Volvo Diesel?

    Your from Norway?

I´m in germany and i am glad to see my Volvo (even at -10°C) starts . No one will hold my Svennsson :D

Have a look at my vids ;-)

  • oh another thing, i noticed the snow on the ground, replace those glow plugs, as when they arent working, this is another symptom for that reason, its misfiring due to the engine being cold! get new glowplugs, 4 of themn!!

  • rub the vaseline in really well to make sure no air can get in, then start the engine and give it a few revs to try and purge the air from the injector lines and fuel filter, if all is well after 5-10 minutes then you've found your problem, though double check, shut down engine then come back a few hours later when its cold and try it again! goo luck!

  • Hi! I tried the vaseline tip, and I think it worked a little bit. But I've heard from mechanics that a lot of these 90's Escorts, Sierras and Mondeos has problems in the motor (can't remember the part name in English right now).

And on such an old car I guess the best thing is to drive it till the rust demon eats it up anyway :)

I've changed the brakes on the back wheels by the way. Man I'll never go down that shadowy path again ;)

I'll try changing the glow plugs next.

  • It sounds more like an air problem, because if you had one or more glow plugs not working, it would take ages of cranking the motor until it would start to catch, and a lot of white smoke would be pouring out of the exhaust smelling sweetly of diesel. however when it does fire up it will seem to miss and splutter for 10-15 seconds then run fine.

i bet that the quick release clips on the fuel pipe connectors have little rubber o - ring, and they have failed, allowing air to weep in!

  • this engine is commonly known as the Endura DE diesel engine, cast iron block, very heavy engines, tough as hell, hard to hurt! i havent heard any problems with these engines, my brother has the same engine in a fiesta hatchback panel van and has 137,000+ miles on the clock. i work on this engine myself and my experience tells me the only problems with this engine is the belt tensioner (plastic and doesnt want to adjust much) and the sump plug is a bugger to unscrew if its put in to tightly...

  • ...and you can all too easily round off the nut trying to take it off, and that they can munch through engine mounts if constantly thrashed.

  • Try with new glowplugs!

  • try to replace fuel conduites to a transparent ones, maybe it's sucking air via unsealed fuel distribution system.

  • Diesel Pump !!

  • but why do you have the lights ON when you are trying to start it?... you will kill the car battery ;o

  • in Norway you are required to have your lights on at all times, but I think the battery is quite new, so that's OK (at least for now).

  • obviously the alternater belt is loose so tighten that then the battery will keep its charge glowplugs are supect but why is it so smokey? also it sounds very stumbly have you tried pressing that primer that sits under the bonnet it could be that the seals have deteriorated and may be suching in air thats what my diesel was doing replaced it and ran as good as new let me no how you go

  • Hi and thanks for the tip. I've tightened the alternator belt so the battery system is working fine. Can you help me with the location of the primer? -thanks :)

  • there is no 'primer' it sucks its own fuel from the tank, you just have to keep cranking and it will prime itself, which is what you're doing every time you start the car, the white smoke is air in the fuel system, my bet is the hose connections on the fuel filter whick you changed, those quick pushfit connections done by ford do fail and if disturbed they let in air, try smearing vaseline ( a good dollop) of it around the connectors on top of the fuel filter.....

  • what u need to do is tighten up the fan belt because if it is loose it will sceck just like yours

  • lol

  • wish there were more diesel cars in the US, Did Ford make there own diesel for that car??

  • You asked the question about the ford diesel engine and if they made it themselves. They do yes, ford UK used to make two types of Passenger Vehicle diesel engines. The 1.6 D and 1.8 TD version. The earlier 1600 diesel was dropped in 1989 and replaced with the 1.8 TD version in 70 and 90 bhp guise.

  • sounds to me like the idle speed is to low. on the throttle housing is a screw which you can adjust with a spanner. also can i recommed millers oil which will clean all you fuel system it works wounders for starting problems.

  • Thanks! I boosted the idle speed a little, and now it's a little easier to start. But still unstable. I will try out Millers oil when I have the chance :)

  • nye glødeplugga e nok trikset japp

  • get new glowplugs. that should help.
