  • this was one of the best movies i ever watched!

  • I never thought a scene about a guy solving a rubik's cube could be so suspenseful... this movie rules!

  • I would love to meet Will Smith..... He rox...!

  • 0:17 anyone noticed the driver has a cube on his hand?

  • Like a Boss

  • This is also how Will got into Princeton in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

  • fui o 90000!

  • This is how I get jobs too! XD

  • dont never people tell you that you cant do it!

  • Hehe I love the 'Raging Bull' ad on the taxi board!

  • Great Movie.

  • They should have taught him how to do finger tricks.

  • the funny thing is will smith can actually do it :)

  • I can also do the cue thank you dan brown

  • one person cant solve the cube

  • @michael1234252 I am one person and i can. theory busted.

  • @gdaulby i was making a joke about the dislike bar

  • @michael1234252 i was also joking

  • @gdaulby lol

  • It was no need for you to dislike this video.

  • If this was in the 80s, should he not be using Waterman or another Corners First method rather than Fridrich/LBL? :p

  • Was the Rubicks Cube serouisly this popular when it came out

  • @FienStudios yea

  • To all you people saying you can solve this faster - that's not the point. This scene takes place in 1981, a year after the cubes arrived in New York toy stores. Yes, he is employing the beginner's most common method to solve the cube, but the idea being conveyed is that he can solve one based off intuition, and not by merely memorizing a set of algorithms (as all of you are). This intuition is meant to be indicative of his intelligence and - perhaps - his ability to succeed on the Street.

  • @dwighthowardd Brilliantly said! Thank you! Such and inspirational scene. One of my favorite movies ever made. I cry every time at the end, because no matter what, if you want something bad enough, you can achieve it.

  • Comment removed

  • @dwighthowardd as all of you are?? I solved this thing out by myself through trial and error

  • @GerryTuohyNz Congratulations! Want a cookie?

  • @dwighthowardd How long was that cab ride?

  • Comment removed

  • @dwighthowardd The method he used consists of algorithms....

  • @iamUSAn50 Please reread: Yes, he is employing the beginner's most common method to solve the cube, but *the idea being conveyed* is that he can solve one based off intuition, and not by merely memorizing a set of algorithms.

  • @dwighthowardd all those algorithms we memorise, betcha Will Smith wrote them.

  • "No you can't." "Yes I can." : ))

  • there's always that ONE dick who dislikes a scene as great as this from a movie as epic as that...

  • @OGenZo6895 hahaha thats true *NOTE* i liked the videoo☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☻☻☻☻☻☻☻

  • i got it in 35 seconds, damn im slow

  • @here2there4life Practice, buddy :]

  • this is the stupidest thing i've seen today.

  • i used pogobat's method ftw !

  • @IHSparkour too bad its fridrichs method haha

  • i disliked. this is totally bullshit.

  • @Juvazi You never solved a Rubik's cude! WOO WOO I'M SO FUNNY

  • @Juvazi then why did you watch it in the first place

  • Thumbs up for the Fridrich Method.

  • i dont know y but this scene is flawless

  • does he says "swibble" WTF surely he means "swivel"

  • @angryafghan He did say swivel retard.

  • @KillerBod101 Not a retard, just not 100% familiar with American English fucktard

  • @angryafghan well if your not 100% familiar with english, why are you saying he said it wrong?

  • @KillerBod101 I said "American English" it did not sound right to me, I played it back, he does not pronouce it correctly because he's talking like some fool from the ghetto whilst trying to portray an intelligent man

  • Smith can actually solve the 3x3, not in record time or anything but on TV under pressure: watch?v=gUncHGvBuks

  • lbl ftw

  • the taxi driver should give him a free cab for that

  • My sister taught me when I was 7!!!! I'm 44 in September! I bought a cube the other month! I had to force my brain to remember the moves but in the end I remembered after all these years!

  • Supposedly he learned how to do this just for this scene

  • @mindylinky

he learned way before. He did it on fresh prince in 93.

  • I learned to solve it my own way, but it took me 4 months! XD

  • This scene bugs me. There is no way you could work out the algorithms that fast. And can we all stop comparing how fast we can complete a rubik's cube? None of us hold the damn record.

  • @KatsOnFirex

Does.. European Record holder is Erik Akkersdijk, World Record is hold by Feliks Zemdegs..

Dont talk if you don't know what are you talking about.

  • @cuberkreedz Read my comment properly and learn to speak English.

  • @KatsOnFirex Lol don't try and put cubercreedz down just because he knows what he is talking about, you said that "there is no way you could work out the algorithms that fast". Well we can work out algs in about a second. Go ahead, let your internetego run riot!

  • @Billyreaperrain What you're saying and what he said have literally no connection whatsoever. Yes, WE could, but this dude has no experience with algorithms whatsoever. This would make him a motherfucking prodigy.

  • @Billyreaperrain lol, sorry dude, cant believe i was that out of order when i posted that comment! I was obviously pissed off about something hah. I guess I should have taken into account the fact that I have never seen this movie!! Is it any good? Isnt that the point that they are trying to make? that he is some kind of mind freak?

  • @Billyreaperrain Well it's basically a life story of the character and he is a genius.

  • @KatsOnFirex Agreed. Unfortunately, most people have never actually learned a beginner's method for solving the cube, let alone trained in more advanced methods to hit time goals. In pop culture the mythical Rubik's Cube is just something you supposedly figure out on your own if you're "smart," which is why American cinema fabricates this scene in Gardner's life.

  • @U2met86 Amen to that. You speak only the truth, my friend.

  • i can do it in about 4 mins but i only just learned the algorithms yesterday

  • Lol. The taxi driver has a Rubick's cube in his hand. XD

  • I GOT 1:13 ON IT :)

  • wow this is easy i could do it for 30 sec.

  • my record is 10 minutes, but i use algorithms so it doesnt really count -.- ;)

  • @convictPKlol 10 minutes is hella slow mate. Everybody uses algorithms, so yes it DOES count.

  • @danfrost313 yeah if you look i left that comment like 2 months ago, im down to about 50 seconds now :) but my rubiks cube is the shitty original one

  • @convictPKlol Ah, rightio :) Order a better cube from cubesmoth or cubes4you :)

  • @danfrost313 ordered a dayan guhong speed cube from speed cube shop, for the corner cuts :)

  • @convictPKlol Good choice! My new DiY cube is on its way, Type E :P

  • the background score perfectly complements the scene...actually, throughout the movie, the score is excellent

  • my record is a minute and a half :D

  • my record is a minute and a half

  • beast mode

  • he solves one in fresh prince too

  • @danwalsh92 Yeah when he did the interview to go to Princeton.

  • when the taxi draver said $17.10, I thought he was keeping track of the time it took for him to solve it. :) lol

  • If you guys wanna learn how to solve the rubik's cube easily, then go look up How to solve the rubik's cube pogobat. Go to the improved tutorial.

  • My record is 5 minutes... :(

  • I really love the part at :28 where the guy says "Well, we can drive around all day, because I don't believe you can do this." and will says "Yeah i can.." then "Uh-uh no you can't" and will just keeps saying yes i can. This is a very powerful and strong scene to me.

  • After watching this, I realized he solves it the same way I learned how to. But I figured out how to do it from a website, in reality he learned how to do this on his own. I cant imagine figuring out how to do this from scratch. Just nuts.

  • Wow. I miss cubing.. : (

  • i just realized the cab driver was trying to solve a rubiks cube too

  • learn the algarithms and you can solve any rubix cube in under 10 minutes..

  • Intense situation XD

  • @jiriya2 yup

  • @ianography LBL

  • memorable scene... btw,, saya bisa ngalahkan will smith kalo cara maenya begini.. :p

  • Same exact scene from Fresh Prince with the guy from Princeton interviewing Will.

  • urgh i hate the other guy in the cab coz after he gets out he leaves Will Smiths character to pay for the fare- and we all know hes homeless so thats like all the money ne had and he has to walk the rest of the way home - what an ass!

but go Will Smiths character, i still cant solve a Rubix cube and it just goes to show determination gets you places : )

  • in my personal opinion this scene signifys that even if you havent had the best education possible, if you still have the knowledge and the capabilities, NEVER give up on your dreams if you KNOW your capable of achieving them, feel free to correct me if im dead wrong (:

  • By today's standards yes I guess I was homeless. But I never thought that I was. It turns out years later I found out what the criteria was and yes I guess it was me. As far as the cube I can take it apart and put it back together in 5 minutes. Yes it was an inspirational movie. I liked the part when he told his kid to never let anyone tell him he can't do something. Determination and desire is everything. Like The Rocky speech. If you want what you are worth go get what you are worth.

  • he uses the same paterns as i do:) awesome awesome

  • Those rubik's cube studio's are hard to get...

  • my record's 17 seconds, if you don't believe me I solve it using the fridrich method: cross, f2l, oll, pll. oll I learned over 60 algs and pll I learned around 25. f2l and cross is intuitive.

  • @televisionczar

FYI: There's only 57 OLL algs, and 21 PLL algs, if you know more, it doesn't make a difference :P

  • @oldwhatshisface

Yes, knowing more does make a difference.

  • The only way I can solve it is by picking off the coulors and putting them back up xD

  • @Zinloos1 lol thats the only way i know, i suck at it big time

  • my record is 2 hours

  • my record is about 5 minutes

  • and that's all the guy can say at the end haha....."Good Job...."

  • This is one of the most touching and one of the best movies I've seen, I'd want anyone to watch this, so you'll know how it feels to be homeless, like a lot of people, cause I was homeless once.

  • Hey, I solve it exactly the way he has done it in the movie : D

  • Wow.... Best scene....

  • fredrich

    rofl

  • @gitar1hero1qaz Fridrich*

  • this is my favorite scene of the movie. his(will smith) fastest time is 55 seconds

  • rubiks cube is easy..i'm bringing one of these to my next job interview.. 0.56 lol!

  • My best time is 68 seconds. xD

  • wow hes actually solving it it isnt just some gay cut scene

  • what cube was that? im guessing its a rubik's stuido

  • "Good job" I really like that word. ;D

  • @unrealless which one?

  • my best time is 14 seconds

  • he solves it so slowly!

  • Comment removed

  • ok so people solved the rubix cube in like 34 seconds when it was first made right? dude back then just solving the cube alone was miraculous

  • This movie is based on the timeline, on when the cube was first released..it puzzled so many people and him doing what he did, as quick as he did back then considering it was his first time touching the cube, was..amazing. Not to mention back then you can't youtube on how to solve them damn thing. All he did was THINK.

  • I like how he's solving it with such a serious face. I takes little thinking effort actually. It's more memory and hand-eye coordination. anyone is capable of doing this in less than 20 seconds, even will smith, if he were to practice and use a quicker method.

  • He didn't use the form in the movie. I bet he can do it faster in rl

  • about a week ago i remebered this scene out of the blue and that's when i began my rubik's journey lol

  • lol, cant believe tyson taught will the hard way. lol

just do LBL, and for the last, do edges, then corner perm, then corner orien

  • I had to do this to get my job and all I did was peel off the stickers.

  • whats your job?

  • Rubicks cube quality control.

  • LBL beginners method. =D

  • love this scene! But I feel sorry for him when he doesn't have enough money to pay the taxi dude...

  • Are you serious or are you joking because last time i checked, Whenever i watch a movie there is probably one stupid black guy with a gun and the rest are white guys with lazerbeams and shit.

  • "with laZerbeams and shit" well that clearly shows how you perceive movies and how seriously your observation should be taken. Go look anywhere fool, every ad, every movie, every show, there's always just one white guy with a majority of other non white people, all of them inaccurate representations of their ethnicity.

  • believe whatever the hell you want but you can't base people on 4 words in this case with laZerbeams and shit but still you don't see me judging you but just to be fair, i think ill judge you. You're probably one of those people who thinks greater of him/herself. you go around on youtube and when you find a stupid comment decide to try and make funny of or call them names, and yet you are probably worse then any name you can think of

  • seriously just have fun on youtube, don't try and cuss people out or try and "find a flaw in their logic" unless thats what you call fun, then by all means go ahead. youtube isn't always a perfect place and most people go on youtube and just cuss out random people for fun. its stupid, and they probably have no life but heck, who cares. having fun isn't illegal so go ahead have some fun, but don't me trying to correct every persons little mistake

  • @stukadiving typical racist bullshit whenever a black person appears on a video in youtube.

  • duing the lbl i have a 57.13. duing the speedsolve way, i have a 17.47

  • You're an arrogant incompetent piece of shit.

  • I was jusst saying, sorry if i offended you but there are a ton of people out there who can beat me

  • Never apologize to anyone on youtube.

    ^_^ -:)

  • ill try

  • 1:50 seconds is my fastest. its about as fast as will smiths in this movie.

  • 21.43 noobs

  • My best is 1:06 better than everyone I know

  • FUCK YOU.

  • I meant I'm better than anyone that I know

  • my best is 27.36 seconds :P

haha u can see the old algarythems like second layer haha begginers method

  • Will Smith is brilliant. What an asshole the other guy is. Not paying for the ride.

  • lol.. when i saw that movie, i think he is really amazing, but now i can solve it under 30 sec ^o^ but, this is remind me with my old old algorithm when he switch 3 edges in the last 20 sec of this video =D

  • Wow I feel like a noob. I solve it from the bottom up.

  • @EuclidianProposition Me too, but don't feel like a noob because of that 'cause I don't wanna be seen as a noob xD

  • My record is 3 days lol

  • @kaniXD 0.1 sec for me beat that!

  • @kaniXD mine is errrr.. never :p

  • @kaniXD DAAMN MINES 3 years

  • @kaniXD i can do it for 10 minutes...

  • my personal best is 26.38!!!

  • im soo slow. my PB is 33.41 =(

  • wow....my best is 26's to..

  • Comment removed

  • bullshit

  • i never knew about the center piece thing dang i always wanted to no secrets :)

  • my record is 18.59

  • my record is 3:15 man im sooo sloww =(

im going to learn fridrich it will probably help

  • just keep practicing!!!

  • my record is 51 seconds :)

  • was there a specific point to that scene? like, did he have to solve it for some reason?

  • he was trying to network with the guy but the guy was too busy focusing on the rubik's cube. to get the attention back to him he says he can solve it and the guy says prove it

  • It's also symbolizing Will Smith's character's determination to accomplish what he puts his mind up to. The movie takes place in the early 80's, which was when the Rubick's cube was popular and very few people could solve it.
